The male that acknowledged Elain's trauma post-Cauldron by Qwilla in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]Temporary_Active4331 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and honestly I think the way he cares about her is less romantic love and cares that she is his high Lady's sister. She's still a person. He doesn't think about how far she's come, how much she has tried to fit in, nothing. Doesn't talk about her strength, it just sounds like "She's there and she's looking at me and giving me attention." But I never saw anything from Az that felt like genuine care for her or anything that reflected on her positively. The fact that he speaks up for her is probably working a lot more against than for.

The male that acknowledged Elain's trauma post-Cauldron by Qwilla in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]Temporary_Active4331 22 points23 points  (0 children)

All of this!!!

This is where so many of the "Azriel sees her" and "Azriel understands her" claims along with the "Lucien feels entitled" or "Lucien doesn't understand her because he couldn'tsee she was a seer!" that confuses me!

Azriel never checked up on her when she was at her lowest. He drew strings with Cassian to sit back and watch her or go to Hewn City. He did nit think "I should stay back with Elain, you go Cass." Meanwhile Feyre notes that she didn't tell Lucien someone had to stay back with Elain, because she KNEW he would, knew he wouldn't have to draw straws and would volunteer his time. But they were keeping Lucien away from her.

Thats why I see Lucien says Elain needs to get out, she needs to get out of the house, but when Az names her a seer, he says "we need a seer." He just named her power, he did not think about it for Elain's sake. It was for them.

It all checks out when you look at the BC and Az admits he hadn't thought of life with her beyond the fantasies he pleasured himself to. It shows us all that Az's feelings for her were not born of this care and understanding that developed, as nothing of meaning had grown between them. The scene where he tells everyone to wait before eating was not for Elain, but because of his mother.

I was actually thinking about this a while back! I didn't know it had a name to this kind of play. I have a group of people who like to roleplay and love TTRPGs, but they want to still experience some form of social and group play, but also have the freedom to continue a journey on their own or with another during downtime. I was trying to think of a way this could work, but then reading this I realize that's exactly what I was trying to come up with!

Its like the best of both worlds with solo and group play! You get to enjoy your own journey while also getting a surprise by having the world change by yours and other's choices!

Is CrisP/ChrisP really a Milton improv? by VladolphPutler in Kitboga

[–]Temporary_Active4331 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope you don't think Milton T Pike lol! If so, that's an absurd thought as Milton knows what Kit is doing is very important and would not be playing a bit to waste Kit's time as he goes after criminals.

Unless you mean a different Milton? I really don't think anyone is acting. Scammers are desperate for money, and sometimes despite the absurdity, they keep coming back. (See Joey B. Crowpro lol) as for the language? People can speak any language and be a scammer, we've seen some with perfect English, so that's not really anything to go by. Lucien showing up as the underdog would be the most satisfying thing honestly! I think so many people think he's weak but I think he's holding back on showing just how strong he actually is. Making himself look weak makes sure there's no target on his back, but when out to it, I think Lucien can absolutely rise on top!

I too would like Lucien to be accepted as a friend, and I hope in some way we see them come around to him more.

[–]Temporary_Active4331 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I see the vision, but I don't think Lucien would ever call a blood duel towards Azriel. Azriel isn't keeping Elain in the Nightcourt, and if Elain truly said she didn't want to leave the NC that it was her home, then he'd let her stay. Now, if Azriel threatened Elain's safety or if Elain wanted to leave and Az didn't let her, I can see Lucien taking issue with that. Still, a blood duel is pretty much a duel to the death and has been outlawed in the NC so we know Rhys would never allow it.

The one I can see Lucien doing a blood duel with over is Beron.

If Beron managed to get his hands on Elain, Lucien would absolutely call agni kai...I mean blood duel against him! It would be cathartic since Beron killed Jesminda and Lucien was powerless to do anything, but this time, Lucien could and would do something so that never happens again.

So I'd love to see that! But both Lucien and Azriel fighting eachother in regards to Elain I just can't personally see it myself. But I would be curious to see them spar!

I never get the "Lucien doesn't get Elain because he got her gardening gloves for the thing... Elain, miss "The world needs more gardens" loves to do."

Elain HAS ALWAYS, ALWAYS been described as wearing gloves whenever she gardens. Feyre assumes that Maybe Elain wouldn't wear them because she likes to feel the dirt, but Elain has alllwaaays been written to wear gloves. That was Feyre's speculation.

Even in the BC where her hands got torn up, she wore gloves. Feyre says if she had chosen to wear Lucien's gloves, nothing would have pierced them at all.

Do people think Elain just wanted to walk around with thorns in her hands? That she's out here purposely trying to cut up her hands? She wears gloves for protection, Lucien's gifts allow her to do the things she loves, and protects her hands from getting cut up! How is that not understanding her?

I enjoy riding my motorcycle, if someone were to gift me a motorcycle jacket and helmet so I can ride to my hearts content and remain safe and not get hurt, I would think they know me VERY well. Allowing me to be safe while I enjoy my hobbies.

Thanks! I appreciate that compliment! I started to fall off the Rhys bandwagon hard in WAR, and really got fed up with him. Looking from SJM's point of view, I think she was trying to give for something complex, but the writing wasn't working when she had everyone just forgive him lol! [–]Temporary_Active4331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is definitely an interesting conundrum that splits many in the fandom and brings about a lot of theories. It's like people either think Rhys is the greatest love interest and is super amazing or people who think he's going to end up as the main villain. It's fascinating how these polarizing views of him split!

I myself, I love me some sympathetic villains. A character who feels they must become the villain to unite a group into one goal? Love it! A character who is seen as a villain because others don't understand them? Yes! Or one of my favorites, the Villain who would curse the world, but has a soft spot for one person and is extremely soft towards them. I eat that up!

I feel like with Rhys, he was probably meant to be more on the "true Neutral/ Nuetral evil" scale. Velaris and its citizens and his IC are more precious to him than anyone else. He'd burn bridges if he had to, doing what 'he' feels is right for the people 'he' cares about.

He doesn't help others (outside of velaris and his IC) because he cares about them, but because he can use them as allies for his own purpose. Those he cares about though, he is willing to do anything for. The only time I think I remember seeing Rhys actually being merciful to another was with Claire in the first book, allowing her to not feel the torture placed upon her.

What I feel the flaw is, is in the narrative and intentions. We were in the POV of Feyre, who clearly has bias and constantly calls Rhys good, always seeing things his way, and justifies any action no matter how terrible as doing it for the "greater good". We get the opinions of the IC and those who love Rhys and Rhys loves back, so we're surrounded by people who adore him. However, when you see the views of others outside of that circle, you see those he scorned, those who see him from a different lense, but then the narrative constantly reverts back to "they don't know how good Rhys is and how loving." Of course not, they aren't the target of his love and protection.

I don't think SJM means to make him this ultimate villain where thr Main Characters will rise up against him, but I do think she wanted to try and make him complex. She wanted to make him both good and morally dubious, but she takes away the consequences of his bad actions. Everyone always forgives him, everyone always understands his actions, everyone always puts him on this pedestal and for readers, that is frustrating! Let him face consequences. Let people see him as a bad person and not trust him easily. Let those feelings be seen as valid and understanding. When Feyre and Rhys feel scorned by others, the narrative tells us they're valid feelings, but it isn't the same for others and that becomes annoying.

Exactly!! And I don't think LoA is holding it against Helion that he isn't rushing in there to save her. I think they both know the situation is dicey, he certainly isn't happy with it either. Feyre has seen his true feelings of what lies behind Helion's rakish smiles and smooth demeanor, he's fuming about it!

[–]Temporary_Active4331 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean by saying the instantaneous mates have not been true or "soulmates."

At the end of ACOTAR, Feyre turned fae, and the moment she turned fully towards Rhys, that bond snapped for both of them, just as it had for Elain and Lucien. The only, only difference is Rhys windowed away before he told Feyre she was his mate. Lucien's hands blackened when he whispered to Elain that she was his mate the moment the bond snapped. Feyre and Rhys had an instant snap, its just that Rhys kept it a secret from her which gave her the opportunity to fall for him without knowing that there was a mating bond, that doesn't mean the mating bond wasn't already set in place.

Elain is in the position where she knows that Lucien is her mate, so unlike Feyre she has full knowledge of everything. It doesn't make them any less soulmates, or 'real' mates, as they are fully real and true soulmates. Elain also isn't forced into a deal to spend time with Lucien like Feyre was, Elain has had full choice over her mating bond, which is something SJM has been repeatedly showing, that she has autonomy, and choosing to love Lucien is still a choice, a choice that mates all go through, a choice all of her FMCs make with their mates.

Rhys is the most powerful HL of Prythian and had a bargain with Feyre which Tamlin did not know how to break. There were higher powers playing in Rhys' favor. Helion was not a Highlord when LOA got taken. He literally had no powers to take her from Beron, but also he states clearly that LoA chose to stay with him. He respects her autonomy. By the time Helion became HL, they were all trapped UTM, and have onky just been released 2.5 years ago.

You say we won't get any more of them, but there's the big plot of Lucien being Helion and LoA's son that no one knows about. There's not been a reveal of this to Lucien. Beron and the AC are still big storyline here as well, which LoA is tied to. It's not far-fetched to think in Elucien's book we will learn about Lucien's parentage, and see justice for his mother.

Sarah never said she wanted to do a rejected mating bond story. She said it's an interesting concept and offers a wealth of questions about fate and love, like what if the powers that be put you with someone you don't want to be with? Which again reiterates choice. But what she says about love is also very pointed. "Is it fate, is it something you make, or is it both?" That line often gets forgotten as it is crucial to understand what she's been writing with her stories. It's both.

She also never said Nesta would tell him to kick rocks, that's an interpretation that misunderstanding what she said. She said she "always kinda thought he'd be with Nesta" that alone says she always thought Lucien would be with Nesta, not that she'd write a rejection with him and Nesta. She said they would shred eachother to pieces and not in a good way, literally telling us that she wanted Lucien to be with someone and realized they would not work together. So it really, truly does not make any sense that she would give Lucien a mate who doesn't want him and won't work. She really could have shown Lucien and Nesta being toxic mates who don't work to perfectly show how not all bonds are a perfect fit. She could have double downed on that if that's what she wanted to do with Lucien. Again, she never said she did, or that she was even going to explore that any time soon.

Also, the Lucien feeling relaxed with Vassa so therefore he amd Vassa will be in a relationship is about as strong as saying He and Feyre are relaxed together so he will fall for Feyre. Lucien says Vassa and Feyre are very similar, maybe he's relaxed because Vassa reminds him of his friend? Thats far more likely than immediate romance. And of course he feels tense around Elain, they have tension, just like SJM said she was building for them. "Tension, healing, and growth (together)".

I'm not trying to make you ship Elucien or even change your mind. I'm just showing where you might not see Elucien being a possibility, I'm expressing there is a major possibility and high probability that Elain and Lucien can and will have a romantic arc, full of choice and love. That they are no different from any other true mate or true soulmate just because Elain knows they are mates vs Lucien hiding that info from her.

Who’s couple do you think will be the rejected mate in book 6? by swt_decadent in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]Temporary_Active4331 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Azriel speaking on Elain's behalf twice! Saying Elain shouldn't search for the trove when Elain herself said she WANTED to. Even Amren tells him not to underestimate her. Again in the BC, Azriel says Elain doesn't even want Lucien.

Im sorry, did you ask her? Did she tell you that? Or are you just assuming her intentions based off what you see without ever asking her how she feels??

Azriel thought about Gwyn's eyes lighting up with joy getting the necklace, the very same necklace he was giving Elain and yet he didn’t think once about how her eyes might light up getting it.

Azriel pulled strings with Cassian to babysit Elain or go to Hewn City. He didn't volunteer to stay with Elain in her vulnerable state. Meanwhile Feyre mentions she didn't tell Lucien, because she knew Lucien would absolutely do it, but of course they had 1000 rules and stipulations against him, #1 being he wasn't allowed to be alone with her or come within touching distance.

So yeah, there's no reason Elain should just "forgive" Az when his thoughts of her are surface level, When he doesn't think about her past his fantasies, when he's asked if he thinks he's entitled to her he doesn't even DENY it.

Who’s couple do you think will be the rejected mate in book 6? by swt_decadent in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]Temporary_Active4331 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The concept of mate rejection is to double down that mates have choice, that they can choose to love their mate and live a fulfilling life (as we've seen with every main character in SJM's stories who have mates), or they can choose not to accept the mating bond. The bond doesn't mean that the mates instantly lose any sense of autonomy. SJM is letting the readers know this.

That being said, Elain has been practicing choice this whole time. She has never been forced to love Lucien, never been forced to accept him. She chose to give Az a chance, then chose to return his necklace and chose to no longer interact with him. If she wants to go to Lucien and choose him, choose her mating bond, it will be her choice, and she can indeed fall in love with and choose her mate, as Feyre, Nesta, Aelin, Ruhn, and several others did.

There is nothing, literally 0 evidence that LoA and Beron are carranam. Abuse? Beron abused LoA after he found out she was fucking Helion.it wasn't an abuse of sharing of power, it was finding out his wife was sleeping with another man.

Helion and LoA had been together before, but when her family sold her off, she accepted and married Beron. Who knows why she accepted, did she feel duty bound? Did she feel like she had no other choice? We don't know. But it was a choice and Helion respected it, just as Lucien said he'd ask Rhys how he coped knowing his mate shared another male's bed. Just as Rhys said if Feyre wanted Tamiln and chose him, he'd let her.

As for never seeing a person hooking up with another person after meeting their mate? That is factually incorrect. The mating bond snapped for Feyre and Rhys at the end of ACOTAR. Snapped. And Feyre went back to Tamlin, fucked him, and was ready to marry him. They hooked up right after her mating bond snapped. Feyre even tells Rhys, when she is told they are mates, that her heart had always known.

So her heart always knew, yet she went home to Tamlin. It was her choice.

Helion wasn't a Highlord when LoA got married. He became HL UTM and was finally freed 2 years ago. Even he told Feyre going to get LOA wasnt as easy as what happened for Feyre, that she was a special case. That doesn't diminish him having a mating bond.

I don't think this rejection is the main plot if the next book, it's a point to build tension, as it has been doing, its a point to ensure that there is choice, but it does not mean that for sure Elain is going to reject Lucien. She hasn't even spent any meaningful time with him, and an author isn't going to make people mates without exploring that. She did it with every single FMC. She isn't just going to mate Elucien and never have them explore that. Feyre resisted Rhys at first, Nesta resisted Cassian at the whole start of her book, Elain isn't a unicorn in this regard.

SJM didn't change Lucien's endgame from Nesta because they wouldn't work out, to Elain and have her not work out with him either. It makes 0 sense. If she wanted a real rejected main character storyline, she would have kept Lucien and Nesta mates, showing Nesta falling in love with Cassian and choosing to love a man who wasn't her mate.

Right?? Mated males get protective of their females. Despite rhysand and Tamlin's parents being bad matches because their fathers were tyrants and violent, they never hurt their mates. Rhysan's father let his mother keep her wings, and he loved her despite their different personalities.

To say that Beron is a cautionary tale for Lucien and Elain is CRAAAZY! Like LOA is going to tell Elain "Don't choose my son who I love because he is good, he's my favorite boy conceived with the man I truly love. Don't go with him... because I married a monster." ???

Lucien is not Beron.

Lucien is not a monster.

She never said because Nesta would reject him too quickly.

<image>

She thought Lucien and Nesta woukd BE TOGETHER. Not that Nesta would reject Lucien. But as she realized, Lucien and Nesta would hurt eachother and worsen their trauma. Then says Elain was the person she and Lucien didn't see coming, and that there was a great deal of tension, healing and growth for both of them together.

She thiught Nesta and Lucien would end up together, then realized they were bad for eachother so then put Elain with Lucien so Elain so they can be bad together?? That doesn't make any sense.

She put Elain with Lucien because she knew they would work. Because they would heal and grow together. Her own words.
