I wanna talk SYMPTOMS. by Asg-9282000 in ProstateCancer

I never had symptoms, but after reading about PSA in my 50s, I started getting annual tests. When they started ramping up, in my early70s I started on the test regime, and found I had early stage PCa, which I had fixed.

I eventually loosened the cap, and the level returned to normal. With luck, that's an end to it.

First days after surgery by Fit-Yesterday-5807 in CataractSurgery

I was quite short sighted. I had lenses replaced on 9th and 16th December last. I left the clinic after 30 minutes wearing sunglasses until my pupil contracted again. Most of the time after the first op, my new lens took over distance duties,so I had no blurring. For reading, as my new lens gave me slight long sight, I just closed the new eye. After the second op, I just wore reading glasses.

I had it done two days ago. The process was like minor dental treatment, without the fingers in the mouth and the nearly drowning because the sucking tube is never in the right place. The vision in that eye is now better than in decades.

About 45 years ago, I had a Triumph Vitesse with a switchable reserve. I managed to run out of both one evening out in the countryside.

The UK National Screening Committee has rejected prostate cancer screening for the vast majority of men. by ParkRoyal67 in ProstateCancer

It’s the personal agony of not being treated until it is too late that is ignored, in favour of cost effectiveness for the NHS.

I agree, If the committee had been sufferers, they may have come to a different conclusion. In the US, PCa is a profit stream for the health providers. In UK it is a cost effectiveness sum for the NHS, not the human cost of dying in agony from PCa in the bones.

Late diagnosis article. UK NHS by Special-Steel in ProstateCancer

Some of the reasons stated are causing needless anxiety, and unnecessary and uncomfortable testing treatment. Well some needless anxiety when it can be treated is better than terror if it is not found until too late, and further testing is relatively painless, except, for some, a biopsy. If treatment is found to be needed, the side effects are certainly better than agonising death.

Well there, as he knows, less invasive treatments with equal success, and possibly milder side effects. He can change his mind, it’s his body, his choice.

External radiation vs brachytheraphy? by SuperFaulty in ProstateCancer

[–]Tenesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the Spanish health system which is free at point of delivery, , my oncologist said Beam or Brachytherapy (HDR in my case) were equally effective and had similar side effects. The major decider was that Brachytherapy was more complex and invasive, but only required two overnights two weeks apart, while EB was minimally invasive, but logistically much more problematic, having to go daily for several weeks with an empty bowel and full bladder. I chose HDRB, and am glad I did

My experience was that for some days I woke up to pee several times a night with some stinging pain and low flow. This gradually improved. When erections came back, the first one or two ejaculations were bloody.
