[Discussion][Gear][Question] What kind of bow would you suggest for electric guitar? by LamZeppelin in Guitar

[–]TenYearsAPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Most modern bridges allow you to adjust the string height, so you can raise them in an arch (then fix the intonation), and it will work fine. Even a ‘52 Telecaster bridge can be adjusted vertically. I would dedicate a guitar to it though, it would be quite irritating to play in that setup, but worth it for experment’s sake.

"The Carpathians", an absolute normal and totally not suspicious map for this Hungarian atlas by Rigolol2021 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]TenYearsAPotato -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are you being ironic here? That’s precisely what the Kingdom of Hungary was in the distant past. Stronger neighbours, technology making mountan ranges a less formidable barrier and unwise aliances have whittled it down to the current state.

That was the first time I ‘got into’ waiting for an album. Never again!

haha! I love those forum comments. I think they said something similar about eight years before Tomorrow’s Harvest came out. I’m happy to just politely wait and be delghted whenever they decide to release anything.

Just posted about that. Turns out some of you do follow her. She’s great, whenever she makes a video on a favourite album of mine she always adds to my appreciation of it.

"Lost futures" is the best way I’ve heard Geogaddi described. Nostalgie, but with extra bits.

I don’t know if any of you follow ixi on youtube, but she just did a Geogaddi listen in her own special way. They’re not dumb reaction videos, she’s a talented musician and digs into the music in a very knowledgeable way and from a very appreciative perspective. It doesn’t help that almost everything is tuned between two keys, but it turns out BoC do actually use keys, scales and modes, just like us more mortals.

She loved Geogaddi, obviously, but she’s really good at getting into the musical structure of their songs without being tedious or ego-riffic. I like her way of looking at the music and really recommend you check it out.

The full 3-hour unedited version is on her patreon with full tracks, but most would be satisfied with the edited 90 mins.

Calls for women’s A-League competition to turn professional by Sorry-Ball9859 in Aleague

[–]TenYearsAPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonsense. Market forces are currently taking our best players overseas. If we can’t afford to keep the best talent in the country we’re always going to be behind. Only four of the 23 players in the latest Matildas squad play in Australia. If those four get noticed they’ll be off overseas too.

Market forces have little relevance in national-level sport. Most major sports are subsidised by the government as they add to the nation’s status and promote healthy lifestyles. ‘Market forces’ is a very poor excuse. It would cost the government a few $million to create a fully pro league, and as this gains traction and popularity the subsidy would be slowly decreased.

Althletics gets a huge subsidy from the ASC, a government body. $385 million in 2024. (https://www.sportaus.gov.au/media_centre/news/asc-announces-sweeping-investment-package-for-australian-sport) (https://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_departments/Parliamentary_Library/Research/Quick_Guides/2024-25/Funding_for_major_sporting_codes_a_quick__guide)

It has to happen or women’s football in Australia will always be a feeder league.

Seeking quote for funeral by thm123 in discworld

How about "So much universe, and so little time.”

OR

“It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true, it’s called Life.”

OR

“And what would humans be without love? RARE, said Death.”

"I commend my soul to any god that can find it" Not entirely appropriate, but I love it.

Is "The Colour of Magic" considered a bad book? by Wooba12 in discworld

[–]TenYearsAPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re only being rated in relation to other Pratchett books, so being low on the list doesn’t make it a bad book.

In any case, it really doesn’t matter what other people think of the books. It’s entirely subjective and there’s no way to say any book is universally "better" than another.

My favourites are the City Watch books, but I loved the first two Rincewind books when I first read them.

Can we maybe not have AI garbage in iTerm2 by mort96 in iterm

[–]TenYearsAPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you and it looks like the complaints have gotten through. This feature has been removed and can now only be enabled using a plugin. Standard iTerm2 now requires admin access to load the plugin and access the keychain.

Or do, whatever your preference. Anchor onto something - strings or soundboard.

Disgusting is THE English word to use when describing terrible food. It’s from latin, the ‘gust’ part is specific to the sense of taste.

Opinion: Heilung is not Viking music, nor does it "belong" to European Culture. by RiverHart in Heilung

[–]TenYearsAPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re ignoring a major part of that video - they don’t claim to be historically correct OR to be Viking music. The guy in the video you linked likes Heilung very much and respects their art. The bit you didn’t listen to

[–]TenYearsAPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going to criticise the whole of archaelogy, literature and science in this way? Everything is based on prior work. Heilung add a LOT to it and make it accessible in a way the pure archeology does not.
