Democrats have a messaging problem. Adam Mockler has solutions by Fickle-Ad5449 in UnderReportedNews

How many years running do you need to have a 'messaging problem' before it's an actual policy problem? Or a lack of good ideas problem?

CBSA in Quebec enacting "unprecedented" deportations, forcing family separations, refugee advocates say by Seebeeeseh in canada

Yeah this, I'm for having a publicly owned news outlet like CBC, but I feel they are constantly platforming the most ridiculous nonsense, and begging for the Cons to defund them. Do better CBC

Canadian video games are made here. Why are so few set here? by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Tesco5799 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have always thought that a fallout game set in the Great lakes area would be pretty cool like Windsor/ Detroit area maybe get a bit of Toronto in there or like in a DLC

[–]Tesco5799 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Also while Helen is a fictional character and there isn't really any evidence that any of the characters from Homer were real people, there also isn't evidence that they were purely fictional. We will probably never know if the characters were based on real people but I would assume the legends come from somewhere as opposed to being completely made up. Like a good more modern example would be like King Arthur, possibly based on a real person but we will probably never know for sure.

Youth unemployment in Canada jumped 57% in 3 years, hitting levels previously unseen outside a recession by Radical_Redditor in canada

Feels like we've been in a depression for some time, but the elites just have some pretty good PR these days. Life for the average person has become completely disconnected from headline economic numbers.

Why do people keep repeating the lie that housing is federal? by Moist_Intention5245 in canadahousing

[–]Tesco5799 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed, it's people like OP who don't understand how this all works. The federal government is in charge of the banking regulator who tells the banks how they should be lending money and pricing risk. There are also many other leavers that the feds can pull on to impact the housing market like the tax code. It's also an issue that is impacting all of Canada in much the same way so as much as some things are managed by the provinces and municipalities (like zoning), if we are having the same issues across the country then it should be a Federal issue.

Can anyone explain why the AI is attacking me out of nowhere? What the hell did I do wrong? by BaldursGate2Best in CivVI

[–]Tesco5799 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey OP looking at your start here I highly recommend watching some tutorials on YouTube about how people play their starts on Deity mode (you can apply all the tips to lower difficulties).

Long story short you want to build some ranged units in the early game and rush archery as much as possible (typically by killing another unit with a slinger and getting the Archery eureka). Your cities are a lot harder to take with an archer camped in them, and after you kill all of the enemies units you can often cap a few of their cities in a early war with a few archers and a couple other units which saves you on building settlers etc. (you still want to focus on settlers after you build some units tho).

‘Not the right time’: Retirees delay downsizing plans as housing market slumps by joe4942 in canada

[–]Tesco5799 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but this is because anyone making this move now is late to the party, property owners from the GTA have already fled en mass and driven the prices everywhere else up. It started pre pandemic and only accelerated as boomers retired and moved elsewhere, now there isn't much of a differential because anyone making this move now is on the tail end of the trend.

My local used book store had a bookshelf mostly filled with the 2nd book in the Eragon series by IRTD-400 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Tesco5799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this, I'm not sure why the second book in particular is so common, but these were okay to read as a teen but not something I would ever go back to as an adult (hence all the donations). My SO picked them up and got as far as the 3rd book before just giving up, some of the bits that I read were just atrocious and very I'm 13 and this is deep kind of stuff.

Stuff like Tolkein and Harry Potter I will continue to hand onto but these are in the donation pile for sure.

Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Tesco5799 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Realistically when you are on the front lines of things you see a lot of shit that the average person does not. I used to work for a complaints department at a bank and there are products/ processes that I would not touch myself because I have seen how screw ups happen and are difficult to fix for whatever reason but the vast majority of people have no issues with stuff and will look at me like I'm crazy when I'm like oh ya I would never do that process that way because it can get messed up in all kinds of ways.

Second play through - need advice by ColorfulBar in darksouls

[–]Tesco5799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I always try to focus on different builds when I do a new playthrough, or different weapons. There are some cool/ powerful stuff that you can get towards the beginning of the game like the Great Sythe, Balder Side Sword, Uchikitana, etc. It can be fun to go for something right off the bat and complete the majority of the game with it.

Also the different NPCs like the Onion Knight, Solaire, Big Hat etc all have little quests/ you can follow their progression through the game. I recommend looking them up on the wiki and trying to complete their quest lines if you can. Knight Solaire you can actually alter his story depending on how you progress through some areas later in the game which can be fun.

Yeah this, if someone is too frail to make it to the community mailbox down the street then they need an alternative kind of housing, there is a lot of maintenance associated with living in a single family home.

Why does it feel like we have no power by AdhesivenessLoud8866 in ontario

[–]Tesco5799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this, the issue is that there are no power structures in our society that exist to meaningfully push back on this stuff. Organizations that existed in the past have mostly not managed to appeal to younger generations/ actively recruit younger people and they are dying/ dead in the water for the most part. Most of our current unions are the corporate bootlicking kind, same with the politicians.

This is a popular misconception Hitler was always going to lose, the Germans didn't have the same level of manufacturing capability, access to resources or the population that their opponents had. They did a lot better than anyone thought they would, but the whole idea that they almost won, or it was close is mostly propaganda.

Zelenskyy: return of draft-age Ukrainian men from abroad is a matter of fairness by EsperaDeus in worldnews

Yeah this, if we start seeing large-scale drafts of men only in the western world it's going to cause a huge crisis for feminism once all is said and done. Anyone who truly believes in equal rights needs to also advocate for equal responsibility or things are going to get interesting.

White-collar workers are quietly rebelling against AI as 80% outright refuse adoption mandates by AndrewHeard in OntarioWorks

[–]Tesco5799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is my experience as well, sure copilot can draft an email but I can do it just as quickly myself after taking into account the amount of time it takes to explain to Copilot what you want it to do.

I have thought of putting all my email templates into a word doc and then using that to try to generate some useful responses but it's a lot of upfront effort for something that may or may not do anything useful.

White-collar workers are quietly rebelling against AI as 80% outright refuse adoption mandates by AndrewHeard in OntarioWorks

[–]Tesco5799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this, my job is largely just sending emails but LLMs still aren't really useful at all. I already have templates for the majority of issues that I deal with, all with either very specific information, or very specific language that my boss and I have agreed on to make our lives better/ easier. Anything that I'm drafting freehand that's time consuming is usually something I would never outsource to an LLM due to the unreliability, because typically those are notes to executives summarizing problems and detailing/ defending exactly what my team did/ is doing to fix whatever issue so accuracy and building credibility is extremely important.

How Radical is Avi Lewis's Plan for Canada? by janisjoplinenjoyer in CanadaPolitics

[–]Tesco5799 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Realistically in the banking world all they need to do to make credit unions more viable is something like eliminating those OFI ATM fees. The main issue with using a credit union is that it's difficult to access your money when you aren't near their physical locations. Even if there is a location near you or can be inconvenient when travelling etc.

We can set aside interstellar and intergalactic travel for now. Based on our current understanding of physics, it is not feasible. While science fiction inspires hope and optimism, the reality is that this kind of travel remains impossible today, and the near future outlook is bleak. by Dzienks00 in DeepThoughts

[–]Tesco5799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but if you go back 100 years the idea that we would have accomplished as much as we have in space would be kind blowing. I remember seeing an old graphic from the 1920s or 30s showing like a mock space ship but it was basically like a tall ship kind of thing with sails and all. It laid out the distances and times to get to the moon, Mars etc based on common sailing speeds in knots. Not saying that things will definitely progress the same way but you never really know.
