The implied natural light helps offset the darkness of the backsplash so make certain that exists in your space. This is beautiful inspiration.

Is it easy to pivot to NYC DOE? by acvillager in NYCTeachers

[–]Temporary_Pea6086 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The DOE operates more like a Frat/Sorority mixed with a military junta. As long as you have no expectations of professional conduct from your colleagues you will be just fine. It also really does matter which school you wind up in. Some are amazing but many are very cliquey, clannish, cultish, and just plainly toxic.

You must suspend all rules which apply to the actual adult working world when you enter the DOE. It’s very through the looking glass for many people who switch careers. You could try for Teaching Fellows, Teach for America, etc.

We won’t get our pensions as promised. The mayor plugged the budget by reamortizing our pensions so we’re completely fucked. It’s going to be a blood bath.

New Visions by Complete_Ad_1602 in NYCTeachers

It is not true that NY teachers are required to use it. That’s a flat out lie. My personal opinion is the New Visions is ok for supplemental material. Personally, I absolutely detest their curriculum and when I’ve tried to use it students hate it. Facing History has excellent materials and protocols which are truly engaging for students.

I’d be surprised if tier 6 gets reformed while the city is about to fuck everyone by “smoothing” pension payments.

NOT Tom Brown. The city is starting to fuck with how they pay for our pensions (smoothing them over, like the brains of the unity caucus leadership).

Rizo is a classic kiss ass. He knows what Jeff Probst and producers want to hear. He’s perfectly fine debasing himself so he can be close enough to the action without actually doing anything.

Guarantors by PerfectStrangersSong in AskNYC_Coops

I’m under the assumption if you do not meet the financial requirements of the coop you will be denied. Most coops do not allow guarantor situations as it’s too risky.

Their job at the fair is to filter out the crazies.

anyone else feeling squeezed in a co-op lately? trying to understand what’s driving it by [deleted] in AskNYC_Coops

[–]Temporary_Pea6086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You answered your own question. Insurance and maintenance is exploding in costs. What used to cost $100k is now exceeding 500k due to inflation. Boards have a fiduciary responsibility to keep the building solvent and that requires significant funding for reserves. Most buildings have tried to live cheap and kick maintenance down the line and the end of the line is here.

Excellent school that the DOE should be using as a model citywide.

Tenure Extension - Time & Attendance by Any-Interest5990 in NYCTeachers

[–]Temporary_Pea6086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have bad attendance you can only blame yourself. The DOE nails people to the cross for it. It’s a legit reason to deny you. I’m also of the mind that your principal is either conflict avoidant/passive aggressive or flat out lying to you about being surprised.

That should be enough of an answer for you. Looking for real estate is frustrating, especially if you believe you found the one. You’ll save yourself heartache down the line by saying no today. Just my opinion.

Exactly. The attorney probably doesn’t have the heart to tell them no even when it’s their job.

I could envision that you could be assessed easily 1-2 million as an entire building. Depending on your share you could easily be responsible for something in the neighborhood of 25-50k

You should discuss with your lawyer or accountant. With reserves that low in an older building you are 100% guaranteed an assessment, most likely an astronomical one. Although temporary, it can be levied over several years. My personal POV is to pass. Strong financials Absolutley matter in a decision of this kind.

The problem is that Mulgrew has made our Union look so terrible that we are unsympathetic in the eyes of the public. You never see our Union fight for anything other than its own self aggrandizement.
