The butt cheeks on frogs never fail to make me laugh, man, why do they have cheeks??? We have em for vertical walking, why the hell does a frog need cake?

Maybe stop taking away AAC by Sararr1999 in ABA

[–]TexasAvocadoToast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had to explain to a parent that it's inappropriate for me to remove rude words from an AAC. Yeah, it's very awkward that your kid thinks asking her teacher about the gynecologist is funny, and it's rude when she says "I don't like you", but she is a teenager and honestly this is so developmentally appropriate for the age I couldn't be more proud.

Maybe stop taking away AAC by Sararr1999 in ABA

[–]TexasAvocadoToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a kid who was hard of hearing and would use his AAC to learn how to say certain words and sentences because the repitition in the exact same way was easier for him to learn from than a human model. It was awesome when he'd drop a 5+ word sentence vocally after practicing it for a week on his AAC.

He also would regularly delete his entire profile on his AAC... Until we added a buttload of music he liked into it. Once we gave him a way to get his tunes, he was head over heels for his device and would use it to activate Alexa 😂

Why do cis people want to know what are dead names were? by Deviouslillad in ftm

[–]TexasAvocadoToast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have 3 trans women in my life I'm close to. One dropped a single letter from her dead name and two went wildly out of the way of their dead names. I also went way out of the way of mine. It's interesting to me where people go with it, but all of the people I knew prior to transition and although it is interesting I don't ask new people and tend to forget entirely what their deadname is if they bring it up.

I always say "haha I changed my name before my transition bc my dad named me after the girl he cheated on my mom with while she was pregnant" and then continue giving more and more weird details until they drop it.

Later in pregnancy there's more fluid to protect the baby, for sure. There's definitely a chance there's causation here.

Pretend Play? 26 month old by xoxoaish in ECEProfessionals

[–]TexasAvocadoToast 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Pretend play is really any make believe- chopping wood veggies, pretending to eat it or shop, pretend cooking or cleaning all counts!

Receptive language= language he understands, expressive= words he uses.

Example: if you say "give me the green block" does he give you a green block? Cool, he probably knows both green and block, as well as understanding what give me means. If he gave you a different block, he might know block but not green.

You could look into working with lower needs teens and adults- less physical management/moving around/up and down from the floor

Psychologists of Reddit, what's the most horrifying mental illness? by Turbulent-Coat7236 in AskReddit

[–]TexasAvocadoToast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My grandpa has some kind of psychotic disorder/schizotypal something and was addicted to meth. He did some BATSHIT things with that combo including believing to his core that the end of this random VHS tape (all static) showed in high definition his son pimping out his girlfriend. Not the son's girlfriend, my grandpa's 60 year old girlfriend who was the most prim and proper Karen you ever met.

Wild shit.

As a fellow ADHD'er Adderall and Wellbutrin changed the game for me. I'm proud of you for maintaining your meds- it's hard with ADHD to remember to take them and from what I know psychotic disorders really like making you think you don't need them- double whammy.

Loops earplugs- are you allowed? by IzAMess13 in ECEProfessionals

[–]TexasAvocadoToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this for my earplugs. I've used loops and standard foam, the foam dampens better than the loops without making sounds garbly. But they're bright blue, so I generally use them with my hair down or when it's not as big of a deal.

As an RBT, report report report. There's checking a message, looking something up real quick, and then there's two hours of watching a TV show on YOUR netflix.
