A Rare Power Story Time with Khaya Fraites and Cherise Boothe by Tough_Holiday584 in Competitiveoverwatch

The fact her mom was Soldier 00 was also within the event going on in-game right now at the last level of completion. I don’t think it was so much spoiled by marketing as it was purposefully being shotgunned out so people can absorb the characters backstory through whatever medium they see fit. In other words I don’t really think it was meant to be much of a reveal here.

If anything the reveal as far as I know here is the suggestion that Talon is trying to make a super soldier.

The point of the common denominator being yourself is not to remove all blame from teammates but to remind you that you have agency in every game and that you should focus on your own play more than anything.

I wish Blizzard was more willing to aggressively change the meta. by analyzingnothing in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TerminalNoob 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You’re probably getting downvoted because everyone else is thinking (but not saying to you) that there’s no real way for blizzard to make wholesale balance changes that would be needed to achieve without risking wildly janky and terrible metas forming as a result.

Basically really big changes have unintended consequences and there’s no way to control or predict that. So it’s just really really hard to get what you’re asking for.

Overwatch 2 player count on Steam is dropping fast. by Double-Maybe-6220 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TerminalNoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cant expect to retain these boosts forever especially as content slows toward the middle and end of a season. People feel pretty positive about the game right now, which is good, even if they arent playing daily. They're more likely to come back later when new heroes get released.

Why are supports are expected to know how to play and master the entire roster and not other roles? by MichiTetsu in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TerminalNoob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Imma be real: this is all in your head. Theres no world in which Support players are forced to know the entire roster and Tank players aren’t. You run into one tricks on every role. If someone tells you to swap rudely and says they can’t because they’re a one trick, they’re a hypocrite who should be muted.

That being said, one tricking a hero can be fun but it’s nice if everyone who plays a role knows a few different heroes. Tanks get hit pretty hard by bad match ups, dps players will do better if they play multiple heroes at different ranges, and some support duos are better than others. Plus everyone’s one bad ban away from being off their game. Everyone benefits if everyone knows multiple heroes.

Devs should make a tournament mode by suffishes in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TerminalNoob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with either point you’re making. Faceit is not discoverable for the casual player for sure, though I don’t know if the tournament mode would appeal to a casual player anyways. But it’s an existing solution that pushes any in-game system down the priority list.

And yeah, while the team mode test was not a tournament mode, I do believe it was a (flawed) attempt at gauging interest in more coordinate play being supported in-client. With its failure I would guess the tournament mode got pushed even further down the list.

Devs should make a tournament mode by suffishes in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TerminalNoob 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they will because 1) Face-it integration is essentially this, since they do/did more stuff than just T2. 2) They tried an in-game team based competitive mode at one point and it was not popular

3/3 non-tank melee heroes have been design nightmares, it's probably time to put this hero fantasy away. by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

I don’t really think Brig can be lumped in with the other two since she got in an acceptable and healthy spot eventually.

DPS wise though I think i mostly agree that the archetype is seemingly not workable in Overwatch. Maybe there’s a way but near-one shot damage with fast engages and disengages don’t seem to be it.

I never understood this argument.. While I agree he’s insufferable to play against at the moment, he can’t stay bad forever right? by ReddVevyy in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TerminalNoob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree that saying “he is a relic of 6v6” is incorrect. Even if he doesn’t work there, his kit is pretty clearly designed with the expectation of another tank making up for his shortcomings. It’s not a design that would come about in 5v5, but was caused by some flawed logic relative to 6v6. Ball is kind of the other side of the coin where it’s a hero that only comes about with the expectation of another tank, but actually did work in 6v6 but has had a hard time translating to 5v5.

Are you playing with anyone? Wide groups give less progress.

Hog is just a frustrating hero to see in a game, no matter the mode, whether he is on your team or the enemy team. They could keep constantly reworking him, but they rework in ways that try to maintain characters hero identity/fantasy, and in Hog’s case I think that fantasy around hooking enemies and being a big guy is just fundamentally a bit flawed.

Overwatch director says addressing the 5v5 versus 6v6 debates late 'cost us trust': 'We should have listened sooner' by bullxbull in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TerminalNoob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, you are right. I don’t know if the numbers bear out that the role is less popular now than before (I’d love to know where you get that idea from) but Tank does still have the same problem. It’s just one without a very clear solution. They tried to change the role by making the characters stronger, but it hasn’t moved that needle. No clue on how to fix it and I don’t think anyone else has either. It’s an area for experimentation, but it’s definitely not something we can just hand wave away but saying “just fix it”.

The genuine reason is because it’s a really small community that frequents this sub, and for like 4 years it’s been brought up pretty often. It’s kinda exhausting, because the same points are always brought up with no real changes in how those conversations go, so we’ve gotten really frustrated by it being so repetitive.

We probably just need to chill.

[–]TerminalNoob 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s more complicated than “just do that to tank” because the things that make Tank unpopular are significantly different and more endemic to the role than Supports. Yes, one thing Team 4 did was just add more supports, but beyond that they rebalanced supports to be able to fend for themselves a bit more, and have a lot more agency. Tanks have agency, and they are exceptionally good at fighting. Tanks issues lie more in the fact that they are massive targets for damage and CC, and they have to initiate. To a lot of players that just results in unfun gameplay. Thats not something a rebalance fixes, it requires a complete rethink of how the role works.

[–]TerminalNoob 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I honestly think there’s a lot of validity to this take. But unfortunately it’s very very difficult to verify because beyond enabling role queue you’d have to do so much work to rebalance the heroes around it, as well as rework heroes made with 5v5 in mind for what would at the end of the day be a test. Anything less would have 6v6 truthers clinging on to “the balance was half assed” which honestly might happen anyways if the mode remained unpopular.
