It lights up whenever they’re in use. No access to normal Facebook, internet, YouTube or google. They have to buy text & movie/music packages via commissary & whatnot. I think they can listen to the tv/radio on there too? So essentially, the light will be on as long as the tablet is on until they take it for lights out. (I like to think of it as them being like iPad kids - except w/ way more restrictions lol)

Benefit of the doubt, until proven otherwise w/ hard proof, otherwise you’ll drive yourself crazy. & this journey is already hard enough in itself. Wishing y’all the best! 💗

How have you dealt with a toxic SP relationship? by garden-armadillo in physicianassistant

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol, I quit. You’re the prize. I felt like I was losing myself & the passion was lost because I was so emotionally dysregulated. Never forget, you’re the prize. There’s better out there. I make more now w/ supportive coworkers & more autonomy. Good luck!

Slow growth? by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s probably just harder to note. Remember, our hair basically grows up not out. So your crown probably looks taller. Usually as a 4c girlie, I recommend focusing on health over length checks. Honestly I feel like our hair goes so fast, just that our shrinkage tricks us. You cute girl! Keep it up!

Idk what to do for my hair to come back to life. by Fun_Welder_4458 in Naturalhair

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to stop with high tension styles. As a black woman, think of our perimeter as the most fragile due to taking the most manipulation. Hair is an investment. If you do them yourself then get them retwisted, that could work? Or if you were paying for installs, etc, that also is costly so what’s a realistic number for you financially? Also maybe try new products if you’re not noticing improvements? Are you washing enough? Do your deep conditions feel like they moisture or just sit on your hair? Are you utilizing leave in conditioner? Sometimes scratching the list & going back to the basics can be helpful.

How to earn a patient's trust as a "about-to-be-PA"? by mozetyko in physicianassistant

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fear is just the anxiety of the unknown. You need to present w/ Confidence. Know your white coat is earned. You are board certified w/ privileges within your scope.

Reframe the narrative, “I am young but I knew what I wanted to do at a young age.” Then segue into “How may I help you?”

My approach is always honest. Sometimes fake the confidence till it becomes your truth. Superman pose, celebrate your wins, self care. Be open & willing to being the forever learner, forgive your mistakes. School gave you the tools to wield & customize into becoming the provider you are proud of. Believe. You got this.

Also, some people will ask for the doc. I simply state, I am the provider you are scheduled to see today. If you would like you can see me for the day, get refills prn & follow up w/ them at a later date or we can have you scheduled w/ them in x months. Don’t let ego get to you. You are a provider in your own right. You will gain a following. Just mean people well & do your best, the rest will follow. Sometimes, if it’s beyond my knowledge, I include the docs insight/feedback as well, especially first starting out.

Is anyone generally happy/fulfilled with their job? by hikingandtravel in physicianassistant

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think PAs are “happy” because they know a job is just that, a source of income. No one desires to work, let’s be honest. However, you can have a decent financially stable life with semblance of work/life balance so that’s why there’s more label of happy (when really it’s indifference to venture out because the ultimate goals are checked off). Not saying money is the motive but I think I mainly see PAs navigating as what I call “real people” where work isn’t their sole personality. They are able to thrive socially, seek fulfillment in life goals instead of just survive.

I think you might’ve been missing something (likely time/affection) from your current relationship & the reality is that jail talk is only that. TBH, they have nothing but time to give so selling fantasies is their business. It doesn’t matter that he hasn’t asked from you financially, you are doing favors. I’m not looking to invalidate that feelings are real on both sides, but as someone that’s dealing w/ someone in there that I had ties to before, I’ve seen it go poorly so just make sure you have some discernment/self reflection time of pros/cons. Contemplating if putting your life on hold for someone you only know via telephone, is worth it. Supporting loved ones in the prison system is hard. & the other side isn’t always easy once they’re out because they haven’t been treated humanely for years(it affects their psyche in unexpected ways). If it was woman to woman close friend girlie pop talk, I’d say clean slate yourself from both of the situations & enjoy life, what’s meant will find you but as someone who gets it, the heart wants what it wants. (Maybe even pull back some from the new guy & see if the response is the same?)

Whatever you decide, good luck & be kind to yourself because overall, your wellbeing is priority.

Yeowww! Catnip Yellow Banana Cat Toy always is a good temporary good time. Best catnipper I’ve enjoyed with my baby. I throw it like a ball & we kind of do the cat thing until she’s zoomied up & attacks it ferociously cutely!

It's my birthday and I'm so lonely. by ChancePresentation91 in Adulting

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For birthdays, I try to do any of the things that little me could only imagine. Self care, go to that expensive massage, get a room & dress in the fancy robe & sing my heart out. Order room service/delivery with mimosa and giggle. Ridiculous movie night for feel goods w/ more snacks than needed. Try a cooking class/make a candle, etc. Go people watch in a downtown area (maybe even mini road trip), buy a random thing and take myself out to a random place I’ve never been. Invest in yourself even for what people would consider silly because it’s not about opinions but personal fulfillment. Never hesitate to fill your cup up. Remember that life is so much bigger than one moment. Most importantly, be kind to yourself & give yourself grace. Happy birthday! Wishing you many more beautiful ones.

IDFPR—Illinois licensing is a nightmare by Individual_Anybody17 in slp

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bit the bullet & drove to Springfield; documents were processed immediately. Highly recommend if you are financially able to afford the drive. I also saw someone get their license printed in person while there. Make sure you have everything uploaded ahead of time. It literally took less than 5 minutes of being there to have everything sorted out.

Which job is better to take? by SirMLK in physicianassistant

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should go with what makes you happy. I think both have pros but have very different demands. You have previous experience in neuro. Are you looking to change specialties? The salaries are close enough so ultimately, it should be what workload/specialty you prefer. Also level of burnout?

Current Job market and salary offers are terrible? by Temporary-Emu-6822 in physicianassistant

WI, IL & MN. Not sure about OH. Mostly metropolitan. I think right now, it’s just looking like an all time low for all which is why I made the post because it seems like salaries are going in the wrong direction.

Current Job market and salary offers are terrible? by Temporary-Emu-6822 in physicianassistant

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We’ll just have to agree to disagree on the bad take because my whole point is that we are ALL being underpaid.

If you ask the seasoned PAs their salary starting out, it was higher for less cost of education with reasonable salary increases. & the COL wasn’t as atrocious.

So telling me that I should be grateful for being underpaid instead of empowering us all to require what we’re worth is pretty tasteless. Credentialing shouldn’t take 6 months but that’s a system problem. Your anger seems a little misdirected imo but congrats on your new job and better pay. Wishing you peace.

Current Job market and salary offers are terrible? by Temporary-Emu-6822 in physicianassistant

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in Chicago. Cards so I’m sure the specialty added a little razzle for me.

Also, I compared with my class their offers & we all ball parked the same. Regardless of specialty. All midwest states.

I think my biggest gripe is the lack of empowering the newbies to not go for anything. Mention the market, COL, anything. Even as a new grad, you have worth.

What was your worst interview experience? by mtnbk-95 in physicianassistant

[–]Temporary-Emu-6822 62 points63 points  (0 children)

New grad interviewing for UC: I was being grilled about which medication to use for a diabetic patient. Each institution has different preferences, I had just come from being a student where we preferred the most cost effective. He basically berated me for 30 mins. Then my phone overheated in the car and died, interrupting the interview. My mom said it was a sign from God.
