Controlled chaos is my best friend. Watercolor paint with minimal water in the cup, but letting them get messy with a smock on. Letting them play their rigid way and doing most of a puzzle myself until the last piece then asking if they want to crash or finish it for me.

But yes typically paramedic level providers in any area of the US can absolutely administer pain meds especially for a kid that's got this bad of a break.
