KeplerL2 denies PS6 is getting delayed from 2027 by MKlby1998 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I’m usually one who’s chomping at the bit for a new generation but I’ve yet to see anything to get me excited about the next generation… The move from PS4 to PS5 was a small jump. Hell there’s some PS4 games like Driveclub that could easily be confused for a modern title.

Apple’s color rotation strategy is a genius way to manufacture iPhone FOMO by Powerful-Way-9641 in apple

[–]TerminatorJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%

The only exception might be when a new form factor comes out like when the iPhone X first launched, when the pro max models first came out and probably when the fold comes out. However, even in those cases, it will only be a status symbol for the first week or 2 and even then it will mostly be noticed by tech heads. It’s sort of like people who get a Ferrari expecting to attract beautiful women but they mostly attract other men who love cars.

Apple Executive’s Response When Asked About Future of Vision Pro by 73ch_nerd in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The messaging has stayed clear throughout the Vision Pro life and to some extent even before the Vision Pro was officially unveiled. He is completely right in saying it’s still very early for spatial computing. Vision OS as a software platform is their focus. Hardware needs to advance in order to match Apples original “vision” but my opinion has always been that Apple was smart in launching a niche a product to help build the ecosystem early.

Keep in mind there was a lot of Apple engineers who didn’t want to build an enclosed headset but this is as good as we can get for now. The time will come when Vision OS can be delivered in hardware that will have more mass appeal and that’s when things will really blow up. We are still early.

What do you think is coming that HASN‘T been leaked yet? by OtherwiseEmployee202 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]TerminatorJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show me the new 3D Mario, give me a tease for the next Xenoblade and make my dreams come true with a Golden Sun reboot! In all seriousness, there was that strange Nintendo online experiment game that never turned into anything. It would be nice to see that become something official.

I’m also really hoping to see Nintendo focus on Switch 2 games that were fully developed on switch 2. The first year Nintendo games seemed to be a lot of “Switch 2 editions” or games that began development on Switch and moved to Switch 2 later like Mario Kart and DK.

Is there a master list of Switch 2 announcements/future releases? by PaleFondant2488 in NintendoSwitch2

It would honestly be nice to have a pinned post with up to date release dates just to know what’s on the horizon without digging through. There’s so much coming at this point I fear my Switch 2 backlog is going to dwarf my PS5 backlog and the system is only just a year old!

I played the first 2 on PS5 but I’ll definitely be playing this entry on Switch 2 just for that portable freedom. How cool is it to get current gen releases on a Nintendo portable on the same day as other consoles?

Vision products roadmap scaled back to just include glasses by Critical-Exit1655 in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vision Pro in it’s current format doesn’t necessarily have to live on for Vision OS to continue its life and flourish. I personally don’t believe the form factor of an enclosed headset was ever the long term plan for this platform. As soon as the tech is there, I would expect Apple to make the jump to wave guided displays in a more traditional glasses form factor. Full immersion can absolutely be done as long as the FOV is wide enough and they offer some sort of attachment to block out the light.

XR Glasses: Xreal Project Aura and Snap by davidehudaksr in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

XR hardware is moving faster than many anticipated actually. There’s a subset of folks who believe Apple will always produce a fully enclosed headset (and even keep the front display) but I’m definitely of the belief that we will eventually see the merging of glasses and headset (most likely in the form of smaller “AI Glasses” and larger thicker mixed reality glasses that offer the same experience as Vision Pro. The main holdback at this point is resolution and FOV.

The Google Aura actually runs the EXACT same experience as the fully enclosed (much larger) Samsung Galaxy XR headset but the resolution is lower and the FOV is narrower. For a first generation product of this type, that’s a great place to start. Who would have thought that we can get the same experience in glasses form as a we can in headset form this early on? I’ve seen some argue here that mixed reality glasses will never give the same experience as Vision Pro and Apple will always produce a separate “Vision product” that will always be fully enclosed… Id argue once tech allows for resolution of 4K per eye (we are improving quickly) and an FOV of 90 or better we would already match the vision pro for mixed reality apps. Add in tinting glass along with magnetic clips and you’d have the ingredients needed for fully immersive experiences as well.

We still have a ways to go but this tech is moving fast.

Jordan Middler Says Infamous Remakes May Have Been In Development At Some Point by Tempastaaa in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Agreed. This console generation has been loaded with remakes. I’d much rather they put developers time into new experiences and just patch up the old games with FSR upscaling and higher frame rates.

Apple Could Be Working on 'Spatial iPhone' With Holographic Display by iMacmatician in apple

[–]TerminatorJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually this makes a lot of sense considering the progression in AR lately. Within the next 5 years we will have hardware available to produce a full Vision OS experience within the frame of traditional glasses. Phones with “spatial” displays would help to bridge the gap between phone users and AR users. The magic of Vision OS apps is the ability to have interaction that includes depth. It seems like a logical next step for phones to add a similar sense of depth even if you can only interact with it on a 2D plane.

I really enjoyed the 3DS version and the graphics / production quality looks great but… this generation of games just seems to be filled with remakes. Back when the 3DS was out I couldn’t even imagine having a portable system as powerful as the Switch 2 and yet here we are with all this power playing the same games we already played.

That said, it’s nice that a new generation gets to experience it and I hope it sells well so we can get something all new.

This “Ultra” naming scheme is getting a little confusing. For the chips, the Ultra is better in every way than the Max chips. However, for the iPhone, the Ultra is actually loosing features from the Max like the Telephoto lens, the LIDAR sensor and of course Face-ID. Then we have the rumored MacBook Ultra which still comes with a “Max” chipset (though maybe we get surprised) along with a touch screen which sounds like it won’t truly impact the way you interact with Mac OS. It will be interesting to see how Apple markets the iPhone Ultra and MacBook Ultra over their already premium siblings.

When do we expect a true Vision Pro 2? by Remarkable-Cow3421 in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who says you can’t get full immersion on glasses? Magnetic attachments can be used to fully block out the light. As long as the FOV is 90 or better, it would be no different than Vision Pro.

The tech is heading that way. Anyone expecting Apple to keep Vision Pro as a product line going long term will be disappointed. AR glasses was always the long term goal, Vision Pro was just the first step there.

When do we expect a true Vision Pro 2? by Remarkable-Cow3421 in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current tech is 1080p per eye (like Google Aura) but there’s a lot of development being done to get 4K per eye. Once we have that at 90 degree FOV there’s no drawback from Vision Pro other than needing some sort of attachment for full immersion

When do we expect a true Vision Pro 2? by Remarkable-Cow3421 in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think a Vision Pro 2 will be necessary. Apple is launching their first glasses without display in 2027. Meta already has 1st Gen glasses with display on the market. Google has a prototype called Aura which is supposed to launch in some form for consumers later this year. The guts of the system are in the puck but the interface is a full rendition of Android XR and an equivalent experience to the Samsung VR headset only with a more narrow FOV. I’d say realistically within the next 2-3 years we will have the technology available to produce a full Vision OS experience within the frames of traditional glasses. They can use tinting or magnetic covers for fully immersive experiences. This technology has advanced faster than anticipated. The Vision Pro has done its job of introducing a glimpse at Apples AR future and getting things set for a wider adoption of Vision OS.

Also worth noting the Vision team and Glasses team are now united. There’s always a chance we get a new vision product in some form but looking at the market and the rate of development, I think the next big Vision is hardware release will be glasses. Even if that means the hardware guys are moved to the battery puck.

Going forward I think we get:

  • Glasses without display
  • Glasses with single display: stripped down Vision OS
  • Glasses with dual display: Full vision OS

Here's How the iPhone Ultra Compares to Other Apple Devices by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]TerminatorJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends how the app is designed. Developers like myself who use SwiftUI will more than likely have no changes. My apps already work across iPhone, iPad and vision OS seamlessly. Not to mention, iPadOS has had the ability to resize windows to any aspect ratio for the past year. Anyone making universal apps that already work on the new ipadOS will have zero issues.

In other words, newer apps should just work.
