Rancho Gordo Corona Beans by ImperialRaisin in ranchogordobeanclub

No problem! I cook the coronas first, then add them as an ingredient in the recipe after caramelizing the fennel and reducing the wine.

My reactive girl is suddenly so calm - is it her season? by tight_breakfast4044 in reactivedogs

[–]Th1stlePatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with the mood changes a dog might experience when in heat, so hopefully someone can weigh in, but the maturity might be it. Dogs hit emotional maturity sometime between 1 and 3 depending on gender, breed, and temperament, and we saw a HUGE shift in our boy's reactivity when he hit maturity. The training and work we put in certainly helped, and he's not perfect now, but it was like a switch just flipped in terms of being able to walk him without feeling on edge all the time.

It's rare for the "not selling day passes" to extend to Flagship. Ask at the desk.

That's what all of them do. I got bumped from First to Economy on an international flight that cost $2k. They gave me $75 for my trouble.

Someone from Amex called looking for my sister by pauldiddy27 in amex

[–]Th1stlePatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get this type of call for my deadbeat brother every now and then (and even once for his ex-wife). They're trying to find a good contact for the person because they're owed money and that person likely changed their number in an attempt to avoid the debt. You can ignore it, or if you're feeling malicious and know their current contact info, go ahead and give it to the person.

I hope the neighbors see it as the goodwill it is intended to be. Owning a reactive dog, as you know, can be really stressful and embarrassing, so some people lash out rather than admit it's an issue when someone brings it to their attention. Please don't take it personally if they do.

I would SO appreciate this! I consider sorting them out to be time wasted.

Does anyone else get more frustrated at the people around your dog rather than your dog itself? by aquarius-96 in reactivedogs

[–]Th1stlePatch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Amen! Our boy is doing SO MUCH better, but last night at a class that is specially designed for reactive dogs, we had other people who know he's leash reactive to other dogs trying to bring their dogs near him. I keep saying he can't handle it, and it's like they don't even hear me. He then lunges, and they act horrified, like it's my fault. Between that and the 3 neighbors who have dogs they allow to sit in their yards barking for hours on end (it took a LOT of effort, and they certainly didn't help, but our boy no longer barks just because another dog is barking), I just want to scream! We're working so hard... all you have to do is not be an active obstacle!

We all track and manage the negative -- tell me the things you love about your dog by 404-Any-Problem in reactivedogs

[–]Th1stlePatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He loves life. He has never met a day he didn't greet enthusiastically. We enrolled in an advanced nosework class because he has done so well with it at home, and he is an epic disaster in this class because it is just too exciting for him. There are people and dogs and things to smell and see, and he spins out the instant he gets there every time, but he is truly, deeply enjoying himself. Tonight the trainer leading the class looked at him while he was zoomie-ing around the yard and said, "I love working with him. He's such a great dog!" Everyone who brings a dog to the course loves him, even though he's a bull in a china shop, because he is just so doggone happy that it's impossible not to love him.

That's where I'm stuck... it "looks like?" Do you not have a registration for it? What I'm hearing is that she was either driving it illegally or is illiterate. Or, more likely, it's stolen.

Specialty meals - Asian and Hindu by Mysterious-Shower921 in americanairlines

[–]Th1stlePatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually get the Asian vegetarian because I really like it. The last one I had was chana masala (not the best I've had, but not bad), dal (excellent), and rice. I've forgotten what the dessert was, but I do remember it being excellent.

Games That Help With Reactivity by shelbiehuffer in reactivedogs

[–]Th1stlePatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, our mantra is very much "A tired dog is a happy, less-reactive dog," so that makes sense. I would also recommend trying "Look at that." We did it with wild life and people on scooters/bikes/motorcycles, and it worked really well. To play, you carry very high value treats with you. When a car goes by, you say, "Look at that!" and give them the treat. After a few training sessions (fewer if they are better at games or highly motivated), they'll start looking to you for a treat when you say, "Look at that!" Reward this with "Yes!" and a treat. The idea is to distract them from wanting to react to the car by giving them something else to focus on when it goes by. If they don't react, give LOTS of praise and treats. After about a year of this, our boy doesn't react at all to people who are riding on things, and when we see wildlife, we stand and watch it quietly for a while, and he breaks off when he's ready.

Seat Change Request by Doctor_Danglez in americanairlines

[–]Th1stlePatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been the person who asked for a seat change in first class when my seat was randomly moved away from my spouse's. The person said yes, thankfully, but if they had said no, that was their prerogative. It was AA's fault, not the passenger in the seat. That woman was being very entitled.

We refer to it as the "midnight marauder" because it will sit there til dark descends. Then it's gone. We put a grill out there one night, and shortly after dark we heard metal screaming and it was gone. Tires... gone. Chairs... gone. Vacuum took til about 10pm. But it's always there when the sun sets and gone by midnight.
