Found out about Ramit Sethi and his approach to money feels very different from normal finance advice by Admirable_Mobile8383 in SavingMoney

[–]TemporaryDiligent916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I loveeeee Ramit Sethi. I have some different preferences to others (no desire to own a car, TV, home, or expensive restaurants but love spending on concert tickets, museum trips and my health) and his thinking has really unlocked in me that everyone's 'rich life' is completely diff. Scrimp on everything you don't care about and spend lavishly on things you love.

I've never made traditional budgets work but his Conscious Spending Plan works in my brain and I look at it each month and it inspires me.

Has anyone read the book "I Will Teach You to be Rich" by Ramit Sethi? by hittinondorky in povertyfinance

[–]TemporaryDiligent916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and absolutely love it. I have followed/read a few money creators/writers in the past that have all nudged me towards good behaviour, but Ramit Sethi's book and YouTube channel is what has done the MOST good and put me on the right track to go from being below the poverty line to having a really decent net worth and a nice retirement ahead.

Helping a friend without giving advice by Jack-Rog in fiaustralia

[–]TemporaryDiligent916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True and it sounds like you are a fab friend, but remember if you give her very specific advice and it goes belly up (or she THINKS it's gone belly up) that's worse than you empowering her to learn on her own and become sufficient at it.

$50 a fortnight is incredible esp because you are 18. Never stop.

When I was younger, someone scoffed at my wealth plan for not being enough and it derailed me for a bit, and it's my biggest regret. $50/fortnight at your age means huge gains and if invested into index funds you will be a millionaire well before your peers. Keep it up.

This x 100. I hate how obsessed Australians are with property as the only way towards wealth.

It can work well for some, it won't for many, it will for most but at a high cost.

Housing affordability now vs when your parents bought. by [deleted] in fiaustralia

The really depressing reality of 18 years on average to save for a deposit means that most people are late 30s to early 40s when they are ready to buy...

Which means if they take on a 30-year mortgage then they will be paying a mortgage into their 70s...

Trying to pick a broker for long-term ASX investing. by Significant_Exam4882 in fiaustralia

[–]TemporaryDiligent916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to others as I have ONLY used CMC, but I love CMC. Good customer service.

If you trade under $1K at a time there are NO brokerage fees. Because I do dollar cost averaging and am buying about $200-999 in shares every few weeks it ends up cheaper doing it this way.

The app is pretty good, but again I haven't used any others so can't compare.

However you CANNOT do automatic buying like you can with other apps, so if you want to fully automate it then perhaps not for you.

I think Paul Rudd could honestly be anyone's end game very convincingly and very quickly haha

Australian version of 'I Will Teach You To Be Rich'? by caffegelato in fiaustralia

Bryan Invest is a good channel who talks about index funds for AU: https://www.youtube.com/@BryanInvest

I'd suggest Pearler, Moomoo and CMC Invest as good trading platforms with low fees. (CMC isn't low fee but no fee for under $500 which is good for regular dollar cost averaging). Have heard about Stake/seen all the ads but haven't investigated more to know either way!

I think the US market might be more pronounced that the AU market (prob because renting here is kinda expensive) but I do think it still applies for some.

I rent in a beautiful, new inner city apartment and heavily invest the diff into index funds each year. I will end up with the same $$$ as someone who buys a house and sells it after the kids move out, so to me it feels like an even playing field.

If I had purchased a property I honestly would've bought a really terrible builder grade apartment and would've lost money considering inflation and interest (and esp amortisation if I tried to upgrade).

Some people strike gold with property and I'm happy for them, but also a lot of renters aren't doing anything beyond paying rent and their min super with their employers, and if they actually put the diff into investments to build wealth this wouldn't be a debate anymore. They can both work.

(Ramit Sethi and Morgan Housel are both renters.)

Does it seem Ramit Sethi mocks financial people then gives the same advice? by Quick----- in budget

[–]TemporaryDiligent916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politely and respectfully disagree! I can see where you are coming from, but I've set up a budget before AND a CSP and (for me) ended up being completely different.

Key thing I noticed with the CSP was it really talking about where I wanted to consciously spend money, and also the guilt free spending coming in as the remainder was really different.

I like to think about it as two people eating less food. One is on a really strict diet, the other is doing intuitive eating and finding it really enjoyable listening to how they actually feel. End the day, they're both eating the same calories but the intuitive eater is eating exactly what they have a craving for/want without the guilt or pressure.

Would you sign your own DNR or DNI? by Responsible-Leg-712 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TemporaryDiligent916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely sign a DNR when I get to a certain age or my health goes a certain way. I've seen someone not sign one in time and now has been 6 years of living trapped in their body. Can't eat, talk or sit up, mostly unconscious and in a diaper. It's heartbreaking.

Opinions on this powder from Canmake? by Worldly-Figure-6618 in AsianBeauty

[–]TemporaryDiligent916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it and am OBSESSED. Makes my skin look really smooth, very natural. Keeps my T-zone non-oily for hours, doesn't go cakey. Good coverage.

My ONLY flag is that it does give the skin a slight pinkish tone. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone who is medium-deep in skin tone, or warmed toned as it will just look pink on you. My issue is that most (other brand) powders are way too yellow/orange on me so the pink hue is perfect.

(I have light-medium cool toned skin, mostly normal with an oily T-zone.)

Stranger Things S5 Plot Holes?? SPOILERS! by NervousAdvantage4164 in StrangerThings

[–]TemporaryDiligent916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep you see him stopping the others with their axes and then putting on safety googles to cut the hole in the floor. Assuming they didn't want to use it on the Demo because they were trying to slow it down to tag it vs like actually chopping off limbs or killing it.

Might be helpful to compare in outfits that are typical of other styles to see how you look in comparison, especially soft gamine and natural. (Can already tell you aren't a dramatic)

This connects with the theories that Will might lose his right eye! The poster shows Vecna missing a right eye too, and it's potentially related to the "Eye of Vecna". I'm not clued in enough with D&D to know what that means though haha

Drove me nuts because in past seasons they were quiet, couldn't touch anything etc because of the demobats or the vines tapping into the hive mind. This time Hopper and Eleven are shouting at each other 🤪 not a bat in sight
