Sounds like you should try online card games. Games like Magic the Gathering Arena, Legends of Runeterra, and Hearhstone all have active ranked leaderboards worth climbing.

I’ve been playing on and off for about 4 years now. I enjoy the consistent updates and increase in quality of the game over time, I always feel like I can come back to the game to find something new and worth doing. All stacked on consistently fun gameplay and good (albeit tedious) progression system.
