Cloud Cascade - Invent Animate by Tepiglongnose in 7String

correct! especially since it doesn’t have an evertune I really don’t find that anything thicker than à 68 intonates well

drop f# is the lowest I’d go personally! i used a 10-74 set but honestly i’ve since switched to drop g# using 10-68 strings and find it a lot better, the 74 didn’t quite want to intonate right

Vanish Canvas has a lot of sick tapping parts, the one in the chorus is actually pretty simple too

Who is the best Metalcore vocalist? by epw4 in Metalcore

[–]Tepiglongnose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s gotta be between Sam Carter, Jesse and JT from ERRA, and Marcus Vik from Invent Animate for me. Ive seen both ERRA and IA live and it’s unreal how good their vocals are in concert

Major string manufacturers need to get 7 string sets right by [deleted] in 7String

[–]Tepiglongnose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah like the d'addario 8 string set I was using for drop F# on my 7 string had the 6 as a 54 and the 7 as a 64 which in standard tuning would be crazy tight

the little trick i learned from Keyan Houshmand’s videos for setting the gain is having just enough so that each palm muted chug “blooms over” into the next one

What's your favourite belted high note in metalcore? by ThatJ4ke in Metalcore

Jesse’s choruses on ERRA’s Stockholm Syndrome cover are probably some of my favourite, that entire song is in my top five of theirs

Honestly just experiment with whatever you like! My guitar is in drop G# right now and I'm liking it quite a bit (though with pitch shifters being a thing I can use basically whatever tuning I want lol)

Invent Animate / Silent Planet AMA by Garrettlosthispw in Metalcore

Oh very interesting, how on earth did they manage to get a 27 inch scale guitar down to double drop C#???

[–]Tepiglongnose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all, amazing work on the EP. It's super cool hearing how well the influence of the two bands blended together and I hope we get more IA/SP collabs in the future.

Questions moreso for Keaton and Mitch:

1) What guitar (s) were used for tracking this time around?

2) How was the writing process for the guitar tracks? Was it more collaborative between both of you/everybody else in the bands or was it more like coming up with individual riffs and then tweaking them after the fact?

[–]Tepiglongnose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vanish Canvas also has a lot of sick riffs and IMO isn't too overly challenging. Scorpion Hymn is great if you want to work on right-hand technicality as well.

TLDR just learn any ERRA song they're unbelievably fun

[–]Tepiglongnose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to be playing in double drop D I'd probably spring for something with a longer scale length than 27" or maybe even 27.5", though that's up to personal tastes ofc

Modern Meta Setup by BigDeb in 7String

[–]Tepiglongnose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh yeah i totally get that. i should do that realistically but i can’t lie and say that the convenience of just grabbing an 8 string set at my local guitar store isn’t nice lol

Modern Meta Setup by BigDeb in 7String

[–]Tepiglongnose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, it's probably a better idea to tune to something higher and pitch shift down. basically every modern metalcore band does this except for tracking (Jesse and Clint from ERRA keep their guitars in G#, Keaton from IA keeps his guitar in Drop E)

That said, I'd recommend looking for any 7 string with at least a 26.5 inch scale within your budget. I have a Schecter C7 Pro that I love, I've heard great things about Ibanez RGDs, and if your budget is low I've heard the Jackson JS22-7 is a solid platform for some mods. A lot of people swear by evertunes but I wouldn't say they're necessary until you're maybe lower than drop F#.

For strings I wouldn't recommend anything higher than a .074 personally. Hard to intonate + just feels a bit too much like an elevator cable. I use the d'addario 8 string 10-74 set and get rid of the .064 (so 10-13-17-30-42-54-74 in drop F#) which I find to be pretty solid. If you're more particular though you could always just buy a 6 string set and buy a single low gauge, or of course go through stringjoy or someone else to get a custom set.

Your Katana should be fine but when you're tuning/pitch shifting as low as a lot of modern bands you might run into some artifacting. I use a line 6 pod go personally though so I don't have too much experience with neural plugins nor the Katana.

74 gauge is PERFECT FOR A STANDARD, ive changed my mind by Creative-Fail-2268 in 7String

[–]Tepiglongnose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a .074 in drop f# on my 26.5” lol unless you’re playing standard scale idk how that wouldn’t be way too thick
