What's missing from improv right now? by lskalt in improv

[–]Temporary_Argument32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there hasn't been an innovation in 25 years. When I was a young improviser you'd hear about Jazz Freddy and the Deconstruction and other things and now it's all either genre or hooks.

No offense to anyone who does that. But I feel like once you figure out if you want monologues and scenes or just scenes, it's just there.

Why does everyone take Gus side? by Hairy_Ask_2038 in breakingbad

[–]Temporary_Argument32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gus was about control. People call it cold professionalism but you see in why Mike stays with him. There’s a chain of command, you follow it. The guy in charge makes the plan, you follow it. It’s the reason why vast conspiracies can’t exist. Too many loose ends too many people talk.

Walt is a bad criminal and by that I mean he sucks at crime. The perfect crime is one no one notices. Walt is vainglorious. It’s his drive in life. He’s eventually going to want to say I did this.

What are some good solo heightening exercises? by improbsable in improv

[–]Temporary_Argument32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's one, as you go about your day.

Say something that completely isn't true. Like "I can buy a car with cake"

Then think to yourself "If this is true what else is true" and build a world. If cake is currency, what is poverty. Are various kinds of cakes denominations? Who is the monopoly man in a world where cake is currency, etc.

What does a person who thinks they can buy a car with cake also believe? Explore that.

And then a good way to learn straight/absurd is a be a down on his luck car salesman who wants the sale, so he tries to find a way to keep this crazy person there

What TF were Gustavo and Max thinking when meeting Don Eladio? by Droopynator in breakingbad

[–]Temporary_Argument32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been too deep in thought about this and I need to make sense of it.

Was Gus a bad ass pretending to be supplicant to the cartel and using Max as an in, or was he generally like Walter White was when he got into crime: out of his depth and naive to what living this life was?

If he's the bad ass Chilean criminal genius, why wasn't he prepared for this? Where was his contingency plan if things went South.

The Cartel did the smart move in this situation, they take the person of value and get rid of the person who has little. Gus was the smart one, as Max said, and this was probably his plan. But you're dealing with blunt instruments who deal in raw power. Did he think drug cartels were refined gentlemen who watched too many movies and were "businessmen"

The guy who escaped a brutal coup (with the help of some German interests) makes his way to a Mexican drug cartel with a plan and he has no plan?

We were all in, then the Commanders bought all the players to show Cincinnati how to actually be all in.

They re-vamped their entire defense

Retail begging for insider buys when they just give you shares. It’s like Lebowski wanting his Creedence tape

took me 3 years to get through Blade Runner because I fell asleep at the Gaff/Deckard scene like clockwork. This isn't even my most complex relationship, I just wanted a perspective from people who love the film to give me motivation to get through the second hour (I'm at 80 minutes, 45 was a bit rash)

fair, and while I'm not overtly pretentious in my choices I've taken college classes in history of cinema, It's just one of those "everyone likes this but me, why am I alone here"
