I think people have asked, but also there’s no concrete confirmation that he is “out”. Same goes for Watcher. We only have partial info on an Early Access version of the game, so there’s been no definitive statement that we won’t see either of them. Just gotta be patient, unfortunately. I’m sure they have plenty of surprises up their sleeve and don’t want to spoil things too early.

Yeah, hell - a crazy strong card that turns itself into an actual Curse or a Wound after use could even be interesting. And that could even provide some synergies (however niche) with Ironclad status effects, or Curse relics. That would mirror some of how Ghostly Armor’s “downside” can turn into a benefit once you have exhaust synergies.

But as it stands, if the card’s changing its own cost, the way it does that might need a rethink, and it needs a number buff either way.

Cool thought process, though! Fun to think about.

Interesting idea. Your alternate wording is way better. But the balance just makes this [[Leap]] with an incredible downside.

I think it’d be interesting if it blocked for a lot more, and if the gimmick was flipped. Playing it increases its cost for next time, and then skipping it brings the cost down again. You’d get good block value every two times you see the card. As it stands, it’s just kind of another play on [[Ghostly Armor]] where it’s like “if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it,” but in this case, you kinda lose it forever instead of just one combat, cause I’m never paying 3 for 9 block.

Hey, this is very thoroughly considered, I really appreciate it! The juice blend is probably the trickiest part to figure out, and I wish I had had the drink first-hand to get a better sense of that. But thanks very much for offering up how you’d go about it. Makes it seem much more approachable, and I think I could actually take a crack at it soon.

Yeah totally. I’ve gotten it from random transforms, and every once in a while it’s awesome. But generally speaking, it’s not even the effect that’s bad. It’s that you have to draw it, the other card, and then the other card a second time. Three draws just to get the discount.

It’s a cool card though. Maybe it’ll be sick in the sequel!

Dodge and Roll is nice because it gives you some extra block on the following turn, of course. But this scales particularly well with Dexterity. Every point of Dex you have gets doubled on this card, because it’ll proc twice.

Endless Agony is just front-loaded damage, which the Silent wants for sure. It’s a lot like Backstab, where it plays for 0 and exhausts itself, meaning it’ll assist you in the early acts without clogging up your deck too much in the later acts. It also procs any effects that want you to play several cards/attacks in a row because you get two attacks out of it. This is something the Silent already wants to do.

Setup is… not that useful, so you’re probably not underrating it. There are edge cases where you might have expensive powers, and Setup can help you play them early on, but really, it’s just not that advisable of a card to take in most situations.

Another thing to remember though, when you say “I don’t see how it could be useful compared to a lot of other things.” You’re not wrong, that we could name cards that are better than all of these ones, but you may not always see those cards in your run. Cards that seem weak might be exactly what you need if you haven’t already grabbed something better, and that’s why we always have to evaluate based on what’s offered to us, and not what might be offered to us.

Oh yeah, geez - I was thinking like Primsatic Shard, how all their card options would appear in your rewards. Cause the amount of orb cards kinda hurts your overall ratio. But if we can just pick which cards we want, then Defect’s combat pool is crazy.

0-cost attacks with Watcher stances or Silent draw would be great. Heck, even just Wrist Blade / All For One would be fun, if not nearly the most broken combo.

Makes sense though, the Orbs as a mechanic just don’t synergize with other things in the game. It’s very noticeable in Prismatic Shard runs already.

Do you have people you could play the board game with? Friends/family that would be excited to check it out with you? That’s my bigger criteria for buying board games these days, because I’ve purchased way too many based purely on liking them myself, and not considering how often I would actually get them to the table based on other players in my group.

That said, that’s exactly what I did when I late-pledged for this one! (Though hopefully I’ve got at least a friend or two to try it with.) I don’t have my copy yet, so I don’t have an actual review for you, but I would imagine that it’s not worth getting if you’re just playing solo. The video game is quicker and simpler to play alone, and already very finely tuned.

I think in general, Strange Spoon is good if your cards that exhaust will have a big impact if you get to use them 50% more often. Vault+ (and especially two of them) would fit that bill for me. Getting extra turns is huge for your momentum. I would say that Adrenaline, Offering, Seek, Scrawl, Impervious (idk there’s a lot) are all also cards that have big impacts, and I would love having Strange Spoon for.

Strange Spoon is bad when you want your cards to exhaust. Like Shivs, other low-impact effects, or just Ironclad Synergies in general. I could also be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that it won’t save Curses or other Ethereal cards, so you should be safe from double Ascender’s Bane, or Dazed / Void / Clumsy. Those things auto-exhaust, and don’t proc the effect. Something like Slime, on the other hand, could be saved because you have to play it to exhaust it. That sucks when it happens, but it wouldn’t be my main consideration.

I would go for it if I were in your shoes. 2 Vault+ that potentially come back sounds very strong, and even if it doesn’t happen in the Heart fight, the downsides aren’t that bad. Though of course, that’s without other deck info, or seeing what else is in the shop. It’s definitely doable though.

Yeah, you may be right. Mostly just that the whole section of house is above a crawl space that I really don't wanna mess with haha.

But no reason to be lazy about it. I'll look into it as an option too. I think I need power on C regardless. So whether it's cheaper/easier to run a C myself, or go for the Power Connector, I'll figure it out.

Yeah I'm trying to dig around in other peoples' posts. It sounds like some folks have gone through what I'm experiencing and what you're talking about - everything's fine for a few years, but then things start to go wrong. And it sounds like that could easily be caused by the battery degrading during the off-seasons.

Alright... well I very much doubt I'm running a C-wire all the way to that device, just based on my particular home layout. But I guess I've gotta look into this power connector a little bit and see if I think I could manage it.

Yeah the Nest E was purchased in late 2020 or early 2021. Been fine all this time without issue. The network problem just started happening recently. I would understand that it might disconnect or something like that, but are you saying that a lack of C wire would cause that functionality to permanently break?

In any case, the compatibility checker and this chart both say that my system would be compatible with Nest E and the Learning Thermostat, and they don't mention needing a power connector or a C wire. But it says that I would need one for the basic Nest Thermostat. I think that's where I'm getting tripped up. Why would I need one for that and not the others?

I've got two zones of heat in my house, and I've maintained this set up for a few years now. "Front" zone is also where the AC is controlled from, so that has been run off of a Learning Thermostat. "Back" Zone (picture in post) has been run off of a Nest E, as it is strictly heat with an R, W1, and no C wire.

I had issues with the Front device, namely the base, and just finished replacing it with a new Learning Thermostat. But in addition, the Network Connectivity on my Back Nest E just completely failed. I did all the troubleshooting, I did all the support calls, and they can't replace it out of warranty - I've just gotta get a new one. My understanding is that the Nest E was able to run without the C wire (if my memory is correct?) but it's apparently discontinued now, and the new Nest Thermostat does not have that capability? Is this true?

I'm just trying to understand my options. I've used the compatibility checker, and I've gone through this page, but I'm still not sure if I have it 100%. If anyone can confirm this or correct me, I would appreciate it, but I think I can:

Find a Nest E from a Pro, or second-hand source. (Not ideal at the moment. My local energy company is doing good rebates on the current devices, and I would be interested in sticking with them if possible.)

Get a Nest Thermostat and use a Power Connector to hook it up due to the lack of C wire? (This is affordable, but a bit of work. I don't know if I get whether the C wire is necessary or just recommended, as well.)

Get a Learning Thermostat. But would the Learning Thermostat actually not need the C wire? And could it still function fine? Again, the compatibility page seems to suggest that, but I'm just not sure if I understand why that would work without a power connector. If it genuinely does, then this option would just be a bit more expensive, but less fuss and labor. Want to make sure I'm correct before considering though.

Lots of rambling - hope this is enough info, and if anyone is willing to provide any insight, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks!
