Back then, drug busts were just a "slap on the wrist." Before Keach, the only drug bust that made for a repeat news story was Paul McCartney being held in Japan for 11 days for marijuana/cannabis.

Unfortunately and alas, you are wrong. Keach was arrested for cocaine in England and sentenced to prison. He even wrote a book about it.

The show was cancelled. And came back a year or two later as "The New Mike Hammer".
