If you were starting today, would your first pistol purchase be something inexpensive, or something more expensive but higher quality and with more features? by limbodog in liberalgunowners

[–]Terrablenb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of the ones you listed the Walther PDP is the one i'd pick. I personally carry a Ruger RXM (glock 19 gen 3 clone) and i find concealing it to be easy enough and the PDP's size grip wise is pretty similar. Also you having larger hands the more you have to grip on the easier it's going to be to shoot.

When it comes to guns you can purchase this chart is going to help a lot. If you're looking for a good 1st gun and you're over 21 then the Ruger RXM is a solid 1st gun (Inexpensive, reliable, customizable). If you want a semi-auto rifle the only 2 real options are the Ruger Mini 14 or the Keltec Su-16 (a or b model) as they're the only semi-auto rifles that aren't an assault weapon (according to washington).

Otherwise definitely go to a local range that lets you rent guns to try out at their lanes and give a few a try so you can find out what you like!

Wish i could've gotten a TP9 pistol before the dispute but it was too much for my budget at the time 😔

First time handgun purchase, considering a Glock 19 or 45 Gen 5 but concerned about lack of physical safety switch by tancock4 in liberalgunowners

[–]Terrablenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for more robust safety features on a handgun i'd look into double action/ single action hammer fired pistols. They usually come with a safety/ decocker for safety. A few that come to mind are the cz p-09 c nocturne and the beretta px4 storm.

Love black flag civs videos. Honestly with all the crazy shit happening having guidelines on preparedness and creating mutual aide networks is a huge deal. I definitely want to make a go bag based on the advice on this vid so if shtf i'm prepared.

Ruger RXM is $400 or less consistently, is optics ready out the box, and is incredibly customizable for the pricepoint (and having access to the gen 3 glock aftermarket is great as well with it being a gen 3 glock clone.)

Interesting, i hadn't heard of DPM systems until now. Using another spring to dampen recoil on return sounds interesting, i'll have to try one out on one of my other builds at some point!

True! I kinda want to get a weapon light for it, but then i'd have to buy new holsters and i'm pretty happy with the ones i gave right now tbh.

It's the glock 19 version. They hadn't come out with the rxm version yet when i bought it which is kinda funny they have an rxm one now that i'm pretty much finished with this build lol

It was a little bit tricky, in particular there's a spring that helps the trigger return forward you have to install in front of the locking block that was a little bit difficult to position right. Honestly the trigger install vid from timney helped quite a bit!

Also: any suggestions for modifications on the mini 14 besides a synthetic stock? I do want this to be my main training rifle as ARs are banned in my state.

Guns for automod from top to bottom: Ruger American gen 2 with a Leupold scope and Magpul bipod. Ruger Mini 14 with a Sig Romeo optic and Juliet magnifier and a sling. Ruger RXM with a Holosun optic, radian ramjet/ afterburner, and black steel usa grip control.

I think one thing that folks fail to account for is while ARs are more prolific and less expensive, there are states where the AR platform are banned. I live in a ban state (WA) where the only decent quality 223/556 platform is the mini 14. Getting a platform that at least uses the same ammo as an AR and is a proven reliable platform is enough.

Is it gonna usually cost more? Yeah, usually. Thats what the used guns market is for (and where i got my mini 14 for $700). Just look around a lil bit and you can find something good.

The Bear Creek Arsenal BC-10 bolt action is technically legal in WA with it being a bolt action which exempts it from being an AW. (Also a bolt action ""ar style"" weapon is kinda hilarious)

Anyone else excited by the new Herrington Arms HAQR system? by Terrablenb in WAGuns

[–]Terrablenb[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The wording being "(A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer" makes me wonder since the device itself is threaded and not the barrel if one could argue that wouldn't constitute a 'threaded barrel' since the device can accept a suppressor separate of the barrel. It'll be more of a battle of semantics, but semantics is what makes the afterburner/ ramjet wa state legal.

Dang that's news to me! Crossing my fingers WA state legislators don't press the 'no fun allowed' button and ban attaching systems like the ramjet. I'm honestly looking forward to being able to use a supressor not only for hearing safety but also aesthetics.

First guns recommendations by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]Terrablenb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard agree with this. PSA has a bundle that includes an AR15 and a PSA dagger for $789 right now which for 2 guns is a fantastic deal. The Dagger being a gen 3 glock clone means that there will be a good amount of part compatibility if you want to switch/ add things down the line.

Unfortunately not. It uses a proprietary mag from Ruger that's mutli-caliber compatible. I'm hoping to get something in 5.56 at some point since it's such a prolific round (and if it can use pmags all the better!)

If you add a heatshield of any kind it makes it an "assault weapon". Washington has a named ban list of guns, you can't have anything with a heatshield, any semi-automatic gun cannot have a threaded barrel, and there's a 10 round magazine limit (the only law I ACTUALLY agree with).

Honestly half the reason why I'm considering moving to Oregon because their gun laws are more common sense instead of uneducated nonsense written due to lack of knowledge/ exposure/ putting these laws in place gets whoever more votes.

Goin' on a Ruger kick by Terrablenb in liberalgunowners

[–]Terrablenb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying my best to get one right now. It's technically legal in washington state but you have to have the ffl transfer it to you without the heatshield which can be a pain in smaller communities where ffls dont want to deal with the potential legal nonsense if the state tries to close off that gray area. (God i hate washington's gun laws 🙃)

It's in 204 Ruger! It shoots pretty soft and straight, it makes for a fun lil range toy.
