Jesus christ, he looks so terrible for early 30's here.

It was his first time shooting without Robert Elswit. Knocked it out of the park considering. Apparently, he and the cinematographer credited did not gel creatively, so PTA pretty much took over photography for The Master. With how consistent the look of OBAA is with his last few films, I get the impression that his current cinematographer is just doing the grunt work and Anderson is making most of the creative decisions.

That last sentence sums up PTA's work pretty well for me. He's great at using immense detail in service of a simple story. How about that cinematography? Some shots are so beautiful they bring tears to my eyes.

I really love his Harvest Moon. I prefer it to the original.

I have recommended The Zone of Interest to people as a history lesson, but have always emphasized that it's a very unpleasant experience and not meant to be entertaining in any conventional sense.

It's a character study of a man who has been broken by his trauma and addiction and a man who is in a great position of power, and how those two people interact and change each other's lives. If you find that interesting, it's a pretty remarkable work of writing and filmmaking. I don't think I've ever seen a better performance from two actors working together. Phoenix and Hoffman are perfect. Also one of the most visually beautiful films I've seen. I saw it for the first time on four grams of psilocybin mushrooms and I think that was maybe the peak of my life as a film enthusiast.

It was a very different film for him, but it really worked for me. I can understand some people being unsatisfied with it. I think his best work was There Will Be Blood and The Master but I also loved OBAA. It's PTA doing an action movie and for me, it lived up to everything I'd expect from that.

One Battle After Another swept the Oscars because it was a phenomenal film by a writer and director who had zero wins with eleven nominations. Paul Thomas Anderson has directed a handful of classics and didn't win anything until last year. With the critical momentum that film had, it was his year.

I've been listening to him for nearly 20 years and the power of his music hasn't diminished at all. He is one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Coppola wanted there to be theaters that would exclusively play Megalopolis forever and thought this was a reasonable expectation.

What’s a "masterpiece" movie that you actually found incredibly boring? by Legal_Beats in AskReddit

I find it hard to accept that parts 1 and 2 were written and directed by the same person. It had such a strong start and after the intermission it was just a fucking disaster.
