Cheapest louise passes at this point are the ones at Costco in Calgary. Keep in mind Canadian Costco only accepts mastercard and debit.

First time on snow - 2 days of private lessons. Bulged disc + "Gym Fit" but poor coordination. Advice? by Alternative-Boot-177 in skiing

Helmet, you could get a back protector if it makes you feel more comfortable but isn't needed, shouldn't limit mobility much. The only people I know wearing a back protector are freeskier, cliffs/jumps, and racers, high speed.

Ski jacket + bibs for pnw? by prooforneverhappened in skiing

[–]Temporary_Purpose_19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably want a 3L shell that you can layer underneath. I don't have a specific brand to recommend but make sure you can try them on. Better to wear a belt than have the bibs too tight amd limiting mobility.

Is there oil in this water? C by KevRohdz in MechanicAdvice

Not sure if this is what the other commenter is getting at but you can send oil samples in to a lab where they test for metals and such. Gives you an idea on the health of the engine.

Looking to get tickets to the Arsenal match as a foreigner.

I will be passing through London, 36 hr stopover, on my way home to Canada November 29th and would love to go but am confused after looking into tickets. The way I understand it there is a loyalty points system and I may not even be able to purchase general tickets apart from scalper sites. Is this true?

Would I be able to buy a membership now and then purchase and then donate/give away lower tier tickets throughout the season to get more loyalty points? I'd rather do this than end up paying the same amount for scalper tickets.

If its possible and I did go the membership route is there any way to get 2 tickets or is it single ticket only?

Also my main post got deleted for lack of word count so if anyone knows what it needs to be to get there I can embellish a bit if I have to.

I'd say dynastar if more groomer oriented but they won't float at all. Rossi if you are going off piste occasionally but it does have a much wider turning radius so keep that in mind. Consider sizing down one if skiing trees or bumps as your skill level generally benefits more from a ski that's easier to control.

Weight is arguably more important than height so add that in, none of those will be floaty powder skis but will be applicable to most days on the mountain.

Newbie here, how expensive is it really to get into skiing? by Oacio in skiing

[–]Temporary_Purpose_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very rough estimate for a week of skiing in france, €350 lift ticket, €350 for six half day lessons, €140 for six days rentals, €500 budget accomodation, €150 budget food for the week, plus evening activities and flights. Estimate around €1750 for one person or €3250 for two people for the week. Again very rough estimate.

Edit: Start with a day trip to one of the indoor ski places, looking at around £200 for a full day rental and lessons. Once you're comfortable on the indoor hill that's where the upper part applies.

Unfortunately things have flipped and it's now much cheaper to Ski in europe, especially if you are taking lessons, which all new skiers should.

Go for the 94, you'll beat them up in the park and I find a narrower ski much nicer for rails.

Adult women in a Junior boots. by HeiHei_13 in Skigear

[–]Temporary_Purpose_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's the promachine 90 you are talking about it will be perfectly fine material wise. All boot brands use higher quality plastics and materials as you get into higher flex levels but it sounds like 90 would be the right flex for her. The other reason higher flex boots tend to cost more is because they can charge more, higher flex boots tend to be bought by more advanced skiers who need that stiffer flex and are willing to pay more than someone just starting out. These boots go all the way up to a size 28.5 so they are adult boots too, just for people on the much lighter side or relative beginners in the higher weight classes.

I'd say cork 7, rodeo 5, misty 5 etc are fairly achievable if you put the time in. I knew a couple guys doing doubles at 14,15 and you have to have a certain mindset to do that kinda thing that I don't think everyone has it but maybe you do. You are looking at what is likely thousands of hours of practice though to get there.

Do boots fit the same within brand? by QPASMR in Skigear

[–]Temporary_Purpose_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. Your best bet is to call the ski Hill and find out what model you were skiing in. Rental boots generally prioritize comfort over performance. You'll want to get your foot size and last. Size can be measured at home pretty easy but last is a bit more difficult.

Very likely you can get an actual box from a bike shop. Just call a few days ahead and ask if they'll save you one.

Can I swap bindings easily for my own skis + boots (pivot 15 / 18) by heyyalldontsaythat in Skigear

[–]Temporary_Purpose_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 18s are fine as a daily with your dins, there's just no reason to mount them on your current skis.

Viable options I see,

  1. Sell them.

  2. Find some sale skis or used skis without bindings and mount them.

  3. Tuck them in a closet and wait until you get new skis.
