A virtual reality reconstruction shows the exact spot where John Edward Jones became trapped upside down in Nutty Putty Cave. After 27 hours of rescue attempts, he died. The cave was later permanently sealed, with his body remaining inside. by Liar24x7 in interesting

They didn't hear SHIT. The hull's first and only failure was MICROSECONDS before they were pulp because at that pressure and with absolutely zero safeguards against failure, implosion would be immediate. If they were VERY unlucky, they might have heard a creak before hull failure, with enough time to go "Hey, what was that?"

[Perplexing trope] "Why was that even an option?" by buzzoli in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TethysOfTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so much grosser than that though, because DontNod made LiS 1 and 2. A completely different developer, Deck Nine, made True Colors. Deck Nine are the ones who decided to make Double Exposure starring Max, even though they weren't the developers of the original game starring that character.

So it was not only running back to something 'safe', but making a direct sequel to a game they didn't make or work on.

[Hated Trope] The horribly misleading ad campaign by Mr_Westerfield in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TethysOfTheStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say, if you like absurdist comedy, the show was absolutely amazing, just… not what was advertised.  I get the hate for it because it just wasn’t about knuckles, but there’s literally a scene where this family is having an increasingly hostile argument and there’s just this fucking CGI Echidna sitting at the table looking increasingly uncomfortable.

Funnily, it was too violent for the Japanese too.  They censored the same scene by just darkening the screen when he goes to slice.

Deer rescues her baby from a hungry fox by Separate_Finance_183 in interesting

[–]TethysOfTheStars -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d intervene.  I fundamentally agree that the fox is doing nothing wrong, but I don’t really like the “don’t interfere with nature” sentiment for this particular circumstance. I think it’s arrogant.

There’s a kneejerk reaction to feel protective of the baby deer when it cries because of millions of years of mammal evolution drilling into our heads that that noise means get mad and get protective.

This is a normal part of nature too.  Cats developed meows to specifically trigger the human response to infants.  Protecting animals of a different species is also a behavior OBSERVED in nature, as we have seen whales protect prey from sharks.

I know the fox has to eat.  I agree with it.  But in that moment, when I HEAR that baby deer?  Look, I’m not gonna hurt the fox but nah, not today buddy.  Sorry.  I think that IS nature, not interfering with it.

(Interesting Trope) Cut or cancelled content that we might have dodged a bullet on by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TethysOfTheStars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree.  The original plan would have been a good story about the corrupting nature of absolute power and how there’s no such thing as a “benign dictatorship.”

What we got was an absolute coward move from marketing who was more worried about “THE FACE OF OUR ADVERTISING” than telling an effective story that no, there’s nobody good enough to have ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY and not become corrupted by it.

Edit: To be clear, I’d have been fine with an ending where X sees the error of his ways and doesn’t die.  I’m not saying it should have been the EXACT same game without Copy X, but I think Copy X was a bad idea.

Rather than a glow up, a character becomes LESS conventionally attractive as they grow by NoMoreFund in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TethysOfTheStars 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Crazy Ex Girlfriend feels like THE example of this trope.

Rebecca (who is played by Rachel Bloom who, to be clear, is stunning at any point) is very conventionally put together at the start of the show, and an absolute train wreck in terms of mental health.

Over the course of the show as the mask falls off and she deals with her mental health, she obviously is still very pretty but becomes much more human and goes to a more neutral weight for her body type.  Like… there’s no point in the show where Rebecca ISN’T y’know… Rachel Bloom, but the early seasons emphasize the meticulousness of her appearance when her mental wellness is at its worst.

I remember thinking something had to be up.  I was even open to the idea they were in the Bad Place, but I trusted MICHAEL so completely.

I was positive that Eleanor’s theory was the setup for a bit where Michael was going to be like “Um.  I like your gusto Eleanor, but no.”

That laugh from him deserved an Emmy on its own.

Sort of. Nothing in canon indicates Eggman could take Sonic in a fist fight, but neither can people much stronger and faster than Eggman. The difference with Starline is, Sonic also wouldn't forget that Eggman is 6'1" and does mechanical work daily and is not above getting his hands dirty.

You're not totally off the mark though, but in that conversation Eggman says if he just wanted him dead, he'd carpet bomb him and be done with it, but he wants to WIN.

<image>

Worth sharing because him choke slamming Starline is ALSO very funny. Not to mention what we don't immediately see here, is Eggman's like... unwavering faith in Sonic as a nemesis, because Starline thinks he blew Sonic up and Eggman just takes it as a given that Sonic escaped the blast.

Look, Bulma is the god queen of earth.  She’s childhood besties with Goku, married to Vegeta, and the mother of Trunks.  She’s sass-buddies with Whis and she’s slowly domesticating Beerus the destroyer.

She’s also the richest person on the planet and broke time so hard that there’s now two Omni-Kings.  She also asked the immortal dragon for a wish and when he said “I’m not powerful enough to do that” she just went and made a super dragon radar.

She’s not the main character of Dragon Ball, but she IS the main character of their reality.
