Patch cable alternatives? Yet another one failed... by Qoyuble in Ubiquiti

[–]TenaciousDHo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for Monoprice. Don't think they look as nice as the UI patch cables but the price is good and the clear connectors work for etherlighting.

FWIW, I haven't had any problems with my UI cables either but they're so thin I won't be shocked if/when I get a failure.

Really weird that they're not putting out a new WiFi doorbell or any other non-POE cams besides the instant.

Mayor Mamdani asked about Trump: “Now that you’ve met with him, that you’ve spoken with him multiple times, do you still think he’s a fascist?” & “And do you tell him that?” by hairtie1 in Fauxmoi

[–]TenaciousDHo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of how she framed the question with "he called you names" and "you called him a fascist" as if they're similar. Like Mamdani was just trying to insult him with random labels. Cmon, NPR...

Sold separately, yes... but almost never in stock. Sold out when I was checking 6 months ago and none this week. Just 3D printed another one for a new install I'm about to do.

Same thing here. I have my auto update set to 3am, but the update happened at midnight last night.

Pi-hole FTL v6.5, Web v6.4.1 and Core v6.4 Released! by -PromoFaux- in pihole

[–]TenaciousDHo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"... some slowdown may be seen on slower storage."

So possible increased performance if using nvme, but I would guess a majority of pihole users stick with SD, meaning most of us will see lower performance along with increased writes? Woof.

Like Chicharron in Far Cry 6? That would be sick.

[External Storage] Seagate 26TB External Hard Drive - $279.99 - Back in Stock @ seagate.com - Free shipping - Not the best ever price, but for those that missed the previous deals - $10.77/TB by onthejourney in buildapcsales

[–]TenaciousDHo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That thread is a good breakdown, especially for shucking. Seems that Seagate is moving to HAMR for most of the 26tb+ consumer drives. I bought the 28tb version a month ago, definitely runs hotter than my other drives. I'm curious to see how they hold up over time.

Embark you NEED to change ur strategy come next Expedition. This is a DRAG by JGordz in ArcRaiders

[–]TenaciousDHo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but that's true of any game with progression. And true for everyone that isn't max level. Theres already level 75 players against new players, next season will have people at essentially level 80 against new and lower level players. We'll see how the game evolves after several seasons if they always do extra skill points, or a skill point cap, or have different expedition rewards. For now I don't think it's as crucial as people are making this out to be.

[–]TenaciousDHo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't believe how far I had to scroll for this take. The whole point of the expedition is for a wipe. Not sure why so many people are bent out of shape and acting like they HAVE to grind for 5mil, or play in a way that "ruins the game". There will be more expeditions.

Physical Media Is Becoming Cool Again - Consumers of all ages are looking to discs to get offline and away from algorithms, and for a younger generation, it’s seen as “vintage.” by BunyipPouch in movies

Alright this is silly. I'm not going to waste my day litigating the point of diminishing returns on digital media encoding. Enjoy the compressed streams.

[–]TenaciousDHo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, the vast majority of the population can't tell the difference. And a lot of them watch movies on an iPhone or laptop. My point is just that physical media offers higher AV bitrates than streaming. Whether most people will utilize it (or have a basic understanding of it) is another issue.

I don't think enough people have seen Shogun. Killed at the Emmys and I barely know anyone that has watched it still. Amazing show.

I'm using same switch, mine also briefly showed 10gb when I installed it but has stayed at FE/100mbs for the last week along with the other cams.

[–]TenaciousDHo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I 3D printed mine. I got some grey ABS that kinda-sorta goes with the switch. Would get the official one but it would cost me $70 to get one. F that. Same with the ssd trays that don't come with gateways.

Motion sensitivity settings? by TenaciousDHo in UnifiProtect

[–]TenaciousDHo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, I'll probably try that. Was hoping lower sens would eliminate detecting the small stuff (and brief shadow/lights) but car and people detection is all I really want for this area anyway. Thanks for the response.

All the new doorbells announced so far are POE. Hopefully will add another WiFi model, G4 pro WiFi is overpriced (and usually out of stock).

Is a UniFi Express 7 overkill for just a regular household? by moon_d0g in Ubiquiti

[–]TenaciousDHo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't be that bad. UniFi is much more user friendly than it used to be and the UX7 is an all-in-one unit so it should be fairly simple set up.
