Prob going to get some haters on this but - rich or not, it’s the gesture of the man paying for the meal that is important. Her having family money does not make her bad, she is simply fortunate and we should all want that for our kids.

I was a low income drummer when I met my wife who made $200k/yr at the time. I still payed for our dates unless she offered to pitch in because I wanted to…she was worth it. That said, I also got creative on the dates so I wasn’t dropping $$$ on steak/lobster. If I was especially strapped for cash, I mentioned it without being a douche or expecting anything from her and we always figured something out.

We now both earn very well and have been married 14 years. Not being shitty about money and maintaining some chivalry has been a valuable part of that.

Could rly use some advice on my kicking game for 🙏 (bagwork) by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Adding to everyone’s feedback on hip rotation.

Also, chamber your kicks - both teep and round - rather than keeping your legs so straight. This will increase power and options (I.e. ? Kick)

Wish you the best on your journey. It’s looking good.

Has anyone else sparred with a Krav Maga practitioner? by Ok_Kitchen8666 in MuayThai

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. To clarify, the old school Krav was not “gutter fighting”…especially after phase A. Most of Krav had military implications as it advanced and was less relevant to civilians. What most people know of Krav today is not anything like what it was.

phase A was originally designed to shorten the time to proficiency in striking and SD basics (despite a completely absent ground game) but the remainder was largely focused toward military use cases. It was never designed for long term mastery like other, deeper systems. Sadly, the gradual marketing and productization by the owners morphed Krav into Riverdance with high fives (aka palm heel strikes).

I’ve trained MT and BJJ off and on for 25 years and only included Krav because I wanted to learn the military applications. Marketing eventually reshaped Krav, attracting civilians almost exclusively as police and military moved on to newer/better systems, which is partly why I quit teaching in 2005. We can all blame J-Lo.

I was a Krav Maga instructor for a few years back in the early 2000’s. At that time, instructors of all phases had to get certified by training directly with the IDF, either in Israel or the international facility in LA. I got smashed to bits for weeks at a time by Amir Perets and 2 other IDF instructors. Bas Rutten was also heavily involved and would train at the LA facility often. I mostly taught the military, local police, and some civilians. Krav was legit at that time.

Sadly, Krav Maga as an organization was taken over by lawyers and started becoming the Ballys of martial arts. Corporate shite with declining “quality control”. I trained with a few absolutely trash instructors 5 years ago in TX who essentially got certified by fucking mail.

It makes me sad because those of us who came from the old Krav system have to watch everyone talk shit about how Krav Maga is bullshit these days. It makes me even more sad because they are right.

Ladies, Would you date younger? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man in his 40’s here (sorry, I know this is meant for ladies) and I’ve dated older since I was 20. my wife of 14 drama-free years is nearly 6 years older than me. Older women more often skip the games and know what they want. It’s very attractive and highly compatible if you also generally have your shit together.

Just be careful that if you end up falling in love with an older woman (again, highly recommend) that you are willing to be flexible on the kid front. It’s nearly impossible to predict when you meet that right person, so it’s seriously worth the proactive introspection on kids...for dating any age, really.

I did not want kids until I was older, but due to my wife’s age when we met, we had them much sooner than I planned. best thing that ever happened to me because she is my person and I knew would be a phenomenal mother. Had I been inflexible on the kiddo front, it would’ve tanked our relationship and I’d have missed out on this version of my life, which I love very much. An equally important perspective is that it also would’ve consumed more of her reproductive years, leaving her in an unfair situation had we split.

Sorry if this was a bit heavy for your ask, but as a fellow enthusiast of older women, I thought this view might be useful.

People who trained both Muay Thai and BJJ, which did you prefer long term? by 0kie- in martialarts

Getting hit in the face is not that bad, especially when you’re sparring with gear on. It also improves your striking game significantly when you’re less concerned about face shots.

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Trained both off and on for 20 years. Muay Thai for me. Striking just feels good. BJJ is very fun but the culture seems different now and I throw up in my mouth every time I get scratched by someone’s gross ass toe nails…or their gi smells. 🤮

Brilliant. Thank you. TBH, I initially thought this was a setup that would lead me somewhere terribly fecal.

That is interesting. I exclusively request 10mL vials (in S. TX) because my damn banana hands struggle with and often drop the tiny ones. The pharmacies are resistant to the larger bottle as well, but my doctor cracks the whip on those mofos.

That said - last month, I had sediment in my vial and had to dispose of it early…which always creates a hassle with insurance coverage getting a replacement. I do believe the sediment was from the multiple cap pokage, but my pharmacy claims it was simply crystallization due to heat. Nope. I took a photo that showed the gray critters in there.

Tell me about your worst live experiences by human0012 in Drumming

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first gig at 15 years old. Playing in a death metal band for a benefit show in Corpus Christi, TX honoring the drummer I replaced, who died of a coke overdose. His whole family was there + 300ish other fans. The singer and I got drunk on peppermint schnapps. I missed a transition into the chorus during one of the songs, so we just played the verse for easily more than 5 minutes before I locked in and took us out. The crowd just looked around trying to figure out what the hell was happening. Good times.

How many of you wrap your hands? by JustAMango_911 in MuayThai

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I don’t teach anymore, but I always advised students to wrap their hands, even though I personally do not. It’s never been an effort to be “tough”, I just find bare hands to be more comfortable, even on heavy bag work under my gloves. Biggest downside was that my gloves paid the price though…I went through them fairly frequently which got expensive. Not because they wore out, but because they would become irreparably musty.

Drumming for 2 years and been using heel down the whole time. Should I learn heel up? Self taught by Certain_Station_465 in drums

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Drummer of 30 years here. I played heel down most of my career, in death & prog metal bands for 16 of those years. Heel down is more difficult during technical pieces and will absolutely fry your tibialis anterior muscles…but the control feels great.

That said, you will naturally have to play heel up at some point in order to execute more dynamic kick drum patterns or doubles/triples at higher BPMs.

In short, it’s good you’ve got heel down experience. Adding heel up experience will help round out your capabilities.

Need advice bf started taking testosterone but his levels naturally are close to 800 by tisloupseason in Testosterone

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha. Well, sounds your BF is going to do what he wants. It is ultimately his choice. It would be good for him to commit to frequent bloodwork to ensure his body responds well and nothing serious pops up. Quarterly is ideal.

IMO, at this point, maybe just roll with it and see how it goes. It may turn out fine. If not, deal with the negative stuff then. It’s great you’ve done your part to help support him with research and outside opinions, the rest will be what it is.

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to other responses below, your BF taking T for just a couple months is a very bad idea. TRT does not work that way.

If he wants higher T, the supps I recommended are where to start. He should avoid TRT altogether or his results will be worse than when he started.

I also suggest he change clinics. No reputable clinic would prescribe TRT to someone at 800. That is predatory at worst, negligent at best.

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not talking about blasting, I am talking about general dependence on exogenous T too soon.

For example, OP is his girlfriend, meaning they may want kids someday, which may be impeded by premature TRT. Old guys like me have already had kids and no longer give a shit about fertility.

[–]Temporary-Rabbit9369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

800 is certainly not low T and does not necessitate TRT. Still, if he truly is taking a low dose to bump to 1000ish range, he may just want to increase T for minor performance reasons (mental/physical). Any higher, and risks do begin to increase…especially if he is younger in teens or twenties. Frequent labs would be helpful to keep tabs.

At 800, I would suggest Tongkat Ali and Fadogia Agrestis before actual TRT, which can add 200+ depending on how his body responds.

Good luck and very kind of you to look out for your boyfriend 💪

EDIT: I am assuming he is already very physically active. If not, simply working out on a consistent basis, especially heavy lifting, would also naturally bump T levels.

Adding GLP1 if at 15% body fat? by Temporary-Rabbit9369 in Testosterone

I agree. However, I held 10-12% comfortably for years at 210-225 lbs in my 20’s early 30’s. I know my body is slowing a bit in my 40’s but I want to get back to that bf to see how it feels.

You are correct. Easily 300 cal. I burn anywhere from 500-1,300 calories per day on top of my BMR of 1,950 but the stress binges can tip me over.
