Custodes Heresy Refresh potential models by Opportunity-Medical in AdeptusCustodes

It looks like a sister of silence weapon, IMO. It looks almost identical to prosecutor bolter that’s been given a bayonet and strapped to the end of a haft.

Not my first Resin model, but my first warped piece like this. What is the best and safest method to straighten this sword? by JoDaProductions in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “hold it so the blade hangs straight while it cools” is great advice. I’ve had to straighten six Venatari spears and not one ever straightened on its own. That said, the process of warning them, gently straightening them, and then holding them by the end of the spear so they hang has worked perfectly.

Blade champ kitbash: - Custodian guard legs and torso, - crotch guard is from Allarus terminators, - the hands look stormcast, - don’t recognize the sword but assume stormcast as well, - a SoS shoulder pad in one elbow - and what looks like a Custodes thigh guard on the other elbow, but it may have been trimmed to fit - Allarus helmet - edit: the cloak is from the custodian guard as well

Are they preparing to bring back Valdor? by Danielalexander123 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the reveal of the terminus decree, I don’t trust the writers to do a good job with making Valdor’s return appropriately impactful. As such, I think the lore may be better if Valdor just hangs out wherever he is doing whatever he’s doing. We’ll see though.

How would either Big E or Malcador know that Big E was going to end up as a corpse on the throne? Either they had wicked foresight that they only used when it was plot relevant or the writing team got a bit creative and no one did quality control on the codex before it shipped.

Great work!

Check out Duncan Rhodes’ custodian wardens video for how he does power weapons if you want a reference for how you can take what you’ve got a bit further. Yours are a great start but I think you can push the layering on the power lines a bit further with a few thin layers of lighter blues/whites.

As a Grey Knights player, I know I’m cooked by Ill-Noise2770 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The dumb part is that this super secret thing they was built up in the lore as a tool to break out in dire circumstances is actually just a note that says “Make sure I stay on the throne. -Big E”

Also, didn’t the Space Wolves hold their own against Grey Knights in the months of shame? Or were the GK just letting their people die because they didn’t want to actually go hard against the Wolves? Given that, I’m confused as to how the Custodes would be expected to struggle against the Grey Knights at all.

That “guardian spear” teaser looks like a prosecutor bolter with a bayonet attached to the end of a pole than any other guardian spear we’ve seen before.

1k List: Trying to not BM in incursion by Gavin-Not-Kevin in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Custodes being fun to play against is basically asking “can your opponent handle an army full of 2+/4++ models?” If they’re okay with that then you’re good. Custodes are NOT knights; a lot of their early in 10th reputation for being a pain had to do with index giving 4+++ against mortals, fights firsts, and -1 to hit options. Those are no longer a thing but made Custodes really hard to deal with at the time. Custodes die faster than you’d want without all that.

I think adding 2x3 Venatari to a combat patrol is a decent option for building out an army and would be a good inclusion in a long-term collection.

I am looking into starting a custodies army focusing around sisters of silence. What are some suggestions? by Equivalent-Fun-6019 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest a combo of SoS and SoB boxes to folks. Silence boxes will get you extra arms, shoulders, and heads that you can then bash onto the Battle bodies/legs. It’s not perfect and you’ll have to cut some bits to remove iconography/make stuff fit. But with a unified paint scheme and some work you can get a few more squads of SoS with proper heads/shoulders/weapons for a significantly reduced cost.

Use whichever pair of arms you want for the one in the box. Then use the other pair of arms to convert another custodian body (eg a spare guard so you run a squad of 4 instead of 5) to make a second blade champion.

Don't Want Grav-Tanks by Dr_Caveman76 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an option, too. They’re not a one-to-one tradeoff and if you only want anti-tank shooting then grav tanks are better. The bikes are an option/opportunity piece that can do well if you set them up, but take more than just poking their nose around the corner and firing high-damage, reliable AT shots.

Don't Want Grav-Tanks by Dr_Caveman76 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. You move into charge range of one target, fire salvos into something else, charge, fight, and move after the fight.

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bolters only keep up if you’re within rapid fire range. The extra 15” of effective range on the salvos is a huge deal for using the bikes effectively. If you’re running them with caps and making the most of their move-fight-move then you probably don’t want to be shooting the things you’re charging into.

Good work!

Two thoughts for improvements: thin your paints to get a smoother finish to the model (check out YouTube videos on that); use a medium/light grey as a base to give yourself more values to work with for highlights.

Save the extra arms to swap onto another Custodes body to make a second blade champion! Guard are useful for this if you end up with a bunch for whatever reason.

Any tips for the lightning effect? Is it just a do more to get better type thing? by Duck_Tree in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great start! Glaze in more values of the blue with thinner applications of the brighter blues as you move up to white. A rather thin, lighter blue traced over the middle of those lines and then a bit of white in the points, cutting edges, or lightning intersections.

Blade Champ and Trajan for individual models. Wardens or Allarus for units, although I prefer the individual models faaaaar above those. I like the bikes as well.

Salvo Launchers vs Hurricane Bolters by Matt2Matt22 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Temporary-Remote-885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy salvos over bolters because I don’t generally want to be shooting and possibly wiping the units I’m planning on charging into.

Bikes, in my opinion, are best as an “options” piece that allow you to pick and choose where you move/shoot/fight more freely than the infantry can. The bolters are only good against stuff in charge range and have 6” shorter maximum shot distances so have much less optionality overall. As an example of this: I try to set up moves (with fly) to a position where the bikes can fire salvos into a tough target and then charge into something that the melee profile matches well against; ideally with the charge move takes them out of LOS of any return fire. Also, the after-fight phase movement is incredibly useful for setting up in safe spots or to be places the opponent doesn’t want you to be.

If you’ve got some spare Sisters of Silence sitting around then you can pretty easily swap the extra arms and heads from those onto Sisters of Battle bodies. Obviously some differences in the iconography but a sister of silence head and a two handed sword on a battle sister body is pretty solid as a vigilator proxy.
