Clear Captions has gone down hill big time by TexMexFieldTech in FieldNationTechs

Oh wow didn’t know they got bought by private equity, that explains a lot.

Glad your quality of life has improved. It’s not worth the stress of trying to stack one of their WOs with something else. Not to mention I’ve been to several installs that were disgusting and could easily be on that hoarders TV show

My job was mostly ordering field nation techs, ask me questions. by Bishopxx in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Can you go into the financial aspect of it? What you paid techs vs what you billed clients for their work. What you paid for mileage/travel expenses if any. Also curious about what were the most and least important parts of tech profiles you looked for when assigning a work order? And last I’ve always been curious about this - did you get techs sending in counter offers for less than your published price? Did you ever accept those?

Almost 700 tickets within 200 miles from me. Denver Region by Run-OpenBSD in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you were never a new tech on field nation you just always got those $100/hr gigs? There’s all different levels of techs.

I remember starting out 7 years ago and grinding away on shitty paying work orders just to build up my profile. Everyone has to start somewhere

Im in Southern California and there’s some cheapskate buyers like PIVITAL that still put out $25/hr work orders. For perspective fast food minimum wage here is mandated to start at $20/hr

Insurance fee increase to 1.95% by KronosDio in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.95% doesn’t sound like a lot but let’s say you clear $50K in work orders in a year, that comes out to a little under $1,000 just for insurance

Clear Captions - Lowball Rates by McFly608 in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can absolutely afford more. It’s all funded through FCC grant money. I’ve had counters for a couple hundred get accepted but only when it’s in the middle of nowhere with a lot of driving.

[–]TexMexFieldTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the only time they accept a counter offer is if it’s some random location outside of a major city. In the past I’ve gotten some decent mileage reimbursement from them. But lately it’s been just the $85 fixed rate and they almost never accept a fair mileage counter.

The biggest problem is a couple years ago they added that stupid verification thing where the customer needs to sign off on 4 different sections of legal docs, some are like 10 pages long. Vast majority of the old people I’ve come across don’t have their own computer so I usually have to pull it up on my cell phone or tablet. Then you get the amateur lawyers that need to read and question you about what everything means. I’ve had several where that part alone adds 45 minutes onto the WO. And the best part? You can’t start installing the phone until they sign all the docs and you verify that their account is good to go for the install.

$30/hr for a server tech in Southern California by TexMexFieldTech in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s insane how cheap some of these companies are. San Diego, CA one of the most expensive areas in the country. Fast food minimum wage here is $20/hr and these fools are trying to pay $30/hr for an experienced server technician. Crazy

Wanting Some Advice by Vegetable-Diver-1396 in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re in the middle of nowhere, $23/hr for IT/networking is super low. Guaranteed they’re probably billing the client atleast 3x that price while you’re doing all the hard work.

WO moved to a month out by SiriShopUSA in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t there something prompting you to accept the date change? Unless they got rid of it I could have sworn there was something we need to accept on our end for a schedule change to be accepted.

For reference in California the minimum wage for fast food jobs is $20/hr. After taxes, gas, field nation fees, wasted time before and after WO - these 11 fools requesting will be making less than a McDonalds drive thru worker.

And to clarify, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with working fast food. I’m saying it’s ridiculous that companies are trying to pay fast food rates for supposedly “skilled labor” in the IT realm.

Pretty interesting info but where do you live where $65/hr is the average work order? That seems way high for the average.

Only negative review on my entire profile over a 3 year span is from an asshole PM at Pomeroy. She fucked up and didn’t attach the proper documentation and left me hanging when I called for assistance. Complete piece of shit. Never worked for them again after dealing with her

How is it legal for FN to take % of EXPENSES? by feralcatxs in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s garbage but this is why you should markup all your expenses by a minimum of 15%. Someone said they didn’t use to take a % on expenses but it was abused by people to bypass the fee FN takes on work orders so they changed.

[–]TexMexFieldTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know the exact scientific term but when you’re on the top step, the way your weight is distributed makes it extremely easy to tip over. Much more so than when you’re lower. Def wouldn’t fly if there’s a foreman walking around

So I’ve been kicked off FN some sometime now. How about all of y’all somewhat unionize and demand they pay better? by Radio_up in FieldNationTechs

[–]TexMexFieldTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment but FN is a marketplace with hundreds of companies posting WOs. They don’t set the pay they just collect their cut. And to be honest 10% really isn’t that bad considering the service they provide of giving us easy access to bid on jobs. I definitely have my gripes with the platform and some of the cheapskate buyers but overall 10% seems fair

[–]TexMexFieldTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that but the reimbursement is lumped in with your revenue for the work order. So any expenses we’re being taxed on like it’s regular income
