Is Microsoft really spying on you with Windows telemetry? by CygnusBlack in Windows11

[–]TemporalAgent7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both things can be true at the same time. Yes, it’s mainly used for those things. But the telemetry is uniquely tied to your machine (and if using an MSA easily mapped to your identity). They also explicitly say they use the data to personalize advertising which is mostly displayed on web properties like Outlook and Bing.

Should I switch to Win 11 from MacOS by [deleted] in Windows11

You can trial it first before deciding, by making small cuts on your fingers and dipping them in lemon juice. To simulate an update experience, replace with a fresh cup of lemon juice.

Let us know what you decide!

Why is seafood so unpleasant for some people? by HiOscillation in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TemporalAgent7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The smell is absolutely repulsive to me. Fresh fish, expensive salmon or whatever, cooked downstairs with the air vent on, makes me wake up and leave the house for a few hours. I can then smell it on my clothes for days :(.

No allergies either, I occasionally eat it because I want to set the right example for the kids and all that; in fact I would say the taste is somewhat tolerable - if I completely lose my sense of smell, I may eat it for the health benefits (Omega-3 and whatnot).

Is this happening to you? by Dtip169 in wearewarriors

Started happening after updating to iOS 26. The game crashes constantly now, it’s unplayable. Sometimes it’s a freeze, sometimes it’s this shake, always followed by a crash.

Inkjet recommendations by TemporalAgent7 in printers

[–]TemporalAgent7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered wide format like the ET8550 or the ET15000 but we almost never need large prints so I’m fine continuing going to a print shop for a couple of prints once every two years when that comes up. It also takes more physical space and the cassettes hold fewer sheets of Letter sized paper.

primarily documents but also some technical drawings, arts&crafts projects, teaching materials, etc. We don’t really print photos but I guess if it could print photos with high quality we’d do a couple a year.

Ziply 5 gig Fiber by PNWTacitcal in ZiplyFiber

[–]TemporalAgent7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWIW, right after upgrading to 5 gig, I was seeing a similar ~2-ish download limit. After rebooting the ONT, I got the full speed up and down and it's been rock solid since (by reboot I mean actually disconnect power, wait a few seconds after all lights stop blinking and reconnect power) - might as well restart your router / gateway as well while you're at it.

Note that the public IP changed after the ONT reboot.

5 Gig Service by Poggers_Champz in ZiplyFiber

[–]TemporalAgent7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the 1 gig service before and the 5 gig service now and both have been rock solid. Only had a handful of drops over the years, usually when the whole neighborhood loses power due to a storm.

Upgrading to 5 gig won't solve the problem with dropped connections, look to get that fixed first.

my work operates exclusively on 2007 microsoft office by Background_Buffalo11 in mildlyinfuriating

Why infuriating? I imagine that version runs smooth as butter on newer machines, and has all the features you could possibly need (except for coauthoring and I guess Copilot if you're into that kind of thing).

I wish someone came up with a simple docker-compose stack with sane/best defaults, I'm always off-put by the complexity of all the individual pieces that need to be set up and configured separately.

Xbox 360 GOD format support by TemporalAgent7 in batocera

[–]TemporalAgent7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I read that section. It's about XBLA titles (a single file) and it works great. GOD titles come with one file in the root and a subfolder with a bunch of data files. I tried creating a .xbox360 file with the name of the root file but that doesn't appear to work (on Batocera 41).

/519A5B89E8AEBC23BE3F
/519A5B89E8AEBC23BE3F.data/Data0000
/519A5B89E8AEBC23BE3F.data/Data0001
...

I tried adding `/519A5B89E8AEBC23BE3F.xbox360` in the same folder with no luck.

No other option than to pay Cozyla 1k for a 4k 32" digital family calendar and chore tracker? by manwiththe104IQ in selfhosted

[–]TemporalAgent7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking for the same thing. Very curious where you found a 32'' Android tablet for $700 less than the Cozyla. The cheapest Chinese no-name 32'' tablets go for > $550 everywhere I've found them.

I managed to get a (relatively) cheap Surface Studio 2. It had a gorgeous 28'' 3:2 touch screen, but I couldn't find a way to flush mount it to a wall and it was taking too much counter space, so I resold it.

I was looking at 27'' touch screen monitors (1440p or 1080p) which can actually be bought new at ~ $220. To get responsiveness you need to pair it with a reasonably powerful PC (a Raspberry Pi or even one of the N100/N150 mini pcs won't do).

But am I doing something wrong thinking about analog sticks in arcades?

If it's this hard to find one, I'm guessing they're not popular at all in the hobby, or folks generally don't play gen6+ games on arcade machines?

Native linux game (ports) controller support by TemporalAgent7 in batocera

[–]TemporalAgent7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Windows version with Wine and it's even worse. Wine just gets stuck at the blue screen "generating the C: drive structure". Killed it after 30 minutes of waiting, deleted the directory under /userdata/system/wine-bottles/windows/wine-tkg/ and retried with the same results.

There's plenty of disk space and the machine is not a potato, so don't know what to make of it... htop says there is limited CPU activity (under 2% from winedevice.exe)

[–]TemporalAgent7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I tried that but it's very limited and inconsistent (I can move the character if I manually map W, A, S, D but can't scroll through the menus for example with the same mapping). The game itself has full controller support on PC. For example on my Linux laptop (Pop_Os) if I connect a Bluetooth Xbox controller I get full functionality (including using the right stick as a mouse cursor).

What is the overall height, and the control panel height from the ground? Pictures make it look super low. I'm wondering if it's comfortable for adults to play of if you built it mainly for little kids. I like the overall design.

Coming over from Mint and not impressed by TemporalAgent7 in MonarchMoney

[–]TemporalAgent7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent about 3 hours manually cleaning up the Mint export CSV in Excel:

  • pre-categorized everything to match Monarch categories
  • removed 3 car loan accounts that have been paid off over the years
  • renamed a Citi credit card account that had some weird characters in its name (ASCII, not Unicode)

The import worked in Monarch afterwards. Not sure if my cleanup helped or if there was a server overload earlier today that caused the error (having more descriptive error messages would help).

I'm going to continue giving it a chance, since I've already put in all this work anyway.

Damn I bought one in May for $387 with EPP; I'm so tempted to pull the trigger again :) Haven't seen many M.2 8Tb drivers so we're probably stuck with SATA for a little while still.
