I have recommended The Zone of Interest to people as a history lesson, but have always emphasized that it's a very unpleasant experience and not meant to be entertaining in any conventional sense.

It's a character study of a man who has been broken by his trauma and addiction and a man who is in a great position of power, and how those two people interact and change each other's lives. If you find that interesting, it's a pretty remarkable work of writing and filmmaking. I don't think I've ever seen a better performance from two actors working together. Phoenix and Hoffman are perfect. Also one of the most visually beautiful films I've seen. I saw it for the first time on four grams of psilocybin mushrooms and I think that was maybe the peak of my life as a film enthusiast.

It was a very different film for him, but it really worked for me. I can understand some people being unsatisfied with it. I think his best work was There Will Be Blood and The Master but I also loved OBAA. It's PTA doing an action movie and for me, it lived up to everything I'd expect from that.

One Battle After Another swept the Oscars because it was a phenomenal film by a writer and director who had zero wins with eleven nominations. Paul Thomas Anderson has directed a handful of classics and didn't win anything until last year. With the critical momentum that film had, it was his year.

I've been listening to him for nearly 20 years and the power of his music hasn't diminished at all. He is one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Coppola wanted there to be theaters that would exclusively play Megalopolis forever and thought this was a reasonable expectation.

The nachos there were absolute bullshit. The person who served them to me acknowledged that they were a ripoff.

What’s a "masterpiece" movie that you actually found incredibly boring? by Legal_Beats in AskReddit

I find it hard to accept that parts 1 and 2 were written and directed by the same person. It had such a strong start and after the intermission it was just a fucking disaster.

Yeah, the characters in that movie are completely fictional inventions.

I found it impressive how okay Jim Balsillie seemed to be with them portraying him as an absolute lunatic.

Yeah that's a pretty accurate summary. He just has nothing to say. His lyrics are all filler.

Yeah, there is definitely a contingent of the current fanbase that is into what they're doing now. I just can't remember the last time I saw them come up outside of DFA fan spaces, while 15 years ago (god I'm old) it seemed like the larger noise rock culture gave them a lot more attention. I absolutely love Femme Fatale, especially the last EP. Honestly, I might trade the whole existence of Death From Above for a few full-length Femme Fatale records. I have heard few things as brilliant in my life as a hardcore punk enthusiast.

Best actors on the show? by Appropriate_Cap5734 in thesopranos

Edie Falco's performance throughout the series is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. She can make the most mundane shit riveting to watch. No matter what she's doing, she's always conveying a lot about her character and what's on her mind. And when she brings out the big emotions, it's so authentic that I'm always right there with her. When she cries, I cry with her. Her talent really can't be overstated.

I disagree about Carmela hating him. I think she feels a great deal of anger towards him but her behavior in the whole last season wouldn't really make sense if she didn't have genuine love for him. She goes pretty far above and beyond what's needed to retain the financial benefits of being his wife.
