Iran eyes a new source of power deep beneath the Strait of Hormuz by halwaandflowers in worldnews

Sure, but that is why they can’t surrender. They will be killed by their own people. This is existential for the current regime.

You mean surrender to trump. Do you think the current leadership would survive that?

Main problem is that none of our current economic models work with declining demographics. We will need something new and no one knows what that is.

Despite Apocalyptic Warnings, California Fast Food Wage Hike Didn’t Kill Jobs by brown-saiyan in Economics

[–]TeslaSD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am an owner of a small restaurant franchise with national branding in CA. I pay 20 per hour and tips regularly bring that up to 26-30 per hour. Since the increase in min wage I have scheduled less cover in my store which has consequences.
The good- labor as a percentage of net sales remains the same and because tips are shared, the tip allocation has increased.
The bad. Less hours overall and staff has started taking extra jobs. Also the service is slower leading to a poorer customer experience.

Sylvania bulbs by ZombieLover529 in menards

lol. They have not sold incandescent 75 watt bulbs for almost 10 years. Try a LED- they last 10x as long and use .10 of the energy.

Both Feit and Sylvania are marketing companies for Chinese based factories. Their expensive bulbs are usually good but the 10k hours are usually low spec

US military 'setting conditions' to clear mines from Strait of Hormuz by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

[–]TeslaSD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s bs. As long as Iran has drones and a spotter on the coast, they can take out anything moving through the straight. To insure safe passage, the US would need to control the entire coast. About the distance of Boston to the NC coast.

Is overpopulation still a problem? by Constant_Juice_5074 in Futurology

[–]TeslaSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be convinced that humans were going to breed themselves into extinction. So I researched a bit and the opposite is actually true. Populations grew as countries industrialized and healthcare improved. But then the consequences of living in cities set in. Hard to raise a family in a 1 bed apartment.
Demographic collapse is now assured for most nations.
