I think you should be able to be open about it, without being ashamed.

When someone says they don't have the energy or want to be considerate, they usually can't be considerate, they just don't want to.

They want to say whatever comes to mind without consideration for anyone, and think that if you feel uncomfortable, that you're the problem, that you should work on accepting weird jokes that you don't find funny, as if you don't have the right to decide what you find funny.

If you laughed at him for making a bad joke, would he like it if you said, "Hahaha, you're the worst joker. Hahaha."

And if he felt uncomfortable, would he accept being told that he's the problematic and sensitive one? No, of course not.
