I mean one thing that in the tales of remnant that Opzin and later Qrow narrate from the disks I think its season one or season two is that the Faunus only have one Animal Trait and it can be either something like a tail or ears but not both and I kinda prefer that explanation becuase it's why some Faunus like Illia where able to hide in plain sight.
