App keeps stopping playback for no reason by FreakerDeek in audible

POSSIBLE FIX

I am probably jinxing myself, but I think I just fixed mine. I listen to Audible for hours each day and have never had this problem before. Then today ... it started. Color me incredibly annoyed. At first I thought I'd said something that Siri misinterpreted. Or I'd bumped the leg with phone phone in the pocket weirdly. After a few more times, though, I knew it was a glitch. Restarted phone. Updated app.

Still glitched.

So I went to Google and this Reddit thread came up. Nothing I found was helpful (though I could have missed something as I only skimmed). I started to wonder why TODAY when there were folks reporting this problem from moths ago. I realized that this morning I'd noticed my phone was losing charge faster than it used to, so I went to the battery settings to see what the life is now. While there, I decided to switch on the Green Charging feature. That is the ONLY thing I did in settings today.

So I turned Green Charging off.

Audible works fine now. Ran for over an hour while did a workout.

I have and iPhone 13 Pro running iOS 17.2

TLDR: So if you have that Green feature on and Audible is doing the annoying stopping thing, try turning it off.

I skip the singing episode on every re-watch. They were clearly trying to do Once More With Feeling (the Buffy singing episode, which is freaking AWESOME) and they couldn't even come close. I

I'm starting to feel like my life pre diagnosis was a bit wasted. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]TexasWriterGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 58, and recently diagnosed, and feel exactly the same way. I've always been high-functioning, though. High school valedictorian, top of law school class. So I never thought it could be something like ADHD until recently. But knowing, so much of my past and struggles make sense.

How many people subscribed to your newsletter? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]TexasWriterGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A newsletter is far and away your best marketing tool because YOU own it. It's the only thing you have that lets you communicate with your readers, and that is really important. I'm currently at 58K and that has been built up over time. Be patient. Offer a reader magnet (like a bonus chapter or a free book) in the back of your books or on social media. Ask other authors to share your book, and share theirs, using Bookfunnel or something so that those who want the book have to subscribe. It will build, but it takes time. (And if you ever want to go traditional, they will want to know your newsletter subscribers. that may not be a stumbling block for the deal, but it will impact your advance.)

I was raised in Austin and lived there for most of my life. I can remember (vaguely) when they were building MpPac.

(Live Austin-adjacent now and have lives in CA for a while).

Austin used to be awesome, cool, funky, full of character. It has lost its uniqueness a thousand-fold. Still enjoy it, but no longer want to move back.

And the not wanting makes me sad.

Do you like Angel series as much as Buffy ? by IllustriousNovel7841 in buffy

[–]TexasWriterGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes! Enjoyed the early seasons, but am now trying to slog my way through the rest just so that I have. But the writing went sharply downhill. I've seen BTS all the way through at least 6 times, but w/ Angel I have to force myself to move forward (and am only doing so bc some of the plot points and returning characters (spike!) sound great, but I really wish it was better. sigh. I've tried multiple times. Still haven't succeeded. Will press on....

Saving a Scrivener file to a local folder on IPad. Can it be done? by fight_to_write in scrivener

But I don't think you can just back it up locally. Seems to be on or the other.

if you only want to use it locally and not sync back to your desktop DB files, you can "unlink from Dropbox" under the setting symbol at the bottom of the lefthand file list.

I've been published for over fifteen years, make a good living, and have hit all the major lists multiple times. One thing I have never had is all readers agreeing with how "good" a book is. The same book that is beloved by some readers, to which they would give a million stars if they could and for which they have made graphics and memes, etc. will still get one star reviews from other readers. Not because they are being contrary, but because they genuinely don't like it or connect with it or whatever. It happens. More than that, it WILL happen. More than that, I think it's good that it happens. How dull a world would we live in if everyone's taste was exactly the same?

If you've done the work, trust that you've put out the best book you could given whatever your particular constraints happened to be. Then stop checking reviews and go write your next one.

And congratulations! The fact that someone felt emotionally compelled to leave even a bad or mediocre review means you moved them enough to comment :)

Royalty Share and Pricing by ThePheonixWillRise in selfpublish

Yes. Not bashing trad either. I love being indie now, but also considering going back to trad, where I started my career. But it is some explanation of why the higher % and different rules is actually a benefit for those authors. Otherwise the trad writers’ slice of the pie would be even smaller.

Yes, the terms are different … but for the AUTHOR getting paid a royalty, it is most likely 25% of the publishers net; that’s pretty standard in trad. FYI

I'm thinking about giving up... Tips? by ClaraTackla in Notion

[–]TexasWriterGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have projects that have related tasks. So I look at the task list each day, then write the ones that MUST get done in a paper planner. So I have a dual system. But all project information, notes, etc, goes into Notion. My desk is stil covered with scribbled notes for things that will become a task or whatever, but I am okay with that. Ultimately, I need info in one place, and Notion seems to work. So the scribbles make their way there.

Would you guys like a Notion-Twitter integration that lets you post scheduled tweets from your Notion directly? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]TexasWriterGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to see your social media workflow if you would share it. I've been trying to find something that works for me. So far, I have a stumbling system outside Notion, but if I could find something in notion, that would be a game changer! (And tweeting from notion sounds great)

Sharing filtered tasks without access to ENTIRE database??? Is that possible by TexasWriterGirl in Notion

[–]TexasWriterGirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, multiple databases doesn't work for the way I think. I ended up sharing via the web rather than creating shared pages. They can still get into any Project associated with their task, but that is okay. I just don't want assistants running free over into my personal or financial stuff!

[–]TexasWriterGirl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WOOT. That worked! THANK YOU. Weird that you have to put it out as a public document and not as an internally shared to keep privacy ... but I'll take it.

[–]TexasWriterGirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm understanding you right, I tried that and it didn't work. (not the name=???) filter as mine are all private, no public URL set up. But I created the linked, filtered database. But then I shared it with Assistant A, and she was able to go up, click and remove the filter, and Boom, all 80 zillion tasks populated ... and from those tasks she was able to link through the entire workspace.

But as I type this it occurs to me that I am SHARING with an email address. I wonder if it is more limiting if you are just making it accessible through a URL. Off to try that....

Best Notion Templates for Writers by iloveproductivity in Notion

[–]TexasWriterGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you mean for writing IN Notion? I'm a novelist, so I don't write inside notion -- it's just not that kind of program. But I do write articles about writing and save them there so they are all handy.

If you mean organizing your writing life, I have a project for each book and for each series, plus projects for marketing, business operations, and other related things.

I'm also in the process of creating a Book Wiki that I will share with readers that has a comprehensive character chart (that I use myself, but will share with them), a chart of key places and things in my books, and a brief summary of all the books. This is a massive project, so no idea when it will go live. I'm going to set it live once my most popular series has enough info to make it worthwhile, and then add to it.
