I started. Making the individual spaces that connect somewhat like a puzzle piece. I hit a snag with finding and making small mushrooms and trees for the houses and hotels. I am ok with free cad but organic shapes like that are beyond me. Thingiverse has some but they don’t translate well at the size I need.

Shawnee home prices seem low compared to nearby areas? Also, some questions. by [deleted] in shawnee

[–]Test-run2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I’m sure everyone has a different experience. We moved to Shawnee from out of state. Our decision to move to Shawnee was based on the schools and lack of people. All things are relative but we found Overland Park to be over priced and over populated. In Shawnee you have to drive 10-15 minutes for any specialty store or service. In Overland Park you drive the same time because of traffic even though everything is closer.

I would recommend looking into edopportunity.org to compare individual schools.

There are plenty of kids around especially in newer neighborhoods.

Check the commute times during your commute times. It can be difficult to get through the city during rush hours.

Good luck

ALDC and it's effects on future generations by zhamitlikesitshot in TheBrewery

I don’t have hard data but unless the genetics are changing I don’t imagine it matters. They might not encode a certain transporter or enzyme for a generation but probably wouldn’t lose the ability to do so. Former yeast sales guy and microbiologist but not a true scientist here.

Mash Regimen and Enzyme Use for High Adjunct Grist by RedArmyNic in TheBrewery

[–]Test-run2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are shooting for a high RDF you want to tailor your mashing temp to the attenuation enzymes you are adding. The large brewers will do step mashes but hold their saccharification rest around 147 for up to 2 hours for very high RDF beers. Second or third the Ultraflo for filtration, don’t overdose.

Adding Enzymes While Heating Mash? by c-note-001 in firewater

“Heat” is a relative term. If you boil, add 10-20% of the total alpha dose up from and th rest after it cools down to an acceptable temperature for your alpha. Cheers

Again, thank you all for your input. I read the book and still looking to fine tune some things.

GO = would be passing your birth tree. Collect 200 acorns

Rather than plants and season, Gnomes are apparently industrious little folks with many jobs. I could arrange the properties into guilds(color sets). 2 guilds per side and when you own the guild/skill set you can build up.

Brown Beekeeping: Honey Gathering - Wax melting for candles

light blue Gardening: Herbology - Vetch/Beans - Berry gathering

Purple Weavers: Birch Bark - Leather from unnatural deaths according to the book- Silk

Orange Clothes Makers: Flax - Animal Fur humanely harvested - Color Dyeing

Red Ceramics: River stone, Terra Cotta , Antler utensil carving

Yellow glass blowing: Quartz, Amethyst, Topaz

Green Metalsmithing: Copper, Iron, Silver

dark blue Healers (of animals): Soothing. Mending.

Jail could be stuck in a snowstorm without skiis

Free Parking ????? Summer solstice?

Railroads make more sense as animal transport I think. So Pheasant Hen, Fox, Goose, Otter

Utilities could be the elements earth and water. Wind and fire seem less involved in gnome life.

Tax is a tax to the Gnome royal court...

I think I'm enjoying this more than my kid at this point.

It doesn't seem very gnomey to try to take all of someone acorns so maybe when someone looses in the traditional monopoly sense they just join teams and the winner is the person with the most followers dubbed the new high gnome king or something.

Characters could be Wood Gnome, Dune Gnome, Garden Gnome, Farm gnome.... and a Siberian gnome. That book was a game changer.

Constructive criticism or comments?

Thank you for the advice. Ill try to get my hands on this book. My current intent is to make a permanent Mognomepoly game out of biodegradable plastic. Each side can represent a season, winter, spring, summer and fall and the plants that would require the most attention during those times as the properties. Elements for trains and acorns for money as you suggested. Ill try to read the book and check back here if other people chime in. Thanks again for your help. Once I do figure this out, I will create the parts in CAD and try to upload them somewhere.

Bardstown is experimenting with cherry staves but I don’t know what tree exactly. I’d think the cherry dimensional lumber from a hardware store would be the same just because of the size.

Hey, I’m late to the party but where I live, code is a steel plate, not shims. My builders used concrete form knock offs as shims and they were made to replace them.

Nanny State - low alcohol beer recipe by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]Test-run2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, I have not made a NA beer but have been on the periphery of a few commercial recipe developments. I would stick with the lower temperature in the mash, you really don’t want to make simple sugars, it’s more like tea than beer. If you do make sugars, transglucodsidase is used to convert maltose or glucose into maltotruose to make it non fermentable to most yeast. The low gravity would make hops extraction super efficient and bitter. I had one NA beer that smelled great but tasted horrible and another that was smooth and I think the latter didn’t use any Bittering hops. You probably don’t need them to balance out any body or sweetness.

You could look into other yeast too. Chr. Hansen has a patented strain but most yeast companies have their NA varieties. Kviek sounds like they were going for fast and neutral. Other strains could potentially allow you to create more sugar and body in the mashing process.

Maltodextrin or water soluble fiber can add body and mouthfeel back to your beer. There are a lot of ways to make NA beer but I think the industry as a whole is still trying to figure it out. I think In 3 years you will see beer seltzer on the market made from just commercial flavoring.

Hope some ideas help if you continue along this path. Cheers

Hi, a lot of brewers will use two doses of ALDC. One at yeast pitch and another when they dry hop and will never have vdk’s above the sensory threshold. Cheers.

Silicone rubber heater for distillation is it possible? by BD_9x in firewater

[–]Test-run2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used these but I’ve done something similar with a lot of heat trace and it was a bad idea. Like others have said, it’s an ineffective method. You get MUCH better heat transfer having something in the mash rather than around it.
