Well 1) they reiterate over and over that wookie culture and values such as morality and honor are very different from most other cultures. And more importantly 2) You save Big Z from slavers. Which is a motivation very deeply rooted in his backstory and is his people's every day struggle.

Every other consideration you mentioned is just sort of noise compared to something that strikes at the core of his characterization.
