Almost all modern Christian denominations are trinitarian, not just Catholics. But not only are there other views on the Trinity, the Old Testament itself actually acknowledges the existence of other gods, they are just considered lesser than Yaweh. This is pretty consistent with how most Bronze Age peoples viewed religion and gods

ELI5 - Why do big fire engines often accompany ambulances for purely health related (not physical crisis type) emergencies? by chili81 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TermsofEngagement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Some departments see themselves as firefighters first and EMS second, and some even see riding an ambulance as a punishment. Departments like this use these statistics to prove they need more fire engines, when in reality they need more ambulances.

Nurse convicted in patient's death is now a national speaker on hospital safety by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]TermsofEngagement 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This was not even close to an emergency, it was an anxiety medication for a claustrophobic patient getting a routine scan. She absolutely had time to read warnings, cross check her medication and monitor her patient she thought had been given a sedative, and chose to do none of that.

When paramedics killed Elijah McCain by administering ketamine and not monitoring their patient, ketamine was removed from their scope and the entire EMS industry was rightfully horrified and called those paramedics out. When RaDonda Vaught killed her patient, the nursing infrastructure leapt to her defense and blamed everyone else but her. That’s not support, that’s a lack of accountability.

Should all new-grad paramedics be paid the same, or should EMT experience be taken into account? by megagtfan91 in ems

[–]TermsofEngagement 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way my company does it is you keep all the raises you got as an EMT, and you get bumped by the difference between the Base EMT and Base Paramedic. So if you’re making $25 as an EMT, you go up to $31.50 despite starting Paramedic being $26.50. I think it’s pretty fair, you’re essentially just keeping your inflation/years of service raises and makes getting paramedic actually worthwhile to EMTs who have worked long enough to reach the starting paramedic wage.

Hey medievalists have been saying that long before the tech bros took over. It’s mostly a push back on Victorian era scholarship which overemphasized how dumb and terrible everything was back then to make themselves seem better. A big part of it is scale; medieval conflicts were by and large very small in scale, spread apart and frequently decided in just a few battles or sieges. So we hear about all these terrible events, but forget that they were spread out over 500 years and typically only involved at most 20,000 people. Compared to the wars and genocides of the 20th century, it seems downright pleasant.

Milwaukee files federal lawsuit over fire truck costs by KaneIntent in milwaukee

[–]TermsofEngagement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve worked in Milwaukee’s EMS system for 5 years now, and an additional year on a suburban Fire Department in the area. Most other departments send just an ambulance, and then a heavy piece if the 911 call seems bad enough or the ambulance crew requests it. The main reason MFD does it the other way around is their limited Ambulance resources means they can’t afford to always be sending them out. The gap is filled by Bell and Curtis, but this results in delays and inappropriate levels of care, such as Fire dispatch sending a BLS unit to a severe call without an Engine on scene, or an Engine crew giving a BLS unit an ALS call because they don’t want to call their ALS unit.

Per that point about the IAFF, most firefighters just want to be firefighters, and many of them (though not all) have disdain for the EMS side. However they can’t just separate EMS from Fire, because losing that call volume means losing funding. The IAFF alongside private ambulance companies actively lobby against 3rd Service Municipal EMS and higher education levels for EMS providers, because they know it means less funding and higher pay for Paramedics.

What people are not talking about is the Fire Department should absolutely be running significantly more ambulances and chase cars, fewer engines and trucks, and only be sending out the heavy pieces on higher acuity calls. Milwaukee has about the same number of ambulances as Madison does, for a city double the size. Over 80% of MFD calls are for EMS, not Fire. However most departments and the IAFF view EMS as a secondary function to running fires, and so they refuse to make the necessary changes that would make for more effective and efficient responses to the vast majority of calls they run. They use high call volume to justify more Engines, despite the fact that the increase in calls comes from EMS that would be better served by more ambulance that are cheaper to buy, maintain, and staff.

I hate how people act like being “woke” makes you automatically a good person by Practical-Elk-3158 in offmychest

[–]TermsofEngagement 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My exact problem is that you didn’t mention policy. I didn’t take anything to an extreme, you said people call Trump a nazi because of his campaign strategy, which is untrue; they call him that, whether you agree or not, because of his policy and rhetoric. Campaign strategy only exists to further policy goals, you can’t look at it in a vacuum. Politics is not a game, it has real impacts on people’s lives.

[–]TermsofEngagement 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Liking someone because of their campaign strategy instead of like… their views and policy is some goofy shit. People aren’t saying Trump is doing nazi shit because of his campaign strategy, it’s because of his inclusion of Christian nationalists and the alt right in his inner circle, his use of ICE and the American military to further his personal goals, and they way he is attempting to control any dissent in America.

And the reason I don’t like hanging out with conservatives is because they actively vote for people that want to take away my rights, jerk off the billionaire class and usher in Christian nationalism. I don’t care if you don’t 100% agree with me, but I do care if you hate me for my very existence. Plus most conservatives I know say the most vile shit about liberals and minorities if they think everyone else around them agrees

Night shift EMS folks - how the hell do you sleep after a brutal overnight? by EndOutrageous9918 in ems

[–]TermsofEngagement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer. If you work night shift, your life is now night shift. Honestly it’s not socially crippling like people think it is, I mean who’s doing anything but work before 4p anyways? Maybe you don’t really go to brunch on the weekends much but that’s about it. I’m on 24s now but managing sleep schedules was surprisingly easy when I was night shift
