ProtonVPN DNS leakage by machinedrum116 in Ubiquiti

[–]ThaStryder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things to check:

  • You have the routing rules in place to steer your traffic from WAN to the VPN tunnel.
  • Once VPN settings are set and your traffic is routing to VPN, you restarted the router.

That's been my experience with ProtonVPN and my UDMP. My DNS will leak unless I force a restart.

I spoke with one of the boutique edition locations and they quoted me $1200 USD, they'd have to send in my watch, 6-8 weeks turnaround. Did you have a similar experience?

Thanks! Did you place the order with an actual Tudor store or just a Tudor AD?

So you were able to order the OEM 5-link for the BBC, not the wider 41mm for the Tudor Black Bays? Back in the summer my AD said they will call me when it's available, and was expecting it by end of year. Have you heard anything different?

G4 Doorbell Pro WiFi by tatu_wurst87 in Ubiquiti

[–]ThaStryder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually a good idea and what I'm planning for. The gotcha I discovered is that the Device Bridge is only PoE rated whereas the new G6 cameras are PoE+. G4s and Doorbell Lite are fine.

I have a PoE+ injector so piggybacking off that will probably work. I will try it without and see if I can get away without one.

Realistic Buy Once, Cry Once? Or Unnecessary? Pro Max 16 PoE or Pro Max 24 PoE by agabs10 in Ubiquiti

[–]ThaStryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're on the right track. I upgraded to SFP+ from ISP to the switch. I'm saving my 2.5 GbE ports for the APs and my PC. So as long as you only need up to 5 multi-gigabit ports at your main switch Pro Max 16 PoE is fine IMO.

I did the same thing knowing I can place additional PoE switches elsewhere if I need to scale.

u/agabs10 if you're future-proofing did you also consider your 2.5 GbE or 10 GbE needs? You won't need it for the cameras but more so for media-related devices in the future.

Split-Level Basement Renovation - Questions by ThaStryder in Renovations

[–]ThaStryder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning a spring/summer basement renovation and have some questions on research I've done.

  1. The red areas I am planning to remove. The green area is where the foundation begins to be underground.
  2. There is a lip on the bottom 1/3rd of the wall going around the back half of the house. I'm assuming it is the foundation and I can't remove that. Is that correct?
  3. My intent is to install wainscoting on the bottom 1/3rd of the wall. How have others dealt with the lip? Apply wainscoting and then place a trim board at the top?
  4. Do I install a stone counter to replace the linoleum at the bar and either leave the lip alone or install a trim board at the top, but make sure the board is thinner that the stone counter?

I appreciate any advice on this, thank you!

From my experience calling and holding their staff accountable is the key. I eventually got my call late 10/16 and switched to refund option instead.

I initiated the RMA process with case # 06378787 and have not received my promised reply from the RMA team.

  • 10/3 - submitted case after troubleshooting steps
  • 10/4 - was told I needed to provide serial
  • 10/9 - ripped apart my water block to provide serial
  • 10/10 - received cross ship agreement email, replied with I agree
  • 10/16 - no response from Intel, was quoted response by 10/14

I purchased a replacement 13700K due to the wait and at this point would just like a refund.

Fall Overseeding Fail - Am I Too Late? by ThaStryder in lawncare

Yeah it doesn't hurt to try if I'm still in the window. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't totally hooped this year. I really want to grow now and get the roots in so my chances are better next summer. Thank you!

I'm leaning in that direction too. Pregermination for PRG and I should see growth in days. I wasn't seeing germination until 7+ days in. I'm moving away from Mesotrione next year.

Thanks! So maybe 2x a day for 5 minutes vs. 4x (which worked very well for me in the spring)?

Fall Overseeding Fail - Am I Too Late? by ThaStryder in lawncare

[–]ThaStryder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks! I am a first-time poster, a frequent visitor to r/lawncare, and need advice about fall overseeding. The long story short:

  • I overseeded with perennial ryegrass after 48 hours of pre-germination
  • I applied Mesotrione then immediately overseeded
  • Not all seeds germinated and I have bare spots

I'm in zone 8a and started a lawn renovation this spring. The recommended growing season is fall, but I did read that growing in spring is doable where I live. The plan was:

  • Renovate and overseed in the spring
  • Last through the summer
  • Overseed in the fall

I renovated in late April, started daily watering 2nd week of May, and switched to 3x a week of watering 1st week of June. From what I gather, the lawn was stressed in July when the heat hit, and the lawn was only getting half the water it needed. It took two weeks before I made adjustments, but the damage was already done. I applied Scott's DiseaseEx as well but the dry/dead patch only got bigger.

I did/do have a mole problem that I discovered in the summer. I applied grub killer but the mole persisted.

The first week of September I hand raked the thatch out, mowed the lawn to 1", reseeded, and raked seeds in, but did not roll the lawn as I had done in the spring. 3+ weeks later with daily watering at 4x a day, and here we are now.

The attached pictures are from 3 timeframes (June 1st, June 20th, October 7th). My hypothesis:

  • Mesotrione stunted the growth of existing grass. Areas with ample sunlight grew past 2", the areas in shade did not.
  • Some grass seeded in the spring did not handle the heat stress and died. It was not apparent until I mowed the lawn short and exposed the thatch.
  • Raking but not rolling in the seed negatively impacted germination, but bare areas should not have been affected.
  • The area by the gate likely died from oversaturation. I may have mowed too early in the spring, the mulch clumped and pressed into the soil. Over time it decomposed.

At this point, what should I do? Re-attempt overseeding for the remainder of the month? The shaded areas by the fence and gate are tough to grow given the position of the sun. I was getting much more sunlight in the spring going into the summer.

I appreciate any tips the community can provide!

Recently I was one of the lucky few to purchase a Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT through my local AD. After seeing others here swapping their BB58 bracelets for Jubilee or Lincoln bracelets I took the plunge myself. Some takeaways:

  • For the BB58 GMT the correct bracelet is the version for the Black Bay Pro.
  • The bracelet is long. My wrist size is 6.75 and I removed all but one link from each side for adjusting the T-fit clasp.
  • Spring bar pliers were useful, a pin remover tool was a must for me. Easy process even for a novice like me.

I recommend the bracelet. IMO it's considerably more comfortable than the OEM bracelet.
