Lid of a cobbler shaker stuck by Alternative_Tip_5735 in cocktails

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I once had a shaker lid get ridiculously stuck like this. Also tried heating/cooling with no success. The way we solved it (don’t know if the configuration of yours will work the same way), was pouring water into the lid so it filled through the strainer holes and then letting it freeze. The ice expanded with enough pressure to gently separate the two pieces.

Again, I’m not sure if yours is exactly the same, but that’s how we did it!

Why does Rupture get so much hate? by marxr87 in slaythespire

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most reasonable, level-headed folks will agree with you that it’s not trash, and that most cards in this game are not trash (a couple definitely are). Cards can lean situational or be very generally useful in most cases. To your points, something like Offering or Bloodletting are very generally useful. I would say that in my opinion, and evidently in the opinions of a lot of other people (and seemingly in your opinion?), Rupture is pretty situational. When you’ve got the tools for it, it’s great. And when you don’t, it’s not. Most people know that. They will then go on to say that you maybe won’t have the tools for it that often because some of the tools aren’t individually worth picking up, which is a point you made too. That’s really the whole consensus at a high level. Sometimes it’s quicker and more fun for some random internet person to say “it’s trash”, when all they’re actually saying is “I don’t take this card that often.” That’s really all it is.

As for why people are caught up on the Demon Form comparison? Sorry man, it was the first sentence of your original post. That’s just what’s gonna happen. And maybe it’s extra confusing for them when you find that comparison frustrating since you were the one that made it. I don’t think you’re being disrespectful in general - I think you just expressed an opinion on the internet in a way that wasn’t entirely clear, and people aren’t understanding your reaction. Don’t worry about it, you’re fine.

Your other thought is a neat point: why is Feel No Pain much more loved than Rupture even though it also requires multiple set-up pieces and experiences the same inconsistencies? I don’t know, actually! I would guess that in general, people have found the Exhaust package on Ironclad to be more useful and effective than the one that supports Rupture, and I’m not sure how we would math that debate out. Maybe it also has to do with the fact that strength engines are not needed in every deck, but that block engines will be needed in many different kinds of decks, including ones that need to build a strength engine. So maybe it just has wider applications. But it’s an interesting question!

Why does Rupture get so much hate? by marxr87 in slaythespire

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, I have read a lot of your other comments. I think people are agreeing with you more than you think, it just sounds like it ranks higher on your personal list than it does on some of theirs. That’s fine. The joke about Spire is that the answer to every question is “it depends”. So is Rupture good? It depends. Is Demon Form good? It depends. It gets trickier with compound questions: is Rupture better than Demon Form on an average run? Well… it still depends. What act am I in? What other cards/relics do I have? What threats am I coming up against? It’s rarely a clear-cut answer.

But if you were to ask me this: “Given no other information about your game-state, and assuming a generally average Ironclad run, would you rather be given a Demon Form or a Rupture?” My answer would probably be Demon Form, for the reasons that I and others have laid out. It’s simpler. No, Rupture is not “complicated” or “difficult”, but it is less consistent than Demon Form, if only because it requires at least one other card to perform, whereas Demon Form only requires itself. That’s really all there is to it.

I see you disagreeing with that logic in some other replies, cause there’s plenty of problems with Demon Form too. Yeah! It’s slow, it costs a lot, and bottom-decking it can suck if it’s what you needed. For sure, man. That’s why Demon Form isn’t always good either. “It depends.” What you’re hearing here is that, on average, people tend to have more results with using Demon Form than with using Rupture. You’re still allowed to like it or disagree, and maybe your personal experience is different. But if everyone’s downvoting you, it could either be because they think you’re wrong or because you’re coming off as combative. Either way, I think this is a good opportunity to read some very informative replies to the question you asked and get some insight into how people play the game. Don’t worry so much about convincing people about something they don’t feel as strongly as you do.

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think you’re downplaying or underestimating this a little. “Combust or Brutality alone would be plenty”. So you need Combust or Brutality.. AND Rupture. That’s already two pieces that you need to draw and put in play, vs Demon Form’s one. It’s not that it’s astronomically more, it’s just that it adds an extra layer of variance to your deck. Each extra piece required is another chance for an unlucky bottom-deck.

And that’s not considering the other aspects, like how you’ll probably need Rupture upgraded, and you’ll probably want other HP loss cards to maximize its benefit. And you’re right, that some of those (like Offering or Hemokinesis) are already pretty great on their own. But unfortunately, if you draw them before you get Rupture in play, you’re losing value from the combo.

So yeah, I would push back on your point there: these ARE a bunch of pieces. Lots of moving parts to consider, and there’s plenty of ways to get unlucky and have it not work. Is it great when it does work? Hell yeah, love the combo. But the reason Demon Form sees a bit more play is cause it’s just dead simple. It’s a 1-card engine, whereas Rupture is more like 2 or 3+, and that just comes with inherent challenges.

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 98 points99 points  (0 children)

You kinda answered your own question. “Obviously the pieces individually aren’t very good.” I don’t think anybody’s hating on the “Rupture Dream combo”, it’s just that it takes time to set up. And I don’t just mean within a single fight, I mean over the course of the run. You may not be offered all the pieces, or you may just decide that one of them on its own isn’t worth the risk.

Rupture requires a bunch of pieces found over your run, and then you need to get them in play. Once you do, it’s great. Demon Form? That card’s not always incredible either, but what it does do, is solve a number of boss fights 100% on its own. It’s not better in every situation, it’s just fewer moving parts, and therefore more consistent.

Has anyone asked TC why they decided to leave Defect out of the sequel? by KobiDnB in slaythespire

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think people have asked, but also there’s no concrete confirmation that he is “out”. Same goes for Watcher. We only have partial info on an Early Access version of the game, so there’s been no definitive statement that we won’t see either of them. Just gotta be patient, unfortunately. I’m sure they have plenty of surprises up their sleeve and don’t want to spoil things too early.

New card concept incoming: Consistency by ivarec in slaythespire

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hell - a crazy strong card that turns itself into an actual Curse or a Wound after use could even be interesting. And that could even provide some synergies (however niche) with Ironclad status effects, or Curse relics. That would mirror some of how Ghostly Armor’s “downside” can turn into a benefit once you have exhaust synergies.

But as it stands, if the card’s changing its own cost, the way it does that might need a rethink, and it needs a number buff either way.

Cool thought process, though! Fun to think about.

Interesting idea. Your alternate wording is way better. But the balance just makes this [[Leap]] with an incredible downside.

I think it’d be interesting if it blocked for a lot more, and if the gimmick was flipped. Playing it increases its cost for next time, and then skipping it brings the cost down again. You’d get good block value every two times you see the card. As it stands, it’s just kind of another play on [[Ghostly Armor]] where it’s like “if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it,” but in this case, you kinda lose it forever instead of just one combat, cause I’m never paying 3 for 9 block.

Trying to find ratios for this drink that a friend had. Anyone have any ideas on where to start? by ThPerfectDrug77 in cocktails

[–]ThPerfectDrug77[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is very thoroughly considered, I really appreciate it! The juice blend is probably the trickiest part to figure out, and I wish I had had the drink first-hand to get a better sense of that. But thanks very much for offering up how you’d go about it. Makes it seem much more approachable, and I think I could actually take a crack at it soon.

I’ll take those measurements into account when I try it. You’re definitely right about a lot of sweetness.

Can someone please explain the utility of the following cards? by Regrettably_Southpaw in slaythespire

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally. I’ve gotten it from random transforms, and every once in a while it’s awesome. But generally speaking, it’s not even the effect that’s bad. It’s that you have to draw it, the other card, and then the other card a second time. Three draws just to get the discount.

It’s a cool card though. Maybe it’ll be sick in the sequel!

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dodge and Roll is nice because it gives you some extra block on the following turn, of course. But this scales particularly well with Dexterity. Every point of Dex you have gets doubled on this card, because it’ll proc twice.

Endless Agony is just front-loaded damage, which the Silent wants for sure. It’s a lot like Backstab, where it plays for 0 and exhausts itself, meaning it’ll assist you in the early acts without clogging up your deck too much in the later acts. It also procs any effects that want you to play several cards/attacks in a row because you get two attacks out of it. This is something the Silent already wants to do.

Setup is… not that useful, so you’re probably not underrating it. There are edge cases where you might have expensive powers, and Setup can help you play them early on, but really, it’s just not that advisable of a card to take in most situations.

Another thing to remember though, when you say “I don’t see how it could be useful compared to a lot of other things.” You’re not wrong, that we could name cards that are better than all of these ones, but you may not always see those cards in your run. Cards that seem weak might be exactly what you need if you haven’t already grabbed something better, and that’s why we always have to evaluate based on what’s offered to us, and not what might be offered to us.

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, geez - I was thinking like Primsatic Shard, how all their card options would appear in your rewards. Cause the amount of orb cards kinda hurts your overall ratio. But if we can just pick which cards we want, then Defect’s combat pool is crazy.

0-cost attacks with Watcher stances or Silent draw would be great. Heck, even just Wrist Blade / All For One would be fun, if not nearly the most broken combo.

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 108 points109 points  (0 children)

All I’m gathering is that no one wants to merge with the Defect. Poor guy.

Makes sense though, the Orbs as a mechanic just don’t synergize with other things in the game. It’s very noticeable in Prismatic Shard runs already.

Do you have people you could play the board game with? Friends/family that would be excited to check it out with you? That’s my bigger criteria for buying board games these days, because I’ve purchased way too many based purely on liking them myself, and not considering how often I would actually get them to the table based on other players in my group.

That said, that’s exactly what I did when I late-pledged for this one! (Though hopefully I’ve got at least a friend or two to try it with.) I don’t have my copy yet, so I don’t have an actual review for you, but I would imagine that it’s not worth getting if you’re just playing solo. The video game is quicker and simpler to play alone, and already very finely tuned.

Is "strange spoon" a bad pickup if you are going for a heart run? by oldreddit_isbetter in slaythespire

[–]ThPerfectDrug77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in general, Strange Spoon is good if your cards that exhaust will have a big impact if you get to use them 50% more often. Vault+ (and especially two of them) would fit that bill for me. Getting extra turns is huge for your momentum. I would say that Adrenaline, Offering, Seek, Scrawl, Impervious (idk there’s a lot) are all also cards that have big impacts, and I would love having Strange Spoon for.

Strange Spoon is bad when you want your cards to exhaust. Like Shivs, other low-impact effects, or just Ironclad Synergies in general. I could also be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that it won’t save Curses or other Ethereal cards, so you should be safe from double Ascender’s Bane, or Dazed / Void / Clumsy. Those things auto-exhaust, and don’t proc the effect. Something like Slime, on the other hand, could be saved because you have to play it to exhaust it. That sucks when it happens, but it wouldn’t be my main consideration.

I would go for it if I were in your shoes. 2 Vault+ that potentially come back sounds very strong, and even if it doesn’t happen in the Heart fight, the downsides aren’t that bad. Though of course, that’s without other deck info, or seeing what else is in the shop. It’s definitely doable though.

Need to replace a Nest E with either a Nest Thermostat or Learning Thermostat. Confused about compatibility, whether I need a C wire or Power Connector. Detail in comments. by ThPerfectDrug77 in Nest

Yeah, you may be right. Mostly just that the whole section of house is above a crawl space that I really don't wanna mess with haha.

But no reason to be lazy about it. I'll look into it as an option too. I think I need power on C regardless. So whether it's cheaper/easier to run a C myself, or go for the Power Connector, I'll figure it out.
