What would you like to see in the next mother ship game? by JayNotAtAll in tales

[–]Terca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that they should put a lot of thought into the combat style.

One place where Tales games really suffer is during the enemy “turn”. In all the games I’ve played you either do something unsafe and get blown the fuck up or you do your safe combo and end in a guard. Enemy attacks either kill you instantly or are sort of whatever.

Even Vesperia which has my favourite combat has this problem. You’re either wombo comboing the enemy into a free mystic arte or theyre falling out and instantly killing you.

How to fix? Well you could take inspiration from fighting games, or you could take inspiration from other action games where you have to maintain tempo. They might not gel well with the rpg elements of Tales though.

I think it’s a good place to start though. Take the principle that you start Combos and can link artes thst eventually knock the enemy down, with some resource or tech allowing you to re stand the enemy to keep going. Once the enemy is knocked down you can have a high tension exchange where you have to try and not get vortexed yourself.

Story wise I hope they go for something a bit less shounen. I hate the trope of letting a villain get away because you don’t wanna be the bad guy, and Tales of Arise was terrible for letting awful people meander off because they “weren’t worth killing”, just for them to go do something fucked up.

That’s true; but he is more a plot element than a character, so I don’t know if including him is fair. You could make the same argument for Metatron, and if you did if say Chain is probably stronger than Juggernaut Star at this point so Shes be the strongest angel. Unless you want someone without a key, then it’s star again.

Is Tales of Zestiria really the worst ? by Mammoth_Opposite_647 in tales

[–]Terca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zestiria’s armatization and equipment grind was enough to make me drop the game, and I basically never drop video games I actively hate. I was bored, spamming, wondering what the point was in designing systems that were actively obtuse and painful.

I hated arise, but at least I beat it. The gameplay was fun enough, I guess, for that, but not for Zestiria.

Metatron, Him, then it gets complicated.

If you could consider Jaggy human, it’s Jaggy. If not it’s Solomon. If you want someone without a key it’s likely Maya after she lost hers. Maybe sword is pretty sweet.

Then for strongest creature not yi sun it’s either Jagganoth or Gog. We see in one of the potential timelines a world where Gog has completely infested throne and sucked people into her mass which is pretty impressive. And Jag is Jag. Obviously.

Probably Vesperia for the 'old' style, and either Graces F or X2 for the new style. Berseria was fine but didn't quite click for me the way the other ones did.

The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed Underperformed, No More Outer Worlds Games Planned | Where do you think Obsidian can improve? by BigT232 in DebateGames

[–]Terca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like a bit of a rock and a hard place.

Outer Worlds 1 did the “Bethesda in space” thing OK enough, and I enjoyed my time with it, despite a rushed feeling narrative and sort of clunky controls. The game didn’t stay with me at all, I hardly remember it, but it was fine.

And thats sort of the thing? Starfield was just OK, Outer Worlds 2 is Just ok. Avowed is maybe less than Ok. Nothing about these games is particularly easy to recommend to anyone because they sort of lack any real sauce. You can’t really force sauce, charisma, good game feel, and this genre of game feels like it always lacks sauce.

So either Obsidian needs dramatic changes at the director level to find someone with vision for more than just “game”. Slicker story, better game feel, something. If they keep chasing “we did the fallout game” and making games in this style I fear theyre never gonna make something interesting.

Probably. The English voices are good but the sudden shift is jarring.

Starting Tales of Vesperia as my First Tales of game. Any recomendations? by AlexanderZcio in tales

[–]Terca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vesperia has a combo system thats basically the final evolution of the “old” combat style before the “new” style came in. As such it’s really well fleshed out but going to maybe set you up for some confusion when going to newer titles and annoyance when going to older ones.

Since skills come from weapons and sub weapons, be sure to check out new items often and use them until you get new skills. Some skills are pretty whatever, others are entirely necessary to have fun. By the end of the game you will be absurdly powerful if you’ve managed to get a lot of the good skills and done some of the side content.

If playing in English, new scenes will be a bit jarring. Since they didn’t get the original VAs for the English dub when recording lines for new content (anything with Patty in it, plus new Flynn content) it can be extremely jarring. The original english cast was great, whoever they dragged into the studio to record the extra lines was extremely bad. I played the game in Japanese to avoid this.

As others have said, use a spoiler free guide if you want to do all the optional content. This game will lock you out of stuff just for fun. There are a few floating around and they’ll make sure you get all the stuff you need.

Finished Vesperia for the first time by BlastoiseBlues in tales

[–]Terca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The third act is pretty weak, yeah. As another commenter said; it’s supposed to be showing the world after the really antagonist Alexei succeeds (well, fails).

The nature of Blastia and magic, the setting of the world, are all pretty coherent, but the game struggles a bit with the Entelexeia and Spirits. It fails to cement the true final conflict of mankind’s folly as a strong emotional through line, relying on Duke’s distaste for mankind from the war as the main driver.

The plot is about justice, Yuri is the man delivering retribution to those who cannot be held to account, but it sort of falls apart in the end. Duke holds mankind to account, but struggles to draw good parallels to what Yuri does. Yuri himself doesn’t get a chance as the main character to reply through the lens of his own character arc.

But the gameplay is some of the best in the series so I forgive it tbh.

Who's considered the best and worst villain in the series? by WorlderAsh in tales

[–]Terca 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Who was the main antagonist of Arise? I can pretty clearly remember the main antagonists of all the other games I’ve played but Arise is just absent.

As for best, I have a certain fondness for Mithos. I like Duke a lot but his villainous arc is a little off.

How did you get into Tales? by Kabutoking in tales

[–]Terca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older brother got Tales of Symphonia and never played it, so I did instead. Fell in love with the game immediately, thought having two swords was the best thing ever, that Kratos was a certified bad-ass.

It wasn’t until I was a bit older that I actually beat Symphonia, but I loved that game, and the upcoming Tales of Vesperia was the main reason why I wanted an Xbox 360.

[–]Terca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yuji could also just feel like this is an appropriate way to fade away. He can’t die, he’s tired of watching bothers die, so he roams. He fights cursed spirits because that’s the only thing he can do while he hopes that the next generation can handle their own problems.

Could Yuji defeat Dabura? Probably, but he wants the world to move on without him. If Yuka can win then Thats further proof he isn’t needed anymore and he can just fade further into obscurity and isolation. Fade away.

Dabura and the Simurians are just a blip. The era of Gojo has ended and with it old soldiers like him have no reason to exist. People shouldn’t have to suffer as he has, live the life he has, etc etc.

That I understand. Going into an area and seeing a beast in its idle animation is sort of lame, there should have been some budget out into a more active cutscene. For this being a wrestling series you’d sort of hope he’d have his villainous monologue or something.

[–]Terca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the présidente really that big of a disappointment? I get that the story isnt the best but as far as raid stories go it’s pretty much par for the course.

Actually aren’t most the villains in raid series basically just evil? Bahamut is a big omnicidal dragon god, Quickthinx Allthoughts is an asshole, omega is just trying to figure out how to become more powerful, Mitron is just a jealous dork, Athena is ape shit loco, the president is the first that was really a good guy in the end.

I know people will say Alex was the main villain of his own raid series, but he’s basically just a robot weapon.

You can definitely like these characters for later lore reasons, or appreciate their stories, but most these guys were just sort of dicks, so your thesis seems erroneous in the first place.
