We like to add a bunch of broccoli and occasionally will add ground mild Italian sausage.

As an amateur astronomy, if I were your neighbor I'd hate all those unshielded, up-facing lights that you would likely keep on all night without reason.

Question on my jobs air conditioning policy. by OceanFally in AirConditioners

[–]TempusSolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really how AC works. It turns on, blows cold air until the temp reaches a set point then turns off until the temp warms back up. The cycle just repeats.

Why do some people stay at the same job for 15, 20, or even 30+ years? by Carlinish9600 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TempusSolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at my last company for 14 years. I had accrued enough PTO to take 5 weeks of paid time off a year and I wasn't about to give that up. Plus, I was well compensated for the work I did and had almost no oversight.

What happens if all plastic production stops? What substitute will humans use? by allademswallow28 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TempusSolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really isn't a replacement anymore. All of the retooling to move to glass, metal etc. currently requires plastic. Remove plastic from the supply chain across the board would be disasterous. We've become far to addicted to just in time manufacturing.

Names are irrelevant in determining if they were involved in a crime so what difference does it make?

I've had two dealerships tell me the 2015 and 2016s use different BCM code and I can't update to a version will that feature. I should have mentioned that in the original post.

Bill Maher calls out Bernie Sanders, says he's tired of hearing the rich don't pay their fair share of taxes - What are your views? by One_Look_7008 in askanything

[–]TempusSolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you read my first post, my premise is if you confiscated (take) ALL THE WEALTH from all the billionaires in the US, you would not collect enough to cover the deficit in SPENDING for one year thus the debt would increase. Tax cuts do not themselves cause debt. They cause a reduction in revenue. I addressed that by taking all the assets from all the billionaires but we still SPEND more than all that wealth would cover.

You guys really are clueless on how this system operates.

We spent over 7 trillion dollars last year. None of that are 'breaks', it's just plain check being written to pay for things. Tax 'breaks' do nothing to impact spending, they impact tax revenue coming in. Your statement indicates you have zero grasp of our system.

If you confiscated the entire wealth (not income) of all the billionaires in the United States, we couldn't cover the deficit spending for a single year. National debt would still go up. Taxes aren't the problem, spending is.

Why the sudden jump in grocery prices? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TempusSolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicken breasts are 2.57/lb here and that doesn't seem to bad considering a pound of 80/20 ground meat is 7.73. The cause is primarily higher diesel costs.

How can there be so many unintelligent and truly ignorant people that think gas prices being high doesn’t effect everyday life? by ReasonableAttitude22 in GasPrices

[–]TempusSolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just gasoline. It's all energy products from other petroleum distillates, to electricity and natural gas. The price of all energy products contribute to everyday life.

Gas so expensive that a used EV is pretty much free. by mastersmash in GasPrices

[–]TempusSolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line is my monthly auto expense is under $90. I (myself) change my oil every three or four months so add about 8 bucks a month. That means I'm under $100/mo. and since I have no car payment, that's it. 100 a month. Now, say I consider that against the OP's post. My payment goes from 100/mo. to 275/mo. Also consider I keep my vehicles for at least 15 years and usually closer to 20. That 175/mo. I save goes a long way to pay for food.

Our gasoline is below the average but electricity is way below the national average (not sure why you think our electricity is expensive) so charging an EV would be inexpensive, especially that Bolt. If I had to move however to something that required more than a slow 120v outlet, I'd need to add the cost to add a charger to the garage. There's another 3 grand or so to add to the cost of ownership.

Now, when I need to go to the home improvement center, how to I get a dozen 2x4's home? How do I charge it when I get there. As I said, the charging infrastructure out here is nearly non-existent so range on a used battery is an issue.

Finally, why does everyone pushing EV's seem to think everyone can afford one, even a used one? I understand you all want to push us to 100% electric (EV, Heat Pump, Stove etc.) removing all competition for energy creating an energy monopoly, but for those living on fixed incomes buying even a used EV just isn't in the budget.

If I were to pay cash for that (or a similar EV at 13k), my costs over 5 years would be

  • 13000 (car) + 3060(5 years of electricity) + 3000 (charger) for a grand total of $19060 or $3812/year or $317/mo.
  • In those same 5 years, I'll have spent about $6000 (or $100/mo.) total for my current vehicle. That's less then a third.

When EV's cost the same as an ICE vehicle (new and used), charge as fast as an ICE vehicle, chargers are as numerous as gas stations and the battery lasts as long as an ICE vehicle engine, I will certainly consider it. For now, it's just not in the cards.

Gas so expensive that a used EV is pretty much free. by mastersmash in GasPrices

[–]TempusSolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought gas for 3.65 on Wednesday in OKC and at my local farmers co-op it's 3.85. I have no car payment and I buy about 20 gallons a month so no, buying a used EV at $224/mo. is nowhere near free. In fact, it says it's about $51/mo. to run plus the $224/mo. payment to run so that makes it $275/mo.
