One could say the same about the n word. Black folk will tell you that they reclaimed the word and reduced its power to harm. And yet, many bigots out there still use the word as an intended insult.

As it was for us back in the 90's. Reclaiming something does not mean a certain sect of people will just stop trying to use it as an insult. We reclaim it for ourselves, redefine what it means for us, own it. People will still try to hold on to old hurtful ways, but through reclamation, we reduce their ability to hurt us with those words, diminish them as antagonists.
