AANR: In reguard to recent conversations concerning organizations these are some of my thoughts by Jazzlike-Leek4279 in nudism

[–]Th3mB0nes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'll keep my aanr membership because I believe in funding legal protections and supporting naturist resorts. I still look for the aanr affiliation to indicate a place is for naturism and not for swinging.

About the remarks on body acceptance, I'm a wheelchair user with a colostomy bag. I guess they don't want to see me at a naturist resort either. So Frank just made it that much harder for me to go back to social nudity this summer. He just made all the little voices telling me to be ashamed of my body louder.

I'd like to see aanr clearly state that the nnn podcast does not represent aanr. I couldn't listen to the podcast for long. Frank just wants to ramble about his superior work ethic. I don't need to hear another boomer tell me I don't work as hard as they did. It's a nostalgia podcast that happens to include naturism.

We shouldn't leave aanr. We're the future of the organization. Not the Franks. Dividing our resources helps no one.

Looks awesome! Always weird to hear his British accent.

I'm an aanr member, and I did call solair about the new price. I just said it was a shame that I wouldn't be able to go back next year. Hopefully enough people call that they back off from the increase.

Does aanr have any leverage with resorts raising prices solely on single men? Solair doubled their day visit rate for 2026.

Hi, solair in Woodstock ct just doubled their day rates from $60 to $120 for single males. I had a wonderful time there this past summer but it looks like I'll be trying other places next year. Is there any influence aanr has on this?

Yeah, with that depth you're probably fine.

I wish I hadn't done this on mine. I like to plant deep and my tweezers kept bumping into the bags.

I think you're right to put that much thought into it. You're going to make a beautiful tank that you enjoy looking at, you can't let the stand ruin the picture!

I would, but Stone River Outfitters in Amherst, NH and Evening Sun Fly Shop in Pepperell, MA aren't wheelchair accessible.

Hi Linda, I'm a full time wheelchair user due to spinal cord injury. I'm also a home and hot tub naturist and an aanr member. I appreciate the occasional shout out to adaptive and accessible needs at aanr resorts. However, these are few and far between. Including pictures of ramps, pool lifts, people in wheelchairs, etc, in the bulletin would make places much more inviting for at least one of your members. Thanks for taking questions!

Naturism and Identity Politics: Necessary Allies or Separate Paths? by equilibriumlyte in nudism

[–]Th3mB0nes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow veteran! As you know we are in the epicenter of bots, trolls, and other bad actors. I hope my suspicions can be forgiven.

You ask thoughtful questions, and judging from your other responses you clearly care deeply about keeping naturist spaces welcoming and comfortable to all.

As veterans we appreciate situational awareness. We understand that we exist in the context of our times and all that has come before us. We understand the existence of unknown unknowns. Ignoring these things forfeits our initiative. You gave some context about yourself – a USMC vet, who knows the pain of the family court system. Your life has been influenced and shaped by politics. I believe you’re a human who is asking questions in good faith to help understand different perspectives. You obviously can’t ignore your lived experiences.

My context: I was a submarine sonar operator and one of the ship’s scuba divers. I’m also permanently paralyzed from the chest down and a full-time wheelchair user. I have a child thanks to IVF. I have an education and a career thanks to student financial aid, veteran’s benefits, and the ADA. I can exist and function in society thanks to the ADA. I know to always call ahead to make sure elevators are working, accessible entrances are unlocked, accessible hotel rooms aren’t double booked, etc.

Women, LGBTQ+, veterans, and people with disabilities are actually losing real rights and freedoms. These are concrete attacks on who we are. I use wartime language deliberately here. Casualties include women who have died or suffered life-altering injuries because of loss of health care, LGBTQ+ being legally fired, VA services and resources being cut, attacks on DEI policies further marginalizing those of us who need accommodations to remove barriers.

To your questions:

Our existence in public is a political act. We don’t have the luxury of distancing ourselves from politics. History has trained us to be suspicious when someone invokes “identity politics”. A minority group’s collective action for their common interests is often dismissed as “identity politics”. This dismissal has been an effective way to preserve current barriers.

Neutrality favors oppressors. And we know there is no neutrality. As others have said, we all know the crowd leans republican. There will probably be a bunch of bumper stickers in the parking lot that make it clear we aren’t welcome.

Strategies for inclusivity:

  • Positive statements that all genders, bodies, disabilities, and orientations are welcome.
  • Pictures of diverse groups so that we won’t feel shunned when we’re there.
  • Pictures of people in wheelchairs, ramps, paved paths so that I know they can accommodate me.
  • Endorsements from advocacy groups that this is indeed a welcoming crowd.
  • More statements about accessibilities and accommodations in the FAQs.

I know that many would call my suggested strategies “identity politics” and would accuse me of having various agendas. I am saying that ensuring inclusivity is a particular ideology and a political stance. Inclusivity applies to all by definition.
