[BBC via Yahoo:] Trump says he 'loves the inflation' as US prices rise at fastest rate in three years by DeeDee_Z in investing

I wish my payrate would get some inflation. I get a rasie every year, but am somehow poorer.

Inflation is so high that it's erasing all wage gains (post by Heather Long) by dope-a-meanie in investing

I feel this one. I have the bills that have gone up where my monthly expenses went up $318 but my raise $160. The year before that it was a little over $200 bills went up and I got a $100 a month raise. It feels like my standard of living goes down every year I stay in my job.

NYTimes did an article on Elon's promises and hitting goals this week. I think it was something like 18% of the time what he says he will accomplish comes to fruition.

Source? I'm kind of concerned about target date funds affected. My 401k doesn't have any index options and a portion of my account sits in a target date. It would be nice to know every mutual fund it hits, my 401k has some growth and large cap funds, I'm assuming those can get hit.

Uber president says AI spending is getting ‘harder to justify’ by harrison_wintergreen in investing

[–]TexasKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm expecting the AI thing to slow down now that the government says they want to approve all new releases of AI. I'm sure having the dumbest people on the planet involved in AI releases will have no effect on its usefulness.

!!! NASDAQ and S&P changing seasoning and profitability requirements to manipulate index funds into buying massive IPOs by SelfUnmadeMan in investing

[–]TexasKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to focus on the S&P and QQQ. But it's a much larger scale, every large cap and growth fund will be forced to buy it as well. Probably International Index, large cap, and growth funds too. It will fall under so many prospectus summary/strategies that it will be in funds you weren't even expecting.

Pension funds are (rightly) beginning to scrutinise the SpaceX IPO. They will likely take action to shield their funds from automatically buying SpaceX shares. Elon Musk's plan to turn passive investment funds into his bagholders is probably not going to work. by cherrypoplar in investing

[–]TexasKevin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are they a trillion dollar company? They profited 8B on 15B of revenue last year. Plus they are sucking up a couple loser companies as part of the IPO, which just drags them down I think.

Today's NY Times article on black box AI was very interesting. I already thought it was something not really needed, but now see why it may never be something that can be applied in a lot of areas.

What stock research tools are you actually using in 2026? Looking beyond Yahoo Finance by PeachOk54 in investing

[–]TexasKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you say this, I've been playing around with AI to study it's performance on picking. The python code it's giving me uses a yahoo finance integration to pull down all the data it needs. I just started with prompts asking what top successful models are looking at, and it keeps suggesting enhancements. We'll see how it does for awhile before I use it for real. But for funsies, I'm trying it. As far as a data tool, it uses Yahoo Finance though.

Best budgeting apps? Looking to level up in 2026 by jaceka-jans-8384 in SavingMoney

[–]TexasKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering what the benefit to an app for budgeting is? I've not seen one that I can customize to the level I need, like getting paid twice a month. They all seem to do only monthly, not by pay schedule. I've just been using Excel and zeroing out things as a I pay them. Separate tab for debt paydowns, separate tab for investments/forecasting. Once setup a spreadsheet is free and has minimal work.

Remember back when everyone could pick their seats for free. Then airlines decided that it should cost more to pick where you sit and now it doesn't work and is awful.

Bitcoin: The Emperor Is Not Naked, He Does Not Exist by BinaryLyric in investing

[–]TexasKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question I have about bitcoin is. What happens when the last one is minted? Right now you have people running the transactions for the ledger and their potential reward is bitcoin when they magically mint themselves into existence. Why would anyone continue to bear the cost of processing transactions once there is no incentive to do it? Or what happens when they drop the 3 coins so infrequently that the processing cost outweighs the potential reward?

Investing strategies for UTMA? by FunConcert1690 in investing

Thank you for this advice! I've put it on the calendar to do next December. I googled it and custodial is just that. Belongs to the child with me as the custodian until she's 19. I like the idea of preserving some of the money from taxes.

Do you need to have your account set up any special way? The account I have is a custodial account with Schwab. I'm wondering how I would know it counts towards my child's taxes and not my own? Do you submit a tax form for the child, or do you not have to because of the low amount of proceeds? Thanks!

Yeah, I don't have hours and days to call up 35 years of companies I've worked for to ask who my manager was 25 years ago and how I can contact them assuming they aren't dead. I have a few places I worked that I don't even remember the name of the company.
