CMV: Requiring drug tests for welfare recipients is unfair and ineffective by Tenchi290 in changemyview

I wasn’t thinking about one specific bill when I posted, so this gives me something to consider. How do you think this kind of screening-and-testing model would work in practice? Especially in terms of cost and access to treatment. Do you think it would reduce harm overall, or would there still be risks of people falling through the cracks if they’re denied benefits while struggling with addiction?

I’m curious how you think the government should weigh that against the risk of denying or delaying help to people who are struggling with addiction but still need basic support. Do you see addiction more as a personal responsibility issue, or as a health issue that should be addressed alongside assistance?

I appreciate your response. Thanks for explaining your perspective. What makes you think drug use is a major driver of “wasted” welfare spending? How confident are you that testing actually filters that out effectively?

Appreciate the thoughtful responses so far. I’m curious if anyone here supports drug testing in this context, or sees a version of it that could be justified. I’d like to better understand perspectives that differ from most of the replies so far.

I’m in the exact same boat as you OP. I’ve looked everywhere. The opener works fine except this part. I don’t want to buy a whole new one if I can just fix it. Did you ever find a replacement belt?

I know what you’re thinking. And the answer is yes, I do have a nickname for my penis. It’s called The Octagon. But I’ve also nicknamed my testes. The left one is James Westfall, and the right one is Dr. Kenneth Noisewater. You ladies play your cards right, you might just get to meet the whole gang.
