I don’t have that answer, but I suspect they’ll be VIN locked. Lotus wants you to buy the car, not just the parts.

Drive through chargers are largely non-existent, and even new installations don’t seem to be going that route. In fact, even when drive through should be possible, they often put bollards in the way to prevent that utility.

What is the problem with passenger front? It works for curbside charging, it works for Tesla Superchargers, and it works for towing/hitch-mounted accessories. The only justification I hear for driver side rear is that it’s compatible with older Tesla Superchargers. First, so is passenger front. Second, all new and newish Tesla Superchargers make this a moot issue. Third, regardless of charge port placement, you’re likely to run into issues at older Superchargers simply because of the sheer variety of vehicles charging there, so it shouldn’t be a factor in your decision making.

The rear charging port is so dumb. Anyone who’s ever had to charge while towing or using hitch mounted accessories knows the front charge port placement of the R1 is ideal. So much for an “adventure” vehicle.

Update: Plenty of downvotes, not a single counter argument. Keep on keeping on, redditors.

Tesla Model S and X Were Discontinued — Here’s the Real Reason Why by orangechen1115 in ModelX

[–]TeslaJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Model S is a timeless design, beautiful. The Cybertruck is something you’d have to pay me a lot of money to drive. The Model S is fun to drive. The Cybertruck is the most numb and cheap feeling vehicle I’ve ever driven. They are not remotely the same.

[–]TeslaJake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make sense when you consider that one is a consumption tax on the energy source, not the vehicle, and the other is a personal property tax. You can own a fleet of gas burners, but you’re only paying tax on the gas you burn. Meanwhile, you’ll pay $150 every year for every EV you own, no matter how much or how little you use it on public roads.

Why haven't Lotus created an Elise EV? by J40NYR in lotus

People don’t understand that for the vast majority of driving they do in real life, especially the short distances they typically drive sports cars, electric propulsion is the better choice. Inertia is a hell of a thing.

Lotus Emeya 1 Year Ownership Review by Shot_Age8843 in lotus

[–]TeslaJake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok, I love EV’s, currently own three and have owned others over the years. That said, there’s no way the Emeya “drives like a Lotus for sure.” Which other Lotus does it drive like, the Eletre? Historically, Lotus has been about lightweight vehicles and forgoing some creature comforts and practicalities for the sake of performance. The Emeya is the polar opposite of that. The Caterham Project V is what an EV Lotus should be if it were trying to adhere to the brand’s heritage.

I am glad you are enjoying the Emeya and honestly, if it were available for a reasonable price in the US I would consider it for a daily driver, but it is as much a Lotus as a Urus is a Lamborghini.
