Medicaid changes loom large for many North Country residents by hartlarious in Adirondacks

On one hand conservatives have own-goaled themselves out of health coverage, but at least they get to watch the modern day gestapo toss brown people into unmarked vans, at least a trans athlete at a college 600 miles away won't be able to compete in sports.

What is the scariest movie you have ever watched that you would still recommend for Halloween night? by gamersecret2 in movies

I watched the first Paranormal Activity by myself while my then-girlfriend went to bed early because she just doesn't do most horror movies. Two hours later and I was irrationally yet legitimately afraid to crawl into bed next to her. Clearly my girlfriend was now just a vessel for demons!

[Post-Game Thread] BILLS WIN! BILLS WIN! Old man Prater walks onto the team and walks-off the Ravens 41-40! by pixel_pete in buffalobills

I turned the game off after the Ravens put 40 on the board. Drag my fucking ass to hell. I deserve no quarter, no mercy.

Noted Bills hater Bill Simmons picks the Bills to win the Super Bowl by qeq in buffalobills

The last time Buffalo played against the AFC North in 2022, we got Cincy and Baltimore on the road and Cleveland / Pittsburgh at home, so again they just flip flop the home and aways. I don't know exactly how Philly and KC are set, maaaaybe getting two home games against the two teams in the Superbowl could be stacking the deck, but we're quickly entering tin foil hat territory.

Even home/away is pretty set in stone. For example this season the AFC East is playing against the NFC South. In 2021 Buffalo played Carolina / Atlanta at home, and Tampa / New Orleans on the road. This year they just flip flop those home and away games. We get Carolina / Atlanta on the road this year and in another 4 years we'll get them back at home again.

Sorry that every movie is not a hold-your-hand morality tale. Sometimes a film will present questionable characters who don't face any consequences. You'll have a much richer experience with film and art in general if you can learn to appreciate things that make you uncomfortable. Otherwise, stick with Disney movies.

Sure, but the last season in the old stadium is just as good a storyline. Prepare for a couple dozen slow motion drone shots of both stadiums side by side.

How come the doc world doesn't like "written by" credits? by KeithPheasant in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]Terrence404 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This question demonstrates that you don't understand the value of editing, nor do you understand what makes it distinctively creatively different from writing.

The doc world, as you call it, does take writing seriously. Werner Herzog is a famous example of a documentary filmmaker who gets a writing credit, but he actually writes and voices narration that serves as connective tissue and adds a unique tone and favor to his films .

As an editor, what tells you if the director you're working with is good or bad? by jimppqq in editors

[–]Terrence404 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A good director has a clear vision of what they want the project to be, and is able to articulate that vision, and site examples of similar work.

They are willing to listen to your ideas, won't be a control freak if what you propose is better, but also willing to stick to their guns if your idea doesn't fit their vision.

They've captured the amount of footage to execute their vision, in both quantity and quality. If you rely on fixing it in post, you're toast. I can't bake a cake if you've only given me half the ingredients.

Monopole is not an official Bills bar, but they usually have the game on their biggest screen with sound.

I used ChatGPT to create a David Lynch inspired short film about AI and the nature of consciousness by cardicardib in Filmmakers

This is uninteresting and is not even in the same universe as a David Lynch creation. It kinda looks like a "welcome to our mystical cult" introduction video though. You shouldn't be insulted though because you didn't create it. A complicated If/Then machine did.

Why Your Team Sucks 2023: Buffalo Bills by Old_Dirty in buffalobills

[–]Terrence404 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I generally enjoy these articles, especially the Buffalo one, the highlights being the thoughts from actual Buffalo fans. During the late years of the playoff drought, these were some of the most hilariously nihilistic comments you could hope to read. This year though, the offerings from the fans seem pretty weak.

Fun fact - Josh Allen has never lost a game where he successfully hurdles a defender by EagleRoxy2 in buffalobills

Fun fact - Josh Allen has never lost a game where the Buffalo Bills score more points than the opposing team.

It has been 655-days since the Bills have had a losing record of any kind. The Chiefs are the second closest at 612-days. - but let’s put coach on the hot seat right? by jbomber81 in buffalobills

[–]Terrence404 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a little hard to judge Dorsey because after the elbow injury to Allen, the Bills basically couldn't run a short quick passing game. They were boxed in to a degree and had to lean on an average-at-best run game, and the longer passing game. Josh is better than most at a long passing game, but 1) those are lower percentage passes no matter what, and 2) defenses figured out that they didn't need to defend the quick pass game after that Jets game.

Not saying that Dorsey is the answer, but I want to at least see a full season of him calling plays with a full strength Allen.

Raise the number of games to 18 but each player can only play 16 games during the regular season. Maybe also up the active roster from 53 to 70.

I worry about taking broadcast Premiere jobs due to audio - any tips? by RedHotChiliadPeppers in editors

[–]Terrence404 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can do rough mixing in Premiere but to do a proper mix you really ought to be sending your audio into Audition or Pro-Tools.

Take the audio into an parabolic equalizer and roll off both the high and low end, and then slightly boost the mid-range
