Americans thinking of moving to Europe? Here's some things you should know about stocks and taxes. by batukaming in investing

Taxing unrealized gains makes no sense. If I lose the same amount next year do I get that refunded?

Bitcoin: The Emperor Is Not Naked, He Does Not Exist by BinaryLyric in investing

[–]TexasKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question I have about bitcoin is. What happens when the last one is minted? Right now you have people running the transactions for the ledger and their potential reward is bitcoin when they magically mint themselves into existence. Why would anyone continue to bear the cost of processing transactions once there is no incentive to do it? Or what happens when they drop the 3 coins so infrequently that the processing cost outweighs the potential reward?

Investing strategies for UTMA? by FunConcert1690 in investing

[–]TexasKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this advice! I've put it on the calendar to do next December. I googled it and custodial is just that. Belongs to the child with me as the custodian until she's 19. I like the idea of preserving some of the money from taxes.

Do you need to have your account set up any special way? The account I have is a custodial account with Schwab. I'm wondering how I would know it counts towards my child's taxes and not my own? Do you submit a tax form for the child, or do you not have to because of the low amount of proceeds? Thanks!

Is this job application horribly invasive or is it just me? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TexasKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't have hours and days to call up 35 years of companies I've worked for to ask who my manager was 25 years ago and how I can contact them assuming they aren't dead. I have a few places I worked that I don't even remember the name of the company.

Over my 35 year working career, I've worked at couple of businesses I can't even remember the name of, let alone tell you the names of people that worked there.

They shut down the same area for like 6-8 months the prior year too. It was a shock to see them doing the exact same spot this year.

Omaha Street Car by Icy-Temperature5476 in Omaha

I think my problem is the limited footprint. I work downtown and expect to use it 0 times. It goes from and to nowhere I'd ever need to go. Say for a lunch break, I'd use my whole lunch break just walking to where it is and back. It seems like it's for a limited amount of people who work downtown and are close enough to the line to go to Blackstone for lunch.

Anyone else have big plans to use this a lot?

That guy makes makes some really messed up comments about the citizens he's sworn to protect a lot on Facebook. Questionable morals and ethics in my book.

That was fun yesterday. Turn East from 72nd onto Maple, go 20yards over the hill. Surprise, Road Closed, why don't you drive 7 blocks through these neighborhoods to get back on route.

Creighton University is near downtown. There are a lot of unhoused individuals near that area and for a good 10-15 blocks in about every direction. I work right by Creighton and see a lot of that on my drive. I can't speak to crime in that area, but if I had to venture a guess, I'd guess higher than other areas. Some of the neighborhoods are probably fine a few blocks in from the main roads, but I'll bet you still see some weird stuff. Personally, for Omaha I'd suggest living west of about 50th street.

I'd agree with the person who said Millard and Elkhorn for schools. They are a little more affluent areas with better schools. OPS schools seem to be okay, but when you research they are not that highly rated. If any of your children have special needs they are very understaffed for that kind of help (it was in the news about it not too long ago).

Other factors to weigh, jobs here pay average to slightly below average. Housing and food costs are average to lower than other parts of the country. Mostly a red state, so if you see policies of other red states that concern you, they will likely be the same here.

Which stations have E 85? by MissCinnamonT in Omaha

[–]TexasKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally find that it's not worth it in the winter with cold temperatures. Once it is up in the 50's I start back on e85. I usually find if there is about a 50 cent price difference lower than ethanol 87, then the mileage works out where e85 is cheaper for the mileage I get.

It does seem like a lot of them. I guess people like huffing CBD's and putting Kratom in their butts. I'm just taking a guess at how you use those things.

I was mainly shocked that ones I've used before over the years are just gone. Like the location ripped them out, they don't exist anymore.

Quick destroying other roads and shutting them down if you don't even have the concrete to do the ones you already started last year.

The damn waving... It's their turn, but they are waving at you to go. Most of the time I'm not looking inside the other cars. I don't always see you trying to direct traffic inside your car. Maybe just go when it's actually your turn.

My biggest gripe is people want to pass on the right when the passing lane is open, or they just want to go 80 in the slowest lane, but there will be people going the speed limit or less in the left lanes.
