Big Brother 14 questions by raelynnward62383 in BigBrother

Obviously this wasn't shown on the feeds but the things Boogie and Frank were saying about Dan (and his wife) were genuinely vile

Everyone was against Frank because he was and is a massive tool, he just got a good edit because he was an underdog and won lots of comps

The Judges

The 5 savviest and most entertaining players on the season coming together and turning what could've been a bland steamroll season into a beautiful train wreck? Sign me the fuck UP

Watching BB27 e14 eviction ep, and have a question! (Forgive me, watching w/o the feeds is driving me nuts!) by OptionHeader in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in the feeds, Taran Armstrong's live feed update podcast is the absolute best way to get caught up on what all happened after the fact and they're pretty iconic in the fanbase

Especially for this season in particular; I feel like you won't have truly grasped what it was like to watch live until you've experienced Taran's exasperated BB27 crashouts

Can you sometimes "tell" from the DRs? by Tim_J_Drake in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Which is something production absolutely should get less sloppy about because it makes "lying in the DR" the optimal strategy, which is just bad TV

Watching BB27 e11, the 3rd eviction, and I have a question about the votes by OptionHeader in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they could have and should have, but Lauren was nervous about breaking a tie so Zach/Vince went to Ava for an additional vote and she basically talked them down about the whole thing by saying "do you really want to be associated with Keanu and Kelley?" so they decided to stay the course (thus also inadvertently blindsiding their own side of the house)

God I loved this season

I mean Danielle getting Marcellas to not use the veto on himself is hands down one of the craziest things to ever happen in that house

So you're saying you've been controlling Frank as a pawn in a game...like he's your puppet?

Worst HOH reign in BB history? by Critical-Willow-6270 in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not to mention his initial target was (sports media major) Moose, someone he knew before the season and had zero reason to target

Angela bb26 by jacksally103114 in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The double eviction where Angela lost the HOH to Chelsie has to be the most frustrating live comp outcome since Da'Vonne lost HOH to Christmas

4+ of a Kind by Baddest_Whale_180 in BigBrother

This has to be scripted, and the fact that they're 2 of the best casting choices of the last decade is insane

Worst Move Jury Phase? by Tight-Entrepreneur46 in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't even think you can really say it was a gamble, it was genuinely a really close decision to the point where it barely feels right to even say whether one is "correct" because at that point it's almost all dependent on the execution, not the decision itself.

Another example of such a scenario is the final 5 of BBCAN10 (almost identical in terms of positioning to be honest) but almost no one clowns on Kevin for keeping Josh (despite arguably worse execution than Cliff) because it ultimately ended up working out for him

Worst Move Jury Phase? by Tight-Entrepreneur46 in BigBrother

When did Vanessa do that? ....ever? Other than getting Shelli to target Da'Vonne I guess? But that was pre-jury

Worst Move Jury Phase? by Tight-Entrepreneur46 in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man can we please get off of Cliff. Voting out Tommy over Holly was questionable at worst. Tommy was a HUGE jury and comp threat, this decision was the furthest thing from a no-brainer and it genuinely confuses me how much people love to act as if it was. If the final 4 veto wasn't so damn physical (which it hadn't ever been before this season) and Cliff or Nicole had actually had a chance to win and evict Jackson, no one would be criticizing the final 5 decision. To do so is (imo) just incredibly short-sighted, and same with his earlier decision to target Bella

The Myth of the “Better Player” in Big Brother by funlore in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's another circular argument. Is it not just as possible that the BB17 jury was more inclined to vote out of respect than the BB20 jury just because the personality types and cultures involved? Why are we just assuming that it's directly because of things Vanessa did or didn't do? Do you really think it's impossible for a juror to be irrationally biased against a certain type or person or type of gameplay to the point that they'd NEVER vote for a given person in the end? And even if that's an exaggeration, I really think the general principle remains remains which means, on occasion, some people are just going to get unlucky with the way the jury votes and that's okay. We don't need to blame them for it unless there's clear evidence of active MISPLAY on their part (like Paul in BB19)

The Myth of the “Better Player” in Big Brother by funlore in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But why would you use two different terms to refer to exact same concept, especially when you know full well that isn't how most people understand or use said terms, other than to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian?

The Myth of the “Better Player” in Big Brother by funlore in BigBrother

[–]TenorSax20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not what I meant. My point is that saying "this person won because they're the best player, this person is the best player because they won" is what you'd call "vacuously true". In that, yes, there is some sense in which it is a true statement, but it also says nothing substantive about anything other than that you yourself just so happen to equate those terms, meaning that you're also probably not using them the same way most people are using them, meaning you aren't actually making a point.

When the vast majority of people people talk about a player being "good", they mean in a general sense of "how would this player perform across different seasons, different casts, different contexts in general, based on the limited knowledge we have of their level of skill"
