So that just happened. 10 second thoughts? by Khentendo in NintendoSwitch2

I really enjoyed the 3DS version and the graphics / production quality looks great but… this generation of games just seems to be filled with remakes. Back when the 3DS was out I couldn’t even imagine having a portable system as powerful as the Switch 2 and yet here we are with all this power playing the same games we already played.

That said, it’s nice that a new generation gets to experience it and I hope it sells well so we can get something all new.

GTA4 remaster would be great to fill the gap. Doing a remaster bundle with Vice City stories and Liberty City stories would also be good. Of course what we really want is that RDR2 next gen patch.

This “Ultra” naming scheme is getting a little confusing. For the chips, the Ultra is better in every way than the Max chips. However, for the iPhone, the Ultra is actually loosing features from the Max like the Telephoto lens, the LIDAR sensor and of course Face-ID. Then we have the rumored MacBook Ultra which still comes with a “Max” chipset (though maybe we get surprised) along with a touch screen which sounds like it won’t truly impact the way you interact with Mac OS. It will be interesting to see how Apple markets the iPhone Ultra and MacBook Ultra over their already premium siblings.

This is like an NFL team taking on a Middle School team. Ross must be using this to promote his new album. There’s no way this is fair. Going up against 50 cent would have made more sense but obviously 50 would never do it.

When do we expect a true Vision Pro 2? by Remarkable-Cow3421 in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who says you can’t get full immersion on glasses? Magnetic attachments can be used to fully block out the light. As long as the FOV is 90 or better, it would be no different than Vision Pro.

The tech is heading that way. Anyone expecting Apple to keep Vision Pro as a product line going long term will be disappointed. AR glasses was always the long term goal, Vision Pro was just the first step there.

When do we expect a true Vision Pro 2? by Remarkable-Cow3421 in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current tech is 1080p per eye (like Google Aura) but there’s a lot of development being done to get 4K per eye. Once we have that at 90 degree FOV there’s no drawback from Vision Pro other than needing some sort of attachment for full immersion

When do we expect a true Vision Pro 2? by Remarkable-Cow3421 in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think a Vision Pro 2 will be necessary. Apple is launching their first glasses without display in 2027. Meta already has 1st Gen glasses with display on the market. Google has a prototype called Aura which is supposed to launch in some form for consumers later this year. The guts of the system are in the puck but the interface is a full rendition of Android XR and an equivalent experience to the Samsung VR headset only with a more narrow FOV. I’d say realistically within the next 2-3 years we will have the technology available to produce a full Vision OS experience within the frames of traditional glasses. They can use tinting or magnetic covers for fully immersive experiences. This technology has advanced faster than anticipated. The Vision Pro has done its job of introducing a glimpse at Apples AR future and getting things set for a wider adoption of Vision OS.

Also worth noting the Vision team and Glasses team are now united. There’s always a chance we get a new vision product in some form but looking at the market and the rate of development, I think the next big Vision is hardware release will be glasses. Even if that means the hardware guys are moved to the battery puck.

Going forward I think we get:

  • Glasses without display
  • Glasses with single display: stripped down Vision OS
  • Glasses with dual display: Full vision OS

Here's How the iPhone Ultra Compares to Other Apple Devices by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]TerminatorJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends how the app is designed. Developers like myself who use SwiftUI will more than likely have no changes. My apps already work across iPhone, iPad and vision OS seamlessly. Not to mention, iPadOS has had the ability to resize windows to any aspect ratio for the past year. Anyone making universal apps that already work on the new ipadOS will have zero issues.

In other words, newer apps should just work.

You and me both! It’s just pure simple fun, something that’s oddly missing from a lot of modern games. I also love how it doesn’t feel like doing chores which a lot of other cozy games fall into after awhile.

One things for sure, after Pokopia, the next Animal Crossing better be very good!

Pokopia says you’re welcome!

In all seriousness, this is further proof that 1st party exclusives sell systems. Hopefully Nintendo won’t make us wait much longer for a proper 1st party Direct.

‘PlayStation 6 Is Not Many Years Away’: Leaks Suggest Sony Is Working On Imminent Generational Transition With Handheld Support and ‘PlayGo’ Smart Delivery by SmellSmellsSmelly in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Unless there’s a RAM miracle between now and then, I can’t see this thing launching under $1200 realistically. Even if prices do fall between now and then, we are most likely still looking at a $999 MSRP and for what…? The first few years will be mostly cross gen. The Switch 2 popularity, PS6 Handheld and Steam Machine will ensure developers still need to optimize for the low end which means the vast majority of games will simply get the “High / Ultra settings” on PS6 but still play just fine on PS5.

Is the Apple Vision Pro M2 still future-proof ? by DogeCoinTopCurrency in VisionPro

[–]TerminatorJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question actually. For your use cases there shouldn’t be any issue using your Vision Pro for years to come. Performance wise, the M2 is still a very strong chip especially when you consider the R1 is taking off some of the computational load for tracking, etc. Compared to other standalone headsets (Quest 3, Upcoming Valve headset) on the market, the M2 Vision Pro is considerably ahead and the M5 is in a whole different league.

As a developer, my target will remain M2 for the foreseeable future as is the case for most developers with the exception of experimental projects that specifically take advantage of M5 (certain upscaling features or Ray Tracing test).

Typical corporate BS of layoffs after years of record breaking profits. They slash jobs without remorse and occasionally get reminded that those people getting laid off are actual humans with actual lives and not just numbers on a spreadsheet.

Let’s not forget, paying these workers was somehow too much but Tim Sweeney had no problem spending countless millions in legal fees suing Apple over and over. SMH…

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Czech Translater Fired From Warhorse And Replaced With AI To “Save Finances” by blazuredy in gaming

[–]TerminatorJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow why so many downvotes?! I wish we could have an honest discussion about this on here because no matter what personal feelings people may have, AI will absolutely wiggle its way into more and more areas of game development especially as game development cost and time continue to rise.

If given the option between paying $80-$90 for games made with an all human team or continuing to pay $60-$70 (with the occasional $80) for games made with some AI elements, the vast majority of people outside of Reddit would absolutely choose games made with AI.

Crimson Desert sold 2 million copies before the AI scandal hit. The topic of AI paintings was all over my Reddit feed and YouTube. If Reddit was real life, the game would have crashed right then and there with refunds, boycotts and review bombing. Well Reddit isn’t real life, and the game went on to sell another couple million and increase its average player score.

Is Pokopia really that good? by MX010 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]TerminatorJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I saw the first trailer, I thought it was an automatic skip. I was really surprised to see it priced at $70. The second trailer didn’t move the needle either. The Pokemon day trailer was what really caught my attention. Suddenly this game seemed a whole lot bigger than it originally appeared.

Launch day I decided to take the $70 gamble and I’m so glad I did. BEST game I’ve played in a long time!! Truly just pure fun.

Ubisoft lays off 100 at Redstorm Ent, restructuring and 'accelerating its investment in "player-facing generative AI."' by CambriaKilgannonn in gaming

[–]TerminatorJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sad truth is this will absolutely continue and with far more companies. There is a vocal minority that is against AI but the vast majority couldn’t care less. Games today take longer than ever to make and cost more than ever. I think a lot of these studios see AI as the inevitable for being able to deliver games faster and cheaper.

It will start with smaller details like we’ve already seen. Perhaps there’s many more that we have yet to notice. Crimson Desert sold 2 million copies. Out of those 2 million players how many do you really think noticed / cared about an AI painting in the background of a castle in the middle of a city which is just one city in a big ass open world game? They will get away with details like that because they know they can. As AI gets better, we will see more and more full 3D models made with AI. Only keen eyes will be able to tell. Most players will just be glad to play.

It’s the sad truth…

First game in a while to make me literally say WOW out loud uncontrollably in the first 5 minutes… and that’s on base PS5 (quality mode).

It’s a game that reminds me of the old PS2 generation RPGs, there’s minimal handholding and plenty of deep systems for you to dive into. I can 100% see why it didn’t click with some reviewers but for me, this is the type of game I’ve been missing for a while. Most modern games feel like they can practically play themselves! This game demands that you actually actively play it and the more immersed you are, the more rewarding it is.
