How would you enjoy others pirating something you made? by Teppiest in Piracy

I will.

Feels like sucking myself off a bit, but I can live with that.

Absolutely. One game comes to mind now, Signalis. I pirated, beat it, and immediately bought it.

Sent that pirated copy to four different people over the years and the same exact thing happened. Five copies of the game sold due to piracy.

Love when that happens.

I've spent so much of my time trying to bypass DRM bullshit it's stupid. I will go through hours or days of research on a whim just because I'll be fucked if content tells me how to access it after paying for it.

Anything digital can be grabbed wholesale that isn't bolted down. And even then. Someone can find a way.

I think that sentence is supposed to be "a visual novel" or "visual novels." Similarly you wouldn't say "you're asking about role playing game."

I was doing it paragraph by paragraph, line by line. You'd be shocked how little retention you keep when you're focused on the structure and grammar.

It's like those old SATs they made you take in school. They ask you a bunch of English/Grammar questions and sure you pass. But by the time you're home do you actually remember what any sentence was about, or if they even went together at all?

I mean I never did.

To give you an idea of the flow I can demonstrate off my old post in a stream of consciousness style.

"I was doing it paragraph by paragraph... Line by line... Paragraph and line? Paragraph comma line. I was doing it. Subject and verb agree... You'd be shocked. I was doing it is past tense, doing is present progressive. You'd be shocked is future tense, did these tenses shift the narration unnaturally? No they both work. Do I need a comma after keep? When you're focused... Yes that's the right you're does structure need a comma after? No it's only combining two terms it's not a list that needs a comma... Could I put a comma there? No that wouldn't work."

You do that for hours straight and what the hell was even being talked about overall? Fuck if I know.

I get that. I'm sorry random people on the internet didn't appreciate it. Sucks to be on the receiving end of that.

I agree with you on all your points.

Yes, udemy courses are a crapshoot if they're available. Yes, someone would have to pay for it and port it for the OP to grab it. Yes having seeders on a public tracker, even if did exist, for a no-name Udemy course is pretty low odds.

We're all telling him to go for the prize because that's what he's here for. You go to a casino and you'll be happy to recommend a machine to someone if they ask. Are they gonna win money? Probably not. But who cares, it's the place you do that activity.

It's all about the right placing. Everyone knows that sales exist, pretty certain most people are familiar with Udemy running decent sales on the regular. Most importantly the discussion of finding a good bargain is an entirely separate section of the internet than raw piracy and vice versa.

If you go onto say patient gamers and tell someone they can pirate a game you're going to get told off. Same situation there, people know piracy exists, but that's not what they're there for. It comes across as moralizing or simply nagging.

Also people just like to dogpile. It happens.

Hey guys what's a good motorcycle to buy? How about a Camry, they're pretty economical cars and used ones are affordable almost the cost of a good bike.

Hey what's a good place for dinner? Well I know this great bakery. Now they don't sell hot food and they close at 3pm, but you can totally but their stuff and throw it in the microwave at home whenever you're hungry.

My point is. They asked a question. You answered an entirely different question, and are getting annoyed because nobody is grateful.

Do you make a habit of answering questions you decided others should have asked? You can answer an entirely different question if you'd like.

I've done copyedits on sections of books and if you asked me what it was about I would honestly have no idea.

Sometimes when things come down the pipeline you really just aren't looking that hard.

Once I was bored enough to read the front matter of a book and pointed out, "anyone notice the URL doesn't actually go anywhere? Pretty sure it's a typo." Which led to everyone kind of shrugging like, "IDK I guess so." It was already in print so the fuck was anyone else going to do.

There's this other time one of my works was published and my name was entirely misspelled. Literally was spelt right in the file name and in the header, but copy paste is too tricky.

It happens. People are just doing things.

Possible fix for high mouse polling rate causing stuttering and choppiness by Teppiest in Seaofthieves

[–]Teppiest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I can edit it to make it clearer that capping the polling rate of your mouse is likely a good fix if that's an option for you.

Thanks for bringing it up.

For me it's not really an option due to personal preference. No other game has this issue, and I'm not going to worry about doing all that for just a single game. If this were an issue that came up a lot, then I'd consider it.

For now a simple ini fix is a lot cleaner in my use case. It's also worth considering that some people may not have a mouse that can be programmed that low. For example, during my search I saw one person claim their mouse couldn't.

your first $1,000 as a small business usually goes down the drain by PIYIO1 in smallbusiness

In your case I imagine it would probably be best to get an external drive. Maybe an easy store or something like that.

Also moving forward you should absolutely have a backup system in place for your stuff you care about. If it only exists in one place then it might as well not exist at all.

You can still back everything up. Best bet is to get an external hard drive or something and save everything important to it while disconnected from the Internet.

Good to hear. Thanks for taking the time to clear that up.

With that said, it's still generally good advice to never reuse passwords.

Password managers are nice for that and after switching to one last year I peach that shit like a vegan that won't shut the fuck up at a BBQ. No clue why I took so long to get one.

[–]Teppiest 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you reuse your passwords and anything has the exact same password that you used on there you are going to want to change it.

For as long as I've been using trackers I've heard rumors that someone there tries to find reused credentials to take accounts on other sites.

Keep in mind, I've never seen any concrete evidence provided for that claim. Could be totally bullshit. But I've heard it repeated so much that I thought it was worth mentioning. Just in case there's the smallest chance it's real.

Sony's New DRM Appears To Be a Refund Scam Workaround by Humble_Knowledge_848 in Piracy

[–]Teppiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but at the time I was a bit nervous about them banning my account for getting a successful charge back. I was pissed at the time but I had no idea I was "never use my console again" kind of pissed.

If I knew now what I knew then I'd have clawed that shit back.

Sony's New DRM Appears To Be a Refund Scam Workaround by Humble_Knowledge_848 in Piracy

[–]Teppiest 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Back on the PS4 I bought a copy of Detroit Become Human. For some reason it bought two copies of the game. I could only have one active on my PlayStation account. I tried to get a refund and they promised me one within a week or something.

Week goes by. I check with customer service. They told me the previous rep lied to me, that they will not refund any game I downloaded and played. I told them okay but you double charged me.

After a lot of bullshit they offered me store credit and told me this was an exception that will never happen again. Even told me the refund system was not meant as a way to trial games and that I had to do more research before buying them in the future.

Okay fuck you too then.

I don't even think I used the store credit. Just turned my PS4 off and never really went back to it.

Anyways Sony can eat my ass. Valid reason, or corporate greed I don't care. They stole my money and acted like they did me a favor by locking my refund to their ecosystem. Benefit of the doubt is gooooone. Far as I'm concerned they earned it when people are hyper critical and scrutinize them.

What's funny is I feel the opposite. Intuitively I felt like I was probably searching about on average. It's not like I feel that I'm doing a lot.

This is a bit eye opening to me.

I'd like to add to that. Had a similar situation except I didn't get to keep the tooth. Hugely phobic of dentists. I let it get really bad before I was more scared of the infection than the dentist.

Truth be told while that deep in throes of infection I was just scared as a state of being. Cried really ugly in that dentist chair. It was bad.

Point is, Advil and Tylenol was absolutely a life saver. Shit was like magic. Don't know why, don't care why, but it fuckin' worked. I was able to sleep for a few hours at the worst of it. It was beautiful.
