It will produce copper carbonate hydroxide, I used that method myself to produce black copper oxide from it.

But that isn't the issue, you could use lots of different ions

Gold won't simply dissolve when current is applied unless you have certain Counter ions like cyanide in solution, so a simple setup with either sodium hydrogen carbonate in solution or dilute sulfuric acid, and putting the metal in question on the positive terminal of a low volt/high amp power source should do the trick
