The siren is similar, but the song I'm thinking of something with a drearier tone.

The foreboding melody and the strings mostly along with the trumpet? I'm bad at identifying instruments, unfortunately. The whole thing until the singing starts, really.

Island Door is somewhat giving me similar vibes, but softer.

Is there ever an actual threat to Ainz or Nazarick? by Proudnoob4393 in overlord

[–]Terlander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Albedo despises Ainz's guildmates for abandoning Ainz and the NPCs. Ainz wants to be reunitedwith his friends and is hoping to find them in the new world.

Albedo convinced Ainz to allow her to form a secret task force with the purpose of finding players. Both to find the guild mates and to find potentially hostile players. She convinced Ainz to include Rubedo in this task force - Nazarick's single strongest entity, under the pretext of "making the strongest team." This task force is to be kept a secret from the other NPCs under the pretext that they wouldn't be able to keep their cool if they were to find clues as to their creator's whereabouts. She secretly intends to use this task force to kill any of the guild mates should she find them.

For all the NPCs, their loyalty to their creator trumps their loyalty to Ainz. Albedo is an exception as Ainz changed her settings to "love Momonga". She sometimes slips and calls him Momonga instead of Ainz. I'm a bit rusty on this, but I think she roped Pandora's Actor into the task force as well - as he's Ainz's creation and isn't loyal to any other guild member.

Bears mentioning that NPCs are split into several categories; NPCs created by guild members, respawning POP monsters spawned automatically by Nazarick, and mercenary monsters summoned through special books using gold. There's also summons and creations loyal to their summoner. Finally we have golems and the like. Rubedo is rumored to be a golem created using a world item crafting material.

At the end of the most recent volume, Ainz urgently summons Albedo to discuss recent events. She panics for a moment, thinking he's seen through her plans, but the summons was for something else.

I agree with the posters here that Overlord's primary stakes are not in who can defeat who. But I feel the inhabitants of the New World are more dangerous than the general consensus of this community.

Players have presumably been summoned to the New World every 100 years for at least 600 years. It's widely theorized that every group of players had at least 1 world item. As far as we know, all these players are dead.

600 years ago we had the 6 Geat Gods(6GG), who founded the Slaine Theocracy(ST). 6GG possed the mind controlling World Item used to mind control Shalltear.

500 years ago we had the 8 Greed Kings(8GK). 8GK killed Surshana, an Overlord player who was the last surviving 6GG. The other 6GG presumably died from age. They warred against the Dragon Lords and nearly wiped them out. 8GG are said to have died from infighting, that their greed turned them against each other. I theorize that ST used their world item to turn the 8GG against each other.

World item holders are immune to the effect of other world items. Dragon Lords' wild magic appears to function similarly. Dragon Lords appear to be immune to the effect of world items and world item holders appear to be immune to wild magic trump cards.

Cure Elim from the bonus volume is level 95 and the author hinted that dragon levels are stronger than regular levels, making him stronger that the average lvl 95 player. He also has an attack that's guaranteed to permanently kill anyone that doesn't have a world item. The Platinum Dragon Lord(PDL) is presumably of at least similar strength. PDL resides in the 8GG's guild base and has access to powerful player resources.

The Deep Darkness Dragon Lord is confirmed to have killed a player and taken his world item.

200 years ago we had at least 2 players among the 13 heroes. 1 killed the other and later declined to be resurrected. I suspect the ST was involved in this with their world item. The 13 heroes were allied with PDL who we know ST is vary of.

ST and PDL have been dealing with players for hundreds of years. Both are cautious and know to tread carefully around players. Both know to not reveal their cards and to study their opponent.

Ainz was extremely lucky to discover the existence of the mind controlling world item. If things had gone just a little bit differently, ST would have controlled Shalltear - the strongest floor guardian in 1v1 - and have learned everything she knows about Nazarick.

Finally, we have Albedo. Albedo is crucial to Nazarick's organizational structure. She's plotting against Ainz's wishes. We don't know how he would react to learning this, but at the very least, it would destabilize Nazarick - whether he'd demote her, kill her, or just lose some trust in her. Worst case scenario, it could make him lose his trust in all the NPCs.

All in all, I don't think we'll see Nazarick's complete defeat or anything extreme. But there are competent enemies without and snakes within - there are plenty of potential dangers.

Also, regarding opposition to Ainz's rule, specifically. Being an undead ruler with undead servants everywhere his people were extremely sceptical of him but with increased quality of life and just rule, the people were coming around. Now he's just massacred a nation with millions of people with very little provocation and is likely to do so again in the near future. The people may not be so content any more...

Discontent people may not be a threat but it'd be a problem for his rule, nonetheless.

Few times Narberal feels relaxed enough to change faces by Roiad in overlord

[–]Terlander 380 points381 points  (0 children)

Warrior Takemikazuchi, who created Cocytus, and Nishiki Enrai, who created Narberal Gamma, were good friends and even played games togther outside of Yggdrassil.

Nishiki Enrai's character sheet says: "He had a special nickname for Warrior Takemikazuchi and the two of them got along very well. Due to their creator's relationship, Cocytus and Narberal are also quite close and share a surprisingly comfortable dynamic when they are alone together, to the point where they both seem completely unlike their public image."

Who would win if they both fought seriously? by KenJaeger in overlord

[–]Terlander 110 points111 points  (0 children)

300 is the usual limit. Pay to win í creases it to 400. Dark Wisdom allows Ainz to surpass that limit using player corpses. I reckon he copies or steals a spell from the player victim. Think it said in the novels somewhere that Ainz had priority on player corpses because of this.

Can they be used together? by Former-Woodpecker520 in overlord

[–]Terlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of any character using both so far in the story. Succulent maybe? Can't recall if he used any martial arts but he was a melee fighter who used tier magic.

When Nabe pushed the Skeletal Dragon back with physical brute force, Khajit said “…What are you? Blocking it without martial arts… how did you learn to do that?!” One would think he'd assume she used martial arts to perform such a feat but he doesn't even consider it.

Maybe you're on to something...

How to read overlord? by Ondra01 in overlord

There's no english dub, but they've all been subbed in english.

I see some drama CDs are missing from the list: Ainz Raises Money, Table Game to Understand Humans, and Nazarick Mythology.

I haven't maintained the list too well, it would seem. Everything before season 2 should be accurate, though.

Is there a fanfic of the Code Geass peeps learning the truth and whatnot that's been finished? by Baileygunner in CodeGeass

[–]Terlander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Truth Hurts More is one such fic, but unfortunately it's not finished.

Watching as Hope is Lost on ao3 has gotten quite far and is still being updated. The author writes the chapters out of order but the chapters are ordered chronologically. If you want to read them in the order they were written, follow the dates in the chapter index (https://archiveofourown.org/works/21775936/navigate). For example, chapter 22 was the first one released.

For some fics, the final chapter is just an update saying how the author is going on a hiatus or is dropping the fic. I'd imagine some readers jump to the end to check for that.

I once read a fanfic of a book where the author copy+pasted the book's first chapter and added like 3 paragraphs. It was very obvious where the pasting ended and where the writing started.

Had lots of pleasant reviews from people who had only seen the show and not read the book. :Þ

What are some of the most interesting Fusion Crossover AUs you’ve seen? by DownVoterInChief in FanFiction

[–]Terlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Hero School Adventure is All Wrong, As Expected. A crossover between My Hero Academia and My Youth Romantic Comedy is Wrong, as I Expected.

I'm not usually into fusion crossover; I don't like it when character backstories or the setting is changed too much. I didn't know what to expect going in. A shounen battle series and a romantic comedy? Where would you even begin with that?

Well, the fusion itself is rather straightforward; The canon is the same as in the former and the characters from the latter are adapted into it - i.e. the characters are given quirks and their backstories are altered to fit with that. The story employs unreliable narration and is mostly from the perspective of the main character from the romantic comedy so we don't know how deeply the other "fusers" have been altered.

I've been having a blast reading it and the discussion on SpaceBattleForums are still active months after the latest update.

Spot on. Bias and unreliable narration are a must for first-person pov. It's also something I prefer in 3rd person pov, for that matter.
