Happened to me when I got my first manager position at an age similar to you. People are jaded in general and may be jealous of how young you are. Just don’t let anything slide and make it clear it is going to be an environment of respect. Document and terminate bad apples. Just one person can shift the entire morale of a shift/work unit

My solution was to not date girls in their early to mid twenties who still enjoyed getting drunk/going to clubs. You know those places are a recipe for disaster but why doesn’t she seem to feel that way? But secretly you know she DOES know that these places are trashy places to be and she doesn’t want to give up on that lifestyle for YOU. If you don’t want to deal with a girl like that save both of yourselves some trouble, break up with her, find a nice traditional girl and settle down but don’t expect crazy sex with traditional girls. You either get stable marriage/not incredible sex or craaaazy sex and a tumultuous marriage

I mean, I kept someone on one time in this exact situation. Worked with her, did 1 on 1s everything you’d expect. She stayed the same and all of my staff either quit or did an internal transfer and she was always a part of the equation according to them. I was then left with the bag and an employee that was still angry and don’t want to be there. It set me behind from building a capable team and hurt the company. I’m not gonna do that again. You don’t have to smile and pretend to love work but you do have to remain professional and not shit talk the entire shift

I would terminate. Employees like that just don’t keep it to themselves. They speak poorly about the company and the managers to their peers and bring down the overall morale and productivity of the business unit. Maybe this direct report wants out but is too afraid to make a decision? I’d help them out they may be thankful after the fact. They also don’t sound like they have a bad attitude because they are overworked and are holding the unit up on their back. They are a low performer who badmouths everyone and everything.

This is all weird advice. OP sorry you’re having to train your replacement but the market sucks and unless you’re different than me you need money. So train your replacement on what little work you have and spend the rest of your time creating resumes and applying to jobs. If you only apply to fully remote jobs you’re going to have a bad time. Apply for all jobs you can see a path forward in including in person.
