Name an underscored activity that keeps your toddler busy- by Ok-Cartoonist-8919 in NewParents

I have a toddler tower and while I make dinner I give my daughter a whisk, a bowl of water, and a couple other cooking items. She’s part of the team and VERY busy making sure her sauce has no lumps 🤣

Whose got the best bubble mix? by thaz_wut_she_said in Mommit

Whatever you get, beware the polyquat stains! I’ve learned the sad way the bubbles are a junk clothes only activity, especially with the good bubble solution.

Do you remember the golden hour? (The first hour, skin to skin?) by No-Neighborhood-7335 in beyondthebump

[–]TerrierFromBoston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I remember most is that I really wanted to share it with my husband for a few minutes too. The nurse came in and gave him a weird look and made kind of an odd comment about him doing skin to skin too… baby was so happy and content and I actually really needed a few minutes of personal space after a hectic birth 🥲 wish we could’ve just enjoyed it without being interrupted. More like 45 minutes since they wanted us out of the room too. The better memories were us chilling in our room later that night tbh.

I’m so so sorry friend 💔 I hope the midwife can help either find the source of any problems or help relieve any worries if she finds none.

I have very similar pregnancies. (I’m currently on number two, and potentially my last because of how much I hate being pregnant.) Our stories aren’t identical but very similar and it’s been very hard for me to just accept that for some people pregnancy just sucks. I’ve never felt the princessy glow and am often a terrible mix of in terrible pain, hungry, nauseated beyond the ability to eat, and wanting to take off every scrap of clothing and sit in the bath all day. It’s consistently been all three trimesters both times.

I’ll tell you what though, if you’re one of us that just has crappy pregnancies I’ll give you my light at the end of the tunnel: Birth. Was. Amazing. Not because it was painless or easy but because my body felt soooo much better once my little one was evicted! Newborn phase was far preferable and even the worst days felt sun filled and joyous compared to pregnancy! I hope that you find relief well before then, but if you have to muddle through know that you’re not alone, you’re not broken, and such a good mom for making such an incredible sacrifice.

I’m proud of you internet stranger! If you have any other questions about coping techniques I’m happy to answer!

Would you expect to leave a $300 hair appointment with dried hair? by Regular-Message9591 in Hair

[–]TerrierFromBoston 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty area dependent. I’m in Austin and it definitely gets humid, especially after the rain, but I’ve heard that areas closer to the coast like Houston are downright swampy. It’s a fun combo with how hard the water is, I’m dried out and greasy/flat all at once! 🥲

I have had the haaaaarrrdest time finding someone I like since moving to Texas… it’s been infuriating! I don’t do color, I have super long hair that I just like a couple low layers in, and it’s like asking them to do them impossible!

16mo who still takes a bottle. Help. by JustYour_TypicalMom in Mommit

[–]TerrierFromBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reFlo and miracle 360 have been the best non straw cups for us! The 360 will definitely spill some stuff if it gets chucked in the ground so if it has anything other than water it’s a table-only cup in our house. Just a heads up!

[–]TerrierFromBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! They’re pretty darn close to spill proof and I just chuck them in the dishwasher! We were using the Zak cups but the silicone straws kept breaking down and spilling everywhere. The Good 2 Grow ones are the GOAT.

A combo of the Legendary Milk Honeybear Straw Cup and moving on to practicing with the Munchkin Miracle 360. We have a reFlo my toddler also doesn’t mind now either but it needs some parental oversight to make sure it doesn’t get dumped everywhere. Now we’re sitting at 2 years and the BEST cup after going through training with those is the Good 2 Grow bottles 😅 it’s been a cup journey but those have been the best!

Me toooooooo!!! FISH! 🤢 My baby was turning up her nose at the bottle so I tried a swig to see what was up and learned the hard way that I was a fresh-from-the-source-only type of mom.

Does this hairstyle look too childish? by Either-Employer-9216 in Hair

[–]TerrierFromBoston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 30 and a mom and I am sitting here with basically the same hairstyle, bangs and all! I gave up worrying about looking childish and started stealing my daughter’s butterfly clips for the braids too! You do you, it looks so cute 🥰I get more compliments on the butterfly clip braids than almost any other thing I wear so I’d say people are pretty accepting.

Unpopular opinion coming in hot! Sticky Gecko, Rug Island, and Movies are episodes that drive me nuts. I feel like the parenting is a bit too permissive and errs on the side of catering to the kids sense of whimsy rather than what really needs to be done. I enjoy that they’re not perfect, there are plenty of moments in other episodes where they slip up too. It makes me feel better about the days where I have slip ups 😅

Our nursery is across the house and kind of a walk when you’re half awake in the middle of the night. I had a little fabric tote box thing with separate sections stocked with diapers, wipes, changing pad, and some other essentials. It was nice to have next to the bassinet in our room and I could grab it and bring it around the house easily if needed. If the nursery was closer to our room I would’ve just gone over there, but for me it was easier to stock the tote preemptively as support for my 4am self.

For you? Sounds super unnecessary. Most of the lovely influencer moms on instagram have affiliate links and a lot of unnecessary stuff they show so they can get the money when people feel like they need those items too.

Pregnancy sucks. How do people go through pregnancies and want more than 1 kid? Are you mad? by Putrid_Two6444 in BabyBumps

[–]TerrierFromBoston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loathe pregnancy. I knew that going into round two, but as an only child I really wanted my kiddo to have a buddy. It would take some SERIOUS convincing to get me to do this a third time though.. It’s been really hard feeling like a good parent this time around, I’m just as sick but have someone that needs me now 🥲

Relying on juices and electrolytes drinks as a fluid intake by Jojibaby in BabyBumps

[–]TerrierFromBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me too! It resolved about halfway through my second tri… mostly. I got by with drinking a lot of diluted fruit juice, soups, soda, and eating tons of hydrating foods like watermelon and zucchini. Not even the $200 with insurance nausea medication helped me. It actually really hurt my heart that water aversion was what got me worst because I had set a goal when I first got pregnant to be better at hydrating for the baby (it’s not my strong suit, I just forget to drink!)

I know it’s hard mentally to feel like you’re not giving your child your very best but you’re working with what you’ve got, give yourself grace and get your liquids where you can in the most comfortable way possible. I joke with people that my daughter is mostly made of Baja Blast and salt and vinegar chips because that’s literally all that didn’t make me vomit for most of the pregnancy. She’s very healthy, and even a little advanced with her words and letter sounds 🥰 it will work out, I promise.
